Correct. As you said, context matters. And if we are going to ask others to consider the context in which we use these symbols, I think we should also be sensitive to the context in which those same symbols are repulsive.

Apple is entitled as a private company to adopt whatever policies it chooses, including barring its services from being used to distribute racist paraphernalia. That is probably Apple's intention. Being a giant corporation, it probably hasn't figured out yet how to distinguish racist paraphernalia from non-racist historical depiction. As a historical gaming community, we should help them sort that out, because it is certainly not our intention as civil war gamers to in any way endorse the racist cause of the South. We just like the sound of the rebel yell as Pickett rallies his troops for the great and tragic charge.

Since this is the only place I know to address my fellow US players, I am posting the following here. Let me know if there is a better place. Proposal: use a selected neutral port as a forward operating base (La Anguila or Mimbres) Since our capital is located some distance from good hunting grounds off Cuba or the Bahamas, it would be good to have a secure neutral port to use as a forward operating base(FOB). If we all work from the same FOB, we can provide mutual security, and perhaps even secure the travel route between our capital and the FOB. It would be good to have a forward port where I know I am very likely to find other US players -- without having to travel the distance back to a US port. Maybe we can use both, La Anguila (for Cuba ops) AND Mimbres (for Bahamas ops).

I apologize for floating an old topic -- I figure it's better that starting new one. I agree with the original post (OP). Hull makes more sense given the time period and armor just bugs me when I see it. Perhaps this post should be retitled: "Armor" vs "Hull" I think it would me minor to fix this, if the community agrees it should be fixed. Perhaps this should be polled. Should I create a new topic?

I would like to suggest a new topic be created and pinned as a guide for tacking -- one that is current. I just got my brig, so I naturally came here to learn the best way to tack it, and I find 8 pages, and I'm not totally sure the original post is accurate and current. I would be glad to review this post and create a new post for the new tacking guide. I'm not sure I'm the best qualified, but I can get it started.
