  1. My brave Army of the Arkansas is preparing to take on Chancellorsville. I'm on Brigadier General difficulty, approaching with an army of a little over 80k. The "intelligence bar" shows the Union army at 130k. How am I doing numbers wise? I haven't made it this far in a long time, and I'm afraid I'm a bit rusty... between that and the new update, I'm not sure how many troops I have to have. Is 80k enough? How many do you guys usually have by now? Also, I've never been any good at Chancellorsville... Any advice for the battle itself?
  2. *Jedi mind-trick wave* This is not the forum you are looking for...
  3. While I'm already asking dumb questions, are there any free units the player gets, besides Forest's Cavalry as the CSA and the Iron Brigade as the Union?
  4. Holy crap! Seriously? I guess I never actually won Sharpsburg to find that out
  5. Sorry, noob question. So is there a point where the CSA player actually gets Robert E Lee as a general? I've played all the way to Stones River, and no sign of him. I assumed since you get Grant and Sherman as the Union side, that you would get Lee for the Confederacy.
  6. There is something I would like to bring up... something so unimportant and trivial I hesitate to even mention it... Here goes... The player's general's full name appears in the Corps general, instead of just their last name. The only way to remedy this is to only type your last name when you start the campaign, but then you only see your general's last name in the campaign menu, when every other general has their whole name Again, this is ridiculous and unimportant, but my OCD drags it to my attention. Perhaps you could either A: have the game recognize the space between the names and act accordingly, or B: have separate spaces for the player to fill in their first and last name. I hope that made sense.
  7. Awesome! Though I hope those historical and/or custom variants for Washington and Richmond come soon, I realize they're a lot of work to balance and refine. This'll hold me over for now. Thanks for the update, sir, and thank you for making this fantastic game!
  8. No kidding? Ol' Albert survived in mine, too. I promoted him to Corps general, where he served the rest of the war as leader of the second best corps in my army. I always have a soft spot for officers I actually admire in real life "Sir, we can take the objective if the 2nd Texas charges those fortifications!" "But... but JEB Stuart leads the 2nd Texas... He's a super cool guy.... you know, The Last Cavalier and all that... I wouldn't want him getting hurt..." "Sir, we can't win unless the 2nd Texas charges." "Hm.... you know what, let's just start over again! Back to 1st Manassas again, everybody!!" *facepalm*
  9. I know, right?? My first Play-through on hard, I literally lost. I just kind of sat there stunned for a few moments, saying "did I seriously just get defeated on the tutorial mission...?"
  10. No question in my mind. Hood's Texas Brigade by Don Troiani. Like Major Grigg, I am deeply intrigued by the story behind it. The Texas Brigade's stand in The Cornfield has always been one of my favorite moments in Civil War history.
  11. Awesome! Thanks for answering so quickly!
  12. Pardon, sir! Will the speculative battles also be added to the free-play Historical Battles? I mean, will it be possible to just play the battles separate from the campaign the same way we do with historical battles? Thank you, sir! I really appreciate everything you've done, this is easily my favorite game of all time.
  13. Mmmmm... that sounds amazing! Maybe we can also drink some ice cold A&W root beer from the last off topic thread.
  14. So, yeah, I know this is probably a super stupid question, but I can't figure out how to replenish men in an artillery brigade... I mean, I can add extra canons, but other then that, is there any way I can just replenish the manpower? Sorry to ask, but I can't figure it out.
  15. Exactly! UG-CW does what I think every game should do: instead of spending lots of time and money developing fancy graphics, just make an interesting game. All the games these days are just all flash.
  16. A refrigerator in an abandoned house used by a former cockroach farmer that left huge tubs of cockroach food lying around.
  17. I'm just glad to know that I'm not the only one struggling! I'm on my first Legendary playthrough, and I just keep hitting a wall at Antietam. I've tried every strategy I can think of, but I just can't quite pull out a decent victory.
  18. Fascinating! I might try that one myself. The main problem with my strategy is that eventually I over-stretch my lines, then the enemy breaks through and cuts off a large part of my army. This was especially a problem during a game when my troops defending Dunker Church became entirely surrounded and cut off.
  19. I know we've had a few discussions like this before, but Antietam just keeps getting harder and harder for The Confederacy with each patch. I'm pretty good at this game, but certainly no General Lee, like most of the people here are, and I can't help but feel like I could be doing things more efficiently. This is mostly for tactics used by Confederate generals to win the battle, but Union tactics are welcome as well. Personally, my strategy is very simple: Don't give them an inch. All your most easily defended positions to hold objectives are the positions you start out with. (The northern edge of The Cornfield for Dunker Church, the Bloody Lane itself for The Sunken Lane, and the stone bridge for the right flank.) I simply do my best to never withdraw, no matter what the casualty rate is. Because I know that if I withdraw, I'll be giving up the best possible positions, and causing even more casualties in the long run. All that to say, besides an odd flanking movement, my main strategy at Antietam is to just stand my ground no matter what the cost. What are your strategies?
