  1. Well Taggart I agree with David You probably didn't realize with your modified picture of Lt.Gen Grant, you could be opening some very deep old wounds... Also in here some posters/visitors are direct descendants of the ACW fighting Men....... North and South,...... Jokes are meant to be funny/humorous... - So you modified Picture can be taken as being insensitive to some people North and South....- n perhaps even some outside of the United States....... Next time...Try Lego's when you bored, n post a pic of what you built ....... Have a Good Day,,,,,
  2. From a Rock Paper Shotgun interview................ By Tim Stone on May 1st, 2015 at 1:00 pm........ Nick: We are experimenting on a new enhanced game engine version for a next title that will simulate The Battle of Antietam. This engine will make the next game visually superior to Ultimate General: Gettysburg and will use a sandbox system in which you can play the battle from the start to the end, having full control of the army. It’s too early to provide a release date and also we haven’t yet decided if this new title will be sold separately or as DLC.......... https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/05/01/the-flare-path-may-day-mayday/
  3. {V 1.6 - Rev. 11185} ANV // Custom // Determined. I am sure you are aware of this AI(AoP)Brigades routing thru Player's Brigade: 13:48- 1353: Iron Brigade 14:17-14:21: Paul's Brigade 14:29: Cutler http://imgur.com/a/eQ1f7
  4. Remember this is in all good fun,,,I love a challenge when given, n accepted........... Well Showcase, Koro has thrown down the gauntlet, Its is now up to you to pick that Gauntlet up, n accepting that challenge! Perhaps we shall see then............With whom really has the 2 marbles rolling around. I'm at the betting window, just like at the horse track. You are doing a lot of Barn Barking in your thread. Just like Jockey's/Trainers sometimes do in the Stable's.... But when Parade to Post is called..... they make up 'dime store excuses' as to why there horse is scratched from the race....... In this case take up the Challenge/Fight him on the battlefield...Is your Generalship up to the task? You do have the choice in Army n Battlefield ..... Hopefully you will meet the Challenge. Don't up and just disappear.... I would also like Koro to video this n play 2 out of 3... 100$ Bucks is on Koro to beat you by 2 lengths...... Cheers,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  5. -Confederates Capture Oak Hill- July 1st // 12:45 General the Whole Right Flank is Collapsing! A.A.R. // AoP // Determined I // XI Corps' // Cavalry Corps-1st. Div. Buford Losses: Union- 7624 // ANV- 6598 http://imgur.com/a/a1bgU ======================= This was another Hard Fight by the AI+++ -Buford's skirmishers put up a stubborn Fight while holding Seminary! -The AI was coordinated with there concentrated attacks from the North n NE. - It was a desperate affair for me just to hold my Battle Line in the North. -------------- 12:50- The ANV to the North on Oak Hill has started there march south in Force, I need to concentrate and hopefully, MGen O.O.Howard Divisions would be arriving sooner than later. 13:10- The XI Corps of Howard is coming in from the South. Two Brigades of Hill's division is marching East on Seminary Ridge. With Lane's Brigade approaching from the SW. Buford He must Hold Seminary! If Buford is driven Back they will have the 1 Corps Division in a Vice n will be firing into them from the front n Rear! We will be in a Hell of a Fix! Buford Must Hold. I Dispatched Biddle's Brigade to Support! Relay to Buford that General Howard is on the way from the South to Support. 13:20- Hill's Division has smashed into our forward battle Line on Oak Ridge. They have overrun the Brigades of Baxter/Bucks. 13:36- The 1st. Corps Division is in a desperate fight. All Brigades/Batteries to Fall Back. We mus Form a Battle line from Seminary Ridge East of the Collage! 13:45-14:15- The ANV has stopped there advance they seem to be forming up in Battle line Formation North of our line. They are waiting for support, before recommencing there Drive forward? Howard has Sent a Division to our far right of the Collage on the Double Quick. Also two of His Batteries on the Far right were dispatched. One Brigade of the XI is left on Southern Seminary to Support Buford. 14:30-14:45- Hill's Brigades are attacking in Battle line, AoP is taking heavy losses. the ANV has hit us hard in the Center, Baxter/Bucks have been driven back There Brigades have suffered 50% losses! Howard's Brigades were ordered to fill the Gap! Ames Brigade was ordered to the far right. -Rode's has dispatched the rest of his division South from Oak Hill, General Ewell's 1st. Division is approaching from the NE. 15:00- 15:50- General Ewell's has driven into our Right in force. The far RIGHT of our line is Buckling n Collapsing! Howard's Brigades are in a Rout, Brigade Commanders have lost all control, the Center is wavering n Falling back! Biddle/Iron Brigades on the Left Near Seminary are holding but Have taken Heavy losses. ---------------- Summary: -I had a hell of a Job just trying to reform n Hold my Broken Right(fear is contagious an spreads like a wild fire)). They AI would attack with(Ewell's Stalwart's 1st Brigade) from the far right, than have Hill's Brigade's Hit my center, Fall Back, reform, n drive into my line again.....+++ --The picture is the Black Hats , moving forward, unfurling flags, while engaging the enemy in a fire fight......
  6. Well Mr. Mercanto, I agree with your Feedback/Assessment with the above post. The Artillery being to powerful with Shot at Range /// With Cutler in cover, + an added Advantage stationed on Higher Ground. -Cover is a double edged sword. -Now with the effectiveness of cover, and how I understand it n should mirror a fire fight just like IRL... This will effect the Soldiers 'Line Of Sight', with incoming, and outgoing Musket Fire. Cutler is in heavy cover 78%, This will limit his LOS to Davis. -Thereby his effective fire(Cutler) is limited with not being able to have a direct fire into/at Davis. -The enemy 'Davis' also has decreased LOS to Cutler(Lower n in the open, an added disadvantage), giving a diminished effective fire at/into Cutler. - Now With Cutler having the Higher Ground, in good 'cover his Brigade will have an advantage in Kills/Hits. -As Distance increases from Hill,(Higher Ground) LOS will increase for Cutler. Whereas Davis will have a Decrease in his hit/kill rate in rounds fired...imo -With No Screen Shot to give a more accurate relative assessment, (i.e Strength/Placement-Distance to Combatants.) Throwing guesstimate numbers in the air, I would say in that situation Cutler should of had the advantage in kills... ~(2 - 1)...Cutler 36 Kills // Davis ~15-18 kills...... ................. But with a game...n trying to mirror what happen's in a Real Life Battles can be a challenge, n next to impossible in certain situations.... I will add this is a Great Game....regardless... ....................
  7. Mercanto.,, So if I understand you correctly the AI(ANV) is over Powered? Let me know the Map//Setting, you used for your Fight..... I want to play this out with both sides n take ScrnShots of the Battle, with reports. The brigade on the higher Ground with cover usually are the winners in a Gun fight weather AI or Player,,from what I seen/played given the Brigade rating */**/***...... n Numbers involved. If I give up the higher ground(AoP) it is usually I am also getting Hammered with Artillery, while in a Gun Fight...But than again that's me n there are a lot of different circumstances with this(Settings/Maps) I always play Determined against the AI,,so the AI's(ANV) Offensive/Defensive strength is tough,,, which I like..sometimes I can win, Usually it's a Draw/Defeat on bigger maps where the AI is Defending with good Arty support... But what I like could be skewed....towards being unbalanced with damage modifiers as you alluded to.... Did A Battle with both sides Arriving At Gettysburg ANV // AoP // Determined Now with different settings the game allots different strengths / weakness for the Player/AI I believe..... So this is why I play with Determined Only. -But this is my take only...Also my views on Arty is a few Posts above...
  8. -Unions Left Flank at Stake- July 2nd. // 15:00 Hold this Ridge at all Cost! A.A.R. // AoP // Determined - II / III Corp's- http://imgur.com/a/3uSK7 ============= Causalities Reflect the Resolve of Both Armies. AoP- 10,418 // ANV- 10,623 ========== Great Fight by the AI!+++ This Battle was a a desperate Affair. I did have my hands full. My Artillery Batteries on my right, and LRT played a pivotal Role with this being a Draw.+++ The ANV Divisions showed great strength of will, trying to push the AoP off of Cemetery Ridge, and Little Round Top! I had no choice I didn't even try to gain Big Round Top. I wanted to delay the First Corp's Division as Long as possible before they could drive into me from the left with there Brigade's. There Artillery was accurate, and murderous throughout the whole line. They were positioned back n well supported!+++ ---- 15:45- General We Need Fitzhugh's Reserve Batteries on the far right. Kershaw/Posey/Mahoney's Brigades are moving up in force! 16:54- General The Rebel's Have mounted a major Push up thru Devil's Den in the Center.Four of our brigades were sent tumbling Back in a rout. -** Harrow's Brigade is in a Desperate Fight with Wilcox n Semmes Brigades,Wofford's Brigade of ~1600 is right behind Wilcox, there is heavy losses. -Longstreet's Brigades Have Gained BRT. Sickles Division is in a Struggle on the Far Left, Burling's Brigade Has been driven Back... 16:55- General, BarksDale is coming thru the Wheat Field he is supported on his right with Perry's Brigade. Quickly YOU must Stop Barksdale n Perry's advance before he reaches Wilcox n Semmes. Shift Hall n Graham Brigade's to their 'Left to meet His forward advance. My God Sir! Madness I say, Madness.''Men Loading firing/screaming wildly in the Melee! Whole Brigades intermingled. The smoke of the weapons, the Din of battle is unbelievable. Men obsessed with Grabbing there fallin colors, being clubbed with muskets, bayoneted, Men being shot, spinning from the impact like tops, n falling never to rise again. 17:20-18:26- General There is a lull in the battle, there is sporadic Battery fire on the right with Light Musket engagements on the far left. We are regrouping/reorganizing all Brigades to move forward, and Forming a Battle line. The far right will hold with the Artillery in support. I fear there will be a new push to LRT from the far Left thru Devil's Den n from Big Round top. 19:00-19:44- General Sykes has pulled his Brigades/Batteries back, n reformed in the area of LRT. The ANV's 1st. Corps Brigades did n try n make a fight but at this time. Both armies are pretty well played out. Nothing Gained for the ANV, but the blood letting, n losses were heavy for both Combatants. ============================================= About the Picture with this AAR: With leveled bayonets and at maximum forward speed, 262 Minnesotans attack Wilcox's 1,600 Alabamians on July 2, 1863, at Gettysburg. Painting by Don Troiani. ----------------- ** Note---- The First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment(Maj. William J. Colvill, Jr. 'Commanding)belonged to the -- II Corp's> 2nd. Division> 1st. Brigade of ** BGen William Harrow. At a pivotal moment in the 1863 struggle at Gettysburg, Major General Winfield Scott Hancock, commander of II Corps, ordered the First Minnesota to charge into a situation where it would be outnumbered by at least 5 to 1. The general's purpose was to buy minutes of delay with human lives, and one survivor spoke afterward that he expected the advance to result in "death or wounds to [every single one of the attackers.] The regiment fully and instantly obeyed the order, suffering at least 82% casualties among those making the attack; this action contributed significantly to the preservation of a key Union defensive position on the heights of Cemetery Ridge. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Minnesota_Volunteer_Infantry The regiment is best known for the dramatic charge at the battle of Gettysburg. On the evening of July 2, 1863 the regiment attacked Wilcox's Alabama Brigade as it was preparing for the final push to break the Union line. Confederate General Wilcox stated in his report, "This stronghold of the enemy, together with his batteries, were almost won, when still another line of infantry descended the slope in our front at a double-quick, to the support of their fleeing comrades and for the defense of the batteries." The line of infantry was the First Minnesota. They crossed over 200 yards of open ground and charged the Confederates in spite of five to one odds. The rebels recovered and in five minutes killed or wounded over 170 of the 300 plus men. The survivors did not panic but fell back to their original position and rallied around the remnant of the flag waiting for a counterattack that did not come. http://www.1stminnesota.net/
  9. Determined // ANV A good battle...... 10. Now I wanted to point this out. This I thought was Impressive for an AI to do. ANV Dispatched three brigades From Cemetery Ridge To Culp's Hill Area to Support: 10:27-Late in the Battle....The AI sensing they need to strengthen the ANV Right flank at Culp's, as I was putting pressure on it, Dispatches Three Brigades @~10:37.+++ My remaining Brigades to the SE of Cemetery Ridge, of the XII Corps were beat up/Played out n I could not capitalize in Attacking the ANV Two fairly Fresh Brigades Anchored on the Ridge.(Ramseur/Scales.)+++ http://imgur.com/a/cEOaw The AI handed me a defeat with heavy losses. ******************* ******************* David- What I remember, with playing as the AoP, artillery did perform in a more or less realistic way. Analyzing Artillery Performance for me now would be 'Backward-Looking. I have moved on. The developers know/are quite aware with feedback how they perform. What they do now is up to them. I enjoy the game n compensate/tactically plan how I am going to attack with emphasis on cover n Flanking movements, as they did IRL, - Concerning the Wooded areas: I don't know how heavily wooded it was, but being raised in the country in Eastern Canada. I know standing on a hill facing out, it can be fairly clear in seeing in the distance, over looking tree tops. Depending on Grade,Height etc. As an example, I remember behind the Farm, standing on a fairly wooded hill/area. I could see down into most of the meadow below in the distant 300 meters +. Looking over to another hill was easy. -I was raised with working horses. no tractor when I was a boy. Finding a clearing to see thru would be fairly easy, for the Batteries...imo again depending where they are placed. ******************
  11. - The Union Counter-Attacks From the Right - July 2nd/ 06:30 A Stubborn Defense: A.A.R. // AoP // Determined. - II // V // XII Corp's - http://imgur.com/a/WkWMw ======== This battle was a tough go for the 3 Corps' with the Divisions Involved. This is one of my favorites Custom Maps. I always Play the AoP here as it's a great battle, With the ANV on the high ground, with there Many Battery Battalions on Culps //Cemetery Hill's. The AI puts up a Coordinated staunch/aggressive defense especially for Culps --- Casualties were High for Both sides: AoP- 9612 // ANV- 9471 --- --The II Corps Divs', of MGen Hancock was ordered to Push the ANV off Cemetery Ridge. --The XII Corps Divs', of MGen Henry Slocum was ordered to move North n Take Benner's Hill. --The V Corps' Divs', of MGen George Sykes was given the task of pushing the Rebels off Culp's Hill. -------- ~07:15: II Corps Division first encountered Elements of the ANV Heth's Division, Lane's Brigade located on the Frey farm area. A heavy fire fight ensued with them falling back with heavy losses. But the brigades of Scales // Perrin were quick to move forward n hold us. ~08:00: We were than in possession of the VP. n was able to get our Brigades anchored, with the rest of the Brigades in Support. The Batteries were ordered to take up positions in the wooded ares east of the Spangler Farm to open a Cannonade on the ANV Brigade's in our front. These batteries were Supported by McDougall, Crosses', n the Irish Brigades. I will note that we were taking a fearful Cannonade from the Numerous Batteries on the Southern Side of Cemetery Hill. - While the battle raged on Cemetery Ridge- ~08:00-0834: The XII Corps Divisions were ordered to make haste to form up into a Battle Line S.E.of Benners ~08:45- Brigade Cmdr's were seen riding Back from General's Slocum Position at the Deodorf Farm. The Sound of a Low rolling rumble was coming from the west. We all knew that Rebel Cannons were handing out death freely. Shouts went out immediately to the Regimental Cmdr's Ready Arms.... Form UP You Men! ~08:49-The Order Comes Down the line FORWARD! ~09:00- We could see the Brigades in our front up on Benner's with the Batteries. ~09:09- A shout goes down the line Hurrah // Hurrah Elements of Sykes divisions are reported on our far left. ~09:30- The killing spreed starts in Earnest, the screams/Shouts Fire, Fire, CLOSE UP was heard. The Din of battle Grows with every step Forward! Kane's Brigade is driven Back in confusion with fearful losses, terrified like Old Scratch himself is chasing them breathing Fire! Lockwood/Ruger's Brigades Drives forward clashing with the enemy/Falling back, countering in a around the Lady Farm. ~10:00- A couple of Sykes Brigades are ordered to close up on our Left Flank, in Support going forward attacking Benners. The barking of Cannons from behind n in front is heard n seen. A semblance of Order seem's to have been restored within our Brigades, reforming our Battle line. MGen Slocum is seen riding down the line, Shouting Forward men Forward.... - Sykes Division are arriving on the Field, n moving to attack Culps. -09:09- Fishers, n McCandles's Brigades are ordered forward. -10:00- till 11:40 The Fighting for Culps is intense! The ANV is determined to keep Culps, and did! Charge, counter charge, Brigade after Brigade is driven back off Culp's, the cannonade continuous n dreadful. Formidable Battle Lines'/Groups are drawn in n around Culps/Benners/North of Cemetery Ridge, with great Artillery support, being Supported by the ANV(AI)+++ The V Corps is Driven Back Bloodied n Virtually Crippled. The XII corps Captures n holds Benners with heavy losses. -11:32-The Famed brigade of Colonel Strong Vincent is present with the 20th. Maine, Chamberlain trying to inspire. The Mexican Stand off At Benners..+++ _______________ Summery: This Battle was intense, and a lot of fun. The AI performance was clever&tactical with forming battle lines, reinforcing brigades// Charges with follow up attacks. As you can see the V Corps was pushed way back, in confusion with heavy losses, to the Bishop Farm n beyond(Day) 11:18 I ordered Hancock's II Corps Division North, to strike the ANV in the right Flank, the Cannonade was intense n relentless throughout the battle +++. 11:40-1149- After the ANV finished Pushing the V Corps back they immediately turned south while leaving ~3 brigades to guard any threat coming in from the east. n was forming a Battle Line to meet the II Corps threat with ~11 Batteries on Cemetery Hill. +++ I was trying to mount a counter attack to Culps but time ran out. ------------------
  12. Constructive n Pertinent feedback is always welcome, Threads Title states that. Weather they decide to use it is another matter. OK here is a look at the Unions Artillery in action. -Now within 1 minute, with two maybe three broadsides from 2-4 Batteries(12-24 Guns) as far as I can see, did in fact kill 30 men of Smiths Brigade. Now as you can see The brigades of Gordon's' n Smith's were only receiving Artillery fire, n with distance it was solid shot. In 24 minutes those 2 Brigades had 201 men killed. Gordon rolled onto the field with 1508 Muskets, n lost 157 Smith rolled South with 805 Muskets, n lost 41. At that point I quit to post here with my observations. So something is amiss here....imo http://imgur.com/a/jFISO#0
  13. David...Pls bear with me here...this is a bit long winded... Concerning Overly powerful Artillery.. I have been thinking on this for a while. Specifically the Unions' Batteries' and there lack of being vulnerable to battery counter fire, and with there ability to inflict high Damage from distance. I like you post above, With Historical examples. With Correcting the high shot to kill ratio seems sound. Your analogy, n how to go about obtaining a comprehensible fix was concise/thoughtful. ---As you mentioned: -Unsupported artillery were easily destroyed with Skirmishers. -Even Brigades would quickly silence them when the opportunity arose. (This is well done with the AI in game(Skirmishers/Brigades.)+++ --- As with my last post the Union's Batteries were pounding me from afar with shot. i.e Seeley/Arnold/Buckley/Clark. South, in the Vicinity of the Snyder farm. They had an extremely high shot to kill ratio..imo. Those batteries were/had to be close to a 1000+ meters away http://i.imgur.com/ksSmYZx.png Now with my supported artillery in the same game had a big advantage with me firing down, n into massed brigades the first half, is a different story. It can be argued that Wyall's/Wallace/Graham/Reilly/Hurt's batteries did in fact have a bit higher that average kill ratio. But than again in a game...... http://i.imgur.com/2ndIB4t.png The inability to detach skirmishers, n with the way the Developers have now kept the Artillery behind the front Lines it is damn hard to get at them.+++ I do use the Skirmishers to guard Batteries, so I can cause a delay action when a brigade approaches for said batteries to limber n scram. Also I Order/Send skirmishers at hand to take under fire n hopefully destroy batteries that are hammering/harassing me. *--------------- Weather your idea for a fix is doable in game, and/or if the developers want to undertake this job with(Gettysburg) at this time is another matter. This fix could be quite the undertaking if was agreeable with them, n they have stated that they will not be doing any more coding for this game. I would like to see a hot fix though with the long range Artillery(Unions only) whereas % would be lowered with kills/accuracy. With Supported Artillery in closer quarters, it is acceptable with the rounds/type fired--- % Hits/Kills.... imo.. As stared by the Dev's, a lot of this feedback can n will be considered in the next Battle(Antietam.) I believe that's where the resources should be concentrated now on (Antietam), in my humble opinion. David you have a wealth of historical information with the ACW. I enjoy reading your posts as I usually learn things ,n appreciate your participation with voicing them here, as I imagine/know others do as well. -It's quite the tight rope the developers have to walk with trying to have the game as real as possible, while still bring us a enjoyable experience with this game. This I understand n appreciate, compromises are n have to be made. -Mr. Thomadis I know is well read on the subject, n works hard to get things' right.... With us working together observing/making suggestions to implement going forward.... this game(Ultimate Generals)/Future Game(s) can only get a lot better. With that said I really enjoy this game, I still have only played half of all custom maps..... Plus the maps I do replay always play out differently. This within itself speaks Volume's for the replay Value of UG:G................ Cheers..... Edit: For wording/Clarity
  14. {Determined//ANV} - The Unions 2nd and 3rd Corps Flanking Maneuver - http://imgur.com/a/SC2aX/layout/horizontal#0 - July 2nd 1863, 06:30 - Good battle. Pettigrew's n Davis' Brigade's, are missing from the Initial formation of the game, n throughout the Battle. Battle Report: http://imgur.com/a/SC2aX/layout/horizontal#13 Also missing 3rd. Corps Commander. This is why I have advocated for Divisional Cmdr. to be present on the field, if n when Divisions are Alone/Attached. Heths' Divisional Brigades'/Batteries' became Battle Fatigued n was hard to get there Morale n Condition to regenerate, thereby easily routed.
  15. PrezesOi----I agree trench warfare would be boring as a game of this type. But, Neither of these Battles mentioned were trench warfare fights/battles. @ Lettow-Vorbeck..............Marne, East Prussian campaign of 1914?? Did you mean The Tannenberg Campaign in East Prussia 1914? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_invasion_of_East_Prussia_(1914)#/media/File:BattleOfTannenberg1.jpg --- In North Eastern France: The First Battle of the Marne was fought from 5–12 September 1914. The battle was composed of three major actions: The Battle of the Ourcq, 5–9 September; 6–9 September; the Battle of the Two Morins, 6–11 September; and the Battle of the Saint-Gond Marshes, as well as numerous ancillary engagements. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Battle_of_the_Marne ********* The Eastern Front for the most part was 1600 km long. The battle lines on the Eastern Front were much more fluid and trenches never truly developed. This was because of the greater length of the front. The Brusilov Offensive of June 1916: The Austrians lost a staggering 1.5 million men (including 400,000 taken prisoner) and ceded some 25,000 square kilometers of ground. http://www.firstworldwar.com/source/brusilovoffensive_brusilov.htm
  16. Individual Regiments are not represented in this game. So they were left out. The battle at the railway cut was a small but deadly affair with 2 of Davis's regiments getting Mauled. There were more battles at the Company/regimental level, but again only Brigades are represented. The Battle at the Bliss Farm comes to mind, with only Skirmishers/Sharpshooters at first, than company's>regiments than evolved into quite an affair at the regimental level. This happened a number of times through out the civil war. Side Battles at the company n regimental levels. Fury at Bliss Farm Entering through the large doors facing the Southern lines, Confederate marksmen soon filled the upper story of the barn, ‘whence they picked off our men with impunity from the loop-holed windows.’ To clear out the snipers’ nest, Hays dispatched three companies of the 126th New York shortly after noon. Led by Captain Charles Wheeler, the sortie was successful, capturing the barn and some of the Southern sharpshooters..... ......... In just over 24 hours, the seesaw struggle for the no man’s land around the Bliss buildings had involved more than 10 regiments, Union and Confederate, and produced hundreds of casualties for both sides. Looking back on the episode, Chaplain Stevens might have spoken for all those involved when he wrote: ‘We believe the fight for the Bliss buildings to have been the most notable episode connected with the doings of any individual regiment occurring during the great battle of Gettysburg. Had the buildings been destroyed the first time captured by our troops, many lives uselessly sacrificed would have been spared and much needless suffering avoided. It was one of the ‘fool things’ of war. Yet it was a grand lesson to our boys, and it furnished one of the brightest points in their most glowing record. In that sortie some precious lives went out, some cripples were made, and every man that escaped hurt came back panting and wearied and feeling that ‘out of the jaws of death’ he had come.’ * http://www.historynet.com/battle-of-gettysburg-fury-at-bliss-farm.htm
  17. SP{V 1.5 rev. 9268} CSA/Defensive/AI Boost Campaign Phase 1. http://imgur.com/a/5bfyW#0 The Battle: Morning 1 July...AAR........ ----- I marched All my 3rd Corps Brigades South to start my attack except Scale's brigade, with McGraw / Zimmerman Batteries. I had kept them north of the Main body to keep Calef n the Skirmishers busy. At the first opportunity I wanted to destroy Calef's Battery, which I did. When my Army was situated, I sent Heth's Skirmishers across the Valley of Death on a scout over to Seminary Ridge to see where the Batteries were. I discovered in short order that the 2 batteries there, were in the hands of the Stalwart Capt's of Cooper n Stewart, n farther North the menacing Battery of Hall's. Needless to say Heth Scrims. were practically destroyed. n retired off the map. 11:14-11:17: I needed to get across that Valley quickly. I brought up my Artillery to the top of the ridge to start a bombardment. I sent Brockenbrough running across to attack n destroy Stewart asap, than turn North to bring Cooper under Fire. As the three Batteries would of hammered me hard without the Great work of Brock. Once Brock charged / Destroyed Stewart with Great success!, I was committed to get across that Valley asap. to support Brockenbrough Isolated Brigade.... This charge by Brock n His success was the key,,,To be able to put my Battle Plan to work.... 11:39-11:41:I sent the other Brigades, on a 'run across the Valley to engage the other Batteries n Brigades in n around Seminary VP. This I wanted to do that Before Baxter n Paul could be sent South from Oak to Support. At the same time I pushed Scales up to McPherson's Farm with his 2 Batteries, hopefully to get them on Oak to get the AoP in a Major Cross fire from the West n North. 11:45: Now this is where it gets interesting, Paul n Baxter were in a full run South from Oak. I was hoping they would keep running South to give Support at Seminary. But upon seeing Scales, n Batteries they Fell Back to counter my push to Oak. This was great AI work, with Paul n Baxter at Oak the advantage was in my hands.... 12:02: Without Paul's n Baxter's ~ 2500 Muskets to give weight in the defense of Seminary, the AoP defensive line began wavering, they had to fall Back n give up the Prize!!! With ~ 8000 men going forward displaying great determination n Resolve, and with LtGen Hill's presence, urging them on. -------------------- Seminary was Captured!! ----------------- 12:10: The AoP did Fight in a Great Defense,Paul n Baxter Falling Back to protect, n when the AoP realized the Game was up fell back n Formed a Nice line of defense to the East of Seminary...
  18. There were 5 regiments that made up the Iron Brigade at that time. * 24th Michigan*2nd Wisconsin*19th Indiana*7th Wisconsin*6th Wisconsin* The 4 Regiments of the Iron Brigade as mentioned above were in a hell of a fight in the Herbst Woods just South of the McPherson's Farm The 6th joined the 95th New York and the 84th New York (also known as the 14th Brooklyn) The *6th Wisconsin Colonel Dawes would be the kind of leader whom I would have great confidence in. Interesting History with that man's Grandfather. By the way the Brigade that was trying to get around(flank) the Iron Brigade Was lead by BGen J.R. Davis, he was the nephew of President Jefferson Davis... Davis's Brigade was the second Confederate brigade committed to the fight in first day of the Battle of Gettysburg. Sending in all of his regiments except the 11th Mississippi, General Davis allowed two of his regiments to become trapped in an unfinished railroad cut that was too deep for the men to use as a trench (around 20 feet deep at the deepest). The two regiments suffered many men wounded and captured Here's a video with the charge of the '6th Wisconsin, into the railway cut. This whole Video series is well put together, with the reenactors // animation of the battle field. From 1:15 to 7 min. mark..covers the 6 Wisconsin's charge..
  19. That's a bad situation Blazey's 3 Brigades n 2 Batteries are in,,.Post # 12...... 20. You are correct with the numbers that arrived ~1885....but......... The 6th Wisconsin at the Battle of Gettysburg The Sixth Wisconsin was commanded at the Battle of Gettysburg by Lieutenant Colonel Rufus R. Dawes..... going into action northwest of town during the morning of July 1st. The regiment was initially held in reserve from the rest of the Iron Brigade. When Davis’ Mississippi Brigade threatened to outflank the Iron Brigade the 6th Wisconsin charged across open ground to the Railway Cut north of Chambersburg Pike, trapping much of Davis’ command and taking a number of prisoners, particularly from the 2nd Mississippi Infantry. http://gettysburg.stonesentinels.com/union-monuments/wisconsin/6th-wisconsin/ --------- The 6th joined the 95th New York and the 84th New York (also known as the 14th Brooklyn), a "demi-brigade" commanded by Col. E.B. Fowler, along the pike. The three regiments charged to the railroad cut, where Davis's men were seeking cover. The majority of the 600-foot (180 m) cut (shown on the map as the center cut of three) was too deep to be an effective firing position—as deep as 15 feet (4.5 m). Making the situation more difficult was the absence of their overall commander, General Davis, whose location was unknown. The men of the three regiments nevertheless faced daunting fire as they charged toward the cut. The 6th Wisconsin's American flag went down at least three times https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Gettysburg,_First_Day#Railroad *************************************************** The 24th Michigan followed closely on the heels of the 2nd Wisconsin and advanced so fast that the men lacked time to load their rifles before entering the smoke filled woods to the left of the 2nd Wisconsin. Joined by the 19th Indiana and 7th Wisconsin, the Iron Brigade now had roughly 1,450 men positioned to take on the 1,200 soldiers in Archer’s Brigade. Reaching the southern edge of Herbst Woods, the Michigan men were quickly greeted by Confederate bullets. Color Sergeant Abel Peck of the 24th was killed straight off and the regiment’s colors were quickly grabbed by Corporal Charles Bellore before it hit the ground. Despite the growing enemy fire, the 24th pressed forward. http://www.civilwar.org/battlefields/gettysburg/gettysburg-2011/the-battle-for-herbst-woods.html
  21. @ Riekopo This is a great Game..... http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/746-on-line-guide/ I don't know when it was last updated, but "IF" you read thru take notes like I did, you will be well on your way to being a better General. Blunts Tutorial is a great guide to help manage your game woos http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/1868-blunts-tutorial/ Condition Morale directly affects (and is affected by) a unit's condition. This factor is a combination of the current physical state of the unit and an "abstracted" status of its supplies. The unit's condition is affected by its speed, terrain and the distances it has to cover. The use of firepower increases unit fatigue and the need for resupply. You have to be cautious when using your run or charge to conserve a unit's condition. Constant assaults will exhaust and disorganize them. Infantry units are also not suited to engagements involving long marches. Remember that a unit in bad condition will lose its morale more quickly. You can replenish the unit's condition by placing it in a safe location and near a General. Batteries will Play themselves out and deplete to 0 morale/ condition when left to keep firing freely. You have to watch them, keep batteries closer to main Battle, but not too close. Change to Canisters/Shell this will stop the Battery firing from great distances. Solid Shot has little effect at distance n will deplete all there ammo, in short order. Group a few Batteries in Reserve to preserve, than rotate/replace others that are wearing down n need to rest n rearm... There is only so much ammo a caisson can carry, Ammo must be replenished If you stop them firing before they run out of ammo they will replace ammo i.e Condition. The University of British Columbia has it in ebook, but is reserved for Registered Students in Studies....... ----- Here's a link to a site you probably have read, Also may be of interest to others.... Southern Historical Society Papers, Volume 14.. 'Reminiscences of field ordnance service with the Army of Northern Virginia—1863' During the campaign of 1862, which, as General Gorgas says, was the hardest year upon his department, the perplexities of ordnance officers in the Army of Northern Virginia were frequently relieved by important captures from the enemy. ------- The troops at this time were armed in a heterogeneous fashion. Many of the men had smooth bore muskets, caliber .69. Others had rifled muskets, caliber .54; and others still had Springfield muskets, caliber .58. There were some other arms, as, for instance, some Belgian rifles, caliber .70, but the three kinds I have mentioned were the principal kinds in the hands of the infantry in January, 1863. We were all anxious to replace the smooth bores with rifles, and especially with caliber .58, which was the model the Confederate as well as the Federal Government had adopted. The battlefields of the preceding summer had enabled many commands to exchange their smooth bores for Springfield muskets, but as nine-tenths of the arms in the Confederacy at the beginning of the war had been smooth bore muskets, it required time and patience to effect a complete re-arming. This was finally done in the Second corps at Chancellorsville, but in the winter of 1862-‘63, there was often found in the same brigade the three kinds of arms above enumerated, and the same wagon often carried the three kinds of ammunition required.......... http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A2001.05.0271%3Achapter%3D7
  25. I agree^^^, Thx for the added info concerning Lee with Davis, never knew that, I would like to know where you learned that, book?, If so could you tell me the name so I could obtain it.. The Book, 'The Confederacy's Last Hurray' By ' Wiley Sword(Spring Hill / Franklin / Nashville) was an eye opener for me.. Especially at the Battle of Franklin.... where Hood was n what he was doing when the battle was going on,,,Its very hard to believe....But I have come across a few sources...that pretty well state the same... *********************************************** *The Battle of Franklin was fought on November 30, 1864, at Franklin, Tennessee, as part of the Franklin–Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. It was one of the worst disasters of the war for the Confederate States Army. Confederate Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood's Army of Tennessee conducted numerous frontal assaults against fortified positions occupied by the Union forces under Maj. Gen. John M. Schofield and was unable to break through or to prevent Schofield from a planned, orderly withdrawal to Nashville. The Confederate assault of six infantry divisions containing eighteen brigades with 100 regiments numbering almost 20,000 men, sometimes called the "Pickett's Charge of the West", resulted in devastating losses to the men and the leadership of the Army of Tennessee—fourteen Confederate generals (six killed or mortally wounded, seven wounded, and one captured) and 55 regimental commanders were casualties. After its defeat against Maj. Gen. George H. Thomas in the subsequent Battle of Nashville, the Army of Tennessee retreated with barely half the men with which it had begun the short offensive, and was effectively destroyed as a fighting force for the remainder of the war. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Franklin_%281864%29
