  1. I agree. I'm in my new CSA campaign I was playing with min army (2 div per corps, 4 brigades per div - AO 2) up to 2nd Bull Run. Union army is scaling accordingly, never more than 25k in major battles. Interestingly, that lead to much more 2* and 3* enemy brigades present (almost whole Union army at Malvern Hill was 2* and 3*), with some strange captures (no Springfields 1842, almost all Palmetos and 1855s). A bit strange (if you compare it to historic troops) but making battles challenging and very fun to play
  2. Also won on first day in my first Gettysburg battle. Similar strategy (not intentionally), best corps attacking from west, weakest corps for north (I was saving my 2nd good corps for 2nd day actually). Overrun Union easily, routing almost all their units with several units captured. I had significant losses tough (16k to Union 28k), but since I'm restarting campaign anyway I thought to give it a push on 1st day and see what happens Captures were a bit odd, 15 20pdrs Parrots among other exotics ?!
  3. Well, current solution for Gettysburg 1st day/Chancellorsville 3rd day - where you have several hours after timer runs out, is really good one. It allows you to plan for determined push to capture VP and win battle, but not to totally rush for it. I like it a lot!
  4. I won't redo whole campaign, at least not before playing Gettysburg first It will hurt to abandon my ANV which I dedicated so much time and caring to. Oh well, alpha I guess...
  5. Hm, reloaded game again...same thing (both on save geme after Salem Church and new save game in south camp). Does this mean I should redo whole Chancellorsville/Salem Church battle again?
  6. same here (see pic) I reported this bug with F11 too.
  7. At least it was a heroic death I was tempted to re-do battle just to save him (one of my favorite CSA generals), I must admit
  8. Same here. Only use right click ti move units already engaged or to be engaged. Otherwise, plotting route is essential imo.
  9. Lost A.P.Hill at Chancellorsville , he was leading his division in final push to take farm (3rd day).
  10. I've tried Fburgh as historical battle, on Major General diff as Confederates...and it was victory (of course) with 70k Union loses !? As already said, blue coates just kept coming and were annihilated. To much imho
  11. I was also frustrated, playing as Confederates, how much casualties I had. I played battle several times (normal difficulty, similar numbers, about 57k vs 110k) and always would have 20-25k casualties to Union 50-60k (too much, especially with Gettysburg as next battle). Finally, I got to acceptable result (I think) 12k casualties to 40k Union casualties (and at Salem Church 600 to 11k Union?!) with basically historical strategy: moderate push on 1st day (not attacking Chancellorsville), destroying XI Corps and mauling reinforcements sent to them on 2nd, and all-out attack on 3rd day. Most of my casualties were on 3rd day, but since you must attack very well fortified Union position this is to be expected.
  12. While I'm very eager to see next patch with new battles...I must agree with this post. And we should all keep in mind that this game is work in progress
  13. I'll do another try with smaller army this time. In my initial battle I had some 70k in total with 50k participating in battle (2 Corps with 4 div each, 5 brigades per division). Scaling hit me hard since I fought 140k Union troops in total. I now reverted to 3 div per corp and disbanded one division from 3rd corp...so now I'm facing a lot lesser Union army (80k on first day compared to 100k previously). Will see how I fare against that though, since I'm fighting with 40k troops now It would really be helpful if scaling is based only on base how much troops you bring to battle, not your entire army.
  14. First time I played it I also captured Farm on 1st day but advanced to 2nd day anyway, so I guess it's hard-coded. I think best strategy is to be very conservative on 1st and 2nd day and than pound Union army with artillery on 3rd day for several hours before advancing on farm. You have enough time to capture VP and your losses will be acceptable. Downside is you won't be inflicting so many Union casualties as if you play aggressively on 1st and 2nd day, so less captured weapons. It's much easier to defend than to attack for sure...but that's historical anyway
  15. I had to re-do battle several times to find optimal strategy to conserve troops as Confederates. Best is to attack very cautiously on 1st and 2nd day and concentrate on center part of front on 3rd day. Even than I had 13k casualties to Union's 36k (they defended very stubbornly at farm). Previously I would lose about 22-24k to 60k Union if I would attack on 1st and 2nd day...and that's too much for my army since it would cripple it for future battle. It's very tough battle for Confederates, since final VP is well fortified with open ground all around...and you must attack very hard to take it.
  16. Just ended this battle in my CSA campaign and few observations. - I captured all VPs on 1st day of battle...but got to 2nd day on fixed positions (Chancellorsville camp as contested). A bit confusing (similar to 2nd Manassas), but OK. It can be explained that Union reinforcements forced me to fall back a bit (although I was pounding them to bits before 1st day ended). I think that VP system should be changed a bit, to give clear indication what needs to be really captured to progress further in battle (ie Hornets nest in Shiloh) an what not. This way player (at least me ) rush to get them all which increase casualties - Very minor bug really - intro for 2nd day still talks about Jackson's flanking corp even that in my battle that corp is lead by Lee. I presume it just use text from historical battle but I think it's really easy to fix it to display actual corps leader name. Helps to increase immersion imo . - I had several brief fps issues on 2nd day, probably since the map is huge with many units (I had 2 corps with 4 full divisions and god knows how many Union troops). Not really a problem but I guess performance could be still worked on.
  17. I'm also playing on normal as CSA and in that battle before Chancellorsville (the one where you defend against bunch of 3* Union cavalry and infantry) I captured 7 20pdr Parrots. I'm yet to test them in battle, but I agree that 14pdr James is performing rather poorly (12pdr Whitworth is way better imo).
  18. Just played Stone river in my CSA campaign...what a tough battle! Won it in first attempt but with heavy casualties. Love this game ! Great work guys.
  19. Can't wait to get back home and try it. I was about to ask when this patch is to be released, started to suffer withdrawal symptoms after finishing my last campaign battle couple of days ago On more serious note: How big is a difference with new Fredriksburg battle phase? Does it make sense to re-do it?
  20. On other hand, I personally would not like to end up loosing campaign as CSA (or play desperate last battles in 1864) even that I managed to win every single campaign battle with crushing loses to Union. Some branching would be needed in the end I think
  21. I've just finished my 2nd CSA campaign and I noticed something strange (?) about my 2nd Fredericksburg battle. On start of second day, Prospect Hill part of front, there was no Union troops attacking at all ?! In my first battle I was attacked there in force, so I was really surprised that all Union troops attacked at Marye's Heights. Now, difference between those two battles is that in first I had only 1,5 divisions at Prospect Hill, while in second battle I had full 3 divisions there. I like to think that AI is so good that instead attacking such a fortified position it opted to throw everything at Marye's Heights (not that it helped it, it was complete slaughter), but just wished to check here if someone also experience this?
  22. Happened to me too. I chose to attack on second day and actually took both hills that are objectives on day 3...but when day 3 started my flanking force was reseted to start position on extreme right of map. Probably something that could be changed sometime in futture...
  23. Just finished it winning as CSA. Numbers were similiar, 124k Union against mine 63k. My strategy was: Weakest 3rd corp (1,5 division almost all greenhorns) on north, best 1st crop (almost all veterans) in middle and medium 2nd Corp on south. 3rd corp defended wood and Church, with only skirmishers posted at fences (to delay Federals which they did). It held it's ground until 2nd part battle started and Union converged in mass on it's position, so I had it fell beck south to the left of my 1st Corp which was entrenched at Sunken road. I had my best troops there, with 84 cannons (8 24lb Howitzers, 24 Napoleons , 24 parrots and 30 6lbs from mauled 3rd corp). Union attacked in waves but each attack was beaten back with heavy causalities. I also diverted 4 brigades to defend bridge, so by the time Federal troops start appearing they run into my ambush. When 3rd final part of battle started, my 2nd fresh corp was split to defend southern bridge and that bridge in middle...so it was just defending positions after that. About 1,5h before battle ended Federals were so weaken on Sunken Road that I counterattacked at extreme left and re-took church and wood around it easily. Even was able to swing 2 Cav brigades to extreme left and cut down some of Union artillery that was undefended. Total casualties: 55k Union, 21k Confederates...very bloody. But I was able to capture so much equipment after battle (12k Springfields 1855!) that my army got significantly modernized after it And manpower is not a big issue anymore, getting modern weapons is more difficult at this point so I consider this as a big victory (we'll see if I feel this after Frediksburgh ) I think my main artillery posted at sunken road was a key factor, they inflicted around 11k causulties (more than 3k by Heavy Howitzer battery alone!)
