  1. I know the advice given to me. Which I kept to was to keep heating the Union troops with a big stick. I looked to do that in every battle. Minor or major. I just kept going for them.
  2. I did concentrate on the money side of things first. Only increased the AO when was going to be required. Also, if I did have a lack of money. I was happy to take a brigade with very high morale etc. Change it to rookie when replenishing losses. The morale etc only went down a small amount. But helpe to save on outlay. I only know that the above did help me to win the war. Sorry for the double quote above. 🙃. Regards
  3. Also, as I progressed I checked the weapons I had in stock. If never going to use. Then I sold them. This was especially useful before Washington I sold absolutely everything I was not going to need in order to use on what I felt was needed.
  4. I felt the unit restore of 20% was worth having
  5. Hi, Based on middle level. IE BG. I went with Politics, Medicine, Training and Logistics. The rest I added when I had maxed out. Attached is my record after the Battle of Mansfield. Regards
  6. Hi, Many thanks for the tips. Much appreciated. Cheers 👍
  7. Hi, Thank you. Yes will be starting a Union campaign. Looking forward to seeing how it differs when in barracks. Pleased to hear the size of my army is almost the same as yours. I didn’t have any cavalry. I decided to concentrate on my infantry. Backed up by the most guns I have used in the campaign. I had a brigade ( down to approx 800 men) that was only armed with farmers. In the 2nd phase of Washington they held the defences directly in front of Washington. Three Union brigades attack them. Every hand to hand was repulsed. They held for the entire 2nd phase. Most impressed with them. Plus other brigades which held their ground.
  8. It did take me 2 attempts at the Battle of Washington ! Thought I had won (no doubt so have many others). Only for it to go into a second day ! The UG makers are a sadistic bunch 😳. Should have known wouldn’t be that easy to win the whole campaign in a single one day battle. Nice twist. Though not the first thought that came to my mind 😉. But after some thought managed to work it out. Looking forward to trying to show the USA how to win now. Great game ! 👏👏👏👏👏 The UG people are brilliant. Thanks for providing so much entertainment.
  9. I have photos showing the details in full. However it states they are too large to post ! Only been taken with an iPad. Never had a problem before. Many thanks for help. Details below 👍
  10. Today I can confirm in my second campaign I have defeated the Union. Despite the odds. All ranks of the army gave their all for the cause. My Corps commanders were outstanding. Robert E Lee, Thomas Jackson, A.P. Hill. All carried out my orders with great understanding and leadership. I cannot praise the men that served under them high enough.
  11. Another victory for the Confederacy. The battle of Mansfield. Looking to really inflict heavy casualties on the Union. Capturing large numbers of weapons. Coming in very handy ! Continuing to take prisoners to exchange for extra recruits. So far so good. Keeping Union numbers down ! Onwards and upwards 🤞
  12. I have just finished the Battle of Chickamauga. You were right. Very challenging ! But very enjoyable at the same time. Wow. It was like playing 5 small battles at the same time. Yet they were all linked. I was constantly going from one part to another part of the battle. Definitely needed to concentrate. I was worn out at the end ! Pleased to say I came out with a victory. Onwards and upwards 🤞
  13. Hi, Thanks for the advice. I’m trying to loose as few troops as possible but trying to inflict as many casualties as poss. This keeps the Union numbers down. I always looked to take prisoners. Handy for obtaining an extra 1000 recruits. Also, pleased at the number of weapons I’m capturing. Have finished Gettysburg. The battle finished on day 2. I inflicted a total of 39498 casualties. My loses were 15439. I captured a number of goods. The highlight being 6930 Springfield M1861. I have just finished Siege of Jackson. I fielded 59109 against the Union’s 57784. Union losses were 39000 including 67 guns. My casualties were 15361. I also took 1629 prisoners which gave me an extra 1000 recruits. So will be moving on to Chickamauga. My strength will 65,926 including 96 guns. UG is brilliant. I’m playing it on Apple iMac. Very impressive ! Cheers
  14. I’m a newbie. But agree with everything you have said 👍 Cheers 🍺
  15. I leaned from my first campaign that to win you need to become proficient in Barracks. I feel confident on the battlefield. But I used my first campaign to learn all I could about how the Barracks works. It is now paying dividends. The battle may be won on the field. But the victory is won in the Barracks. I spend a long time in Barracks fine tuning my Corps for each battle I am about to fight. The different battles do require the Corps to be tweaked. I learned this I in my first campaign. Now into my second. The Union are suffering heavy casualties. Try also to take prisoners. This can result in an extra 1000 recruits. Very handy ! I have not been playing UG that long. But my knowledge of how to work when in the Barracks is responsible for most of my victory’s. In to my second 2nd campaign I remain undefeated. Inflicting high casualties on the enemy. This keeps their numbers down for future battles. Playing as the CSA this needs to be achieved. If not their numbers will be your downfall. I keep saying it. UG is superb. Although a ‘newbie’. I’m happy to offer any help to others. Perhaps to other ‘newbies’ I may have advice that the more experienced players no longer think of.
  16. Hi Yes. Agree there. I didn’t expect to do to well in my first campaign. I did use it to learn how the Barrack’s worked. But still enjoyed it. I was pleased to have got to Gettysburg. But now. It’s a whole different ball game. Very enjoyable as was the first campaign. But nice to have so many troops ! I find it enjoyable when in Barracks. Sorting out my Corps. Weapons etc. UG is brilliant. Not just I’m now doing better. Always enjoyed it. Win or lose Cheers.
  17. My second campaign is going very well. To give an idea. So far I have won every battle. Minor and main engagements. To give an idea I have just won Chancellorsville on day one. Followed by a simple victory at the church which follows on. I am trying to inflict as many casualties as possible to keep Union numbers down. Also to take prisoners to exchange for recruits. All this is only because I now understand how the Barracks works. I learned the hard way in my first campaign, when my army was pitiful. I enjoyed the small encounter at Brandy Station as this involved using Jeb Stuarts troops ! I will soon start to organise the 3 Corps required for Gettysburg. My forces will number just under seventy 71,000 plus 90 Guns. My Corps commanders are Robert E Lee, Thomas Jackson and A.P.Hill. Hill will not be required as only 3 Corps required. At the moment my rating is higher than his. My reputation is at 100, so I may spend and increase my forces. I do expect another Victory. Weapons are not a problem. I am capturing large numbers fron the Union. Over 7000 Harpers Ferry and even 9 20pdr Parrots plus 12pdr guns and other infantry weapons. I cannot stress enough all this is only possible because I now understand the Barracks. I have learned if you wish to succeed,it is so important to learn this part of the game. Onwards and upwards 🤞
  18. Hi, I now understand the above. Thanks 👍. Went through a “sharp learning curve” in my first campaign when in Barrack’s. I’m seeing icons and understanding what they mean now ! That helps an awful lot. Now I seem to being doing something right (so far). I have reached and just passed Gaines’ Mill. I am able to field Brigades of 1500-2000. Makes all the difference. No concern as the top right of the screen depicts the number of Union troops available, along with their % of training and weapons. I have been “beating them with a stick” every battle. I’m taking prisoners which gives me extra recruits. But I’m also seeing how it keeps the Union army size down. In fact sometimes it’s going down after a battle ! This is so different from my first campaign. I know I have to stay on my toes. Still a long way to go. But at the moment loving the amount of Brigades I’m able to field. This UG ACW is awesome. Ok feels good when doing well. But still enjoyed my first campaign which was totally different and I did not quite do as well. Onwards and upwards. 🤞
  19. Please see below. Which covers the start of my 2nd Campaign Cheers
  20. Sorry guys. I have know idea why this has come up 🤔. This was posted on the 21 July. Which is when my 1st Campaign was stopped at Gettysburg.
