I think splitting the community is the wrong thing to do. Merging PvP 1 and PvP 2 into 1 server would have been better imo.
The whole "Nightflip" issue stems from the fact that (on pvp 1) there is only 3 nations with a big enough amount of US players. (Pirates, British, US).
Getting more US players to join the other nations could have solved this problem.
Alas, whenever i have suggested the above as a solution to everyones problems, most have shot it down without giving it much thought:
The most used comments i've seen from the western alliance:
- "Why would anyone want to join the Eastern Alliance"
- "How is it out problem the Eastern Alliance don't have US players"
- "Perhaps the Eastern Alliance should try to recruit the US players"
What i've seen the Eastern Alliance comment:
- "That isn't the problem at all."
- "How are we supposed to recruit US players."
- "It is much harder to get US players to join our alliance."
What i don't understand about this is:
- Why didn't some of the US based clans try joining the Eastern Alliance to help balance it out?
- Why haven't some of the EU based clans joined the Western Alliance to help balance out the EU Timezone?
- Why are you all fighting like a bunch of girls from kindergarden instead of acting like adults and discussing it in a proper way. If that had been done maybe we wouldn't see the community being split..
- Why has the only ideas that didn't involve splitting the community been shot down without any thought? And yes, players from both alliances have shot down those ideas.
- Aaand. This is a game is it not? So why all the goddamn hate towards each other? It is so silly that, because of a game, you guys are so mad at each other you cant even talk about it like adults.
Yes, i know, i'm also being slightly toxic in this post. Please remember, this is nothing personal towards anyone.
I am quite simply frustrated by the fact that the community is being split once more...Cheers.

And they were around long before the PvP 2 BLACK clan.

Welp. Most probably i can't be there to participate.
But for now i don't know what OCEAN will do. However, no matter what server we end up joining we will most certainly join the Pirate Faction. (Our policy will not change however. We will only be "allied/friendly" with specific clans. We will fight all national and pirate clans with whom we do not have an agreement of any kind.)- 4

This will be an issue once the wipe happens... -

Untill the following questions have been answered i personally do not have an answer to this question.
1. We don't know if the current server locations will change.
2. We don't know which server will have the most players. (Matters alot to those of us mostly interested in OW PvP).
All in all, OCEAN does not know what we will do as of right now.
The only thing we do know is that we will join Pirates no matter which server we join. (With Pirate v Pirate mechanics being implemented this should give us the most targets on OW.)
Ofcourse, individual members of OCEAN are free to do whatever they like.- 1

Good news indeed.
As for test-bed stuff, erhm, i'm all for those things except the "Structure" feature.
But yeah, none the less Wraith has a good point, the test-bed stuff should probably be moved to the main servers for a final round of testing before the wipe.- 5

Well, i read the first 3-4 pages.
While i respect whatever decision people choose, i cannot for the life of me see how splitting the community is going to help anyone.
As it looks right now, both servers will probably end up with something like 200-300 people online which we all know isn't sustainable. If you do choose to go through with the split i've got no doubts that you will face much bigger issues on the new server (Lack of enemies, lack of nation balance, etc etc.).
Alas, it is your decision and i respect it. But please think about it for a while longer, while it may solve 1 problem you will probably end up with a bunch of new problems...
I'm just sad that i will have to choose between the two servers, i will without a doubt have friends on both servers. :/- 9

While i am a strong opponent of the long open timers for battles i think a long timer with Signal perk is acceptable. With some luck it might stop people from crying about insta close battles.
It is arguably the best compromise, as long as Signal Perk only allows you to even out the BR i'm 100% fine with a 40 minute timer. Anything less is also fine with me.- 1

Perhaps 1st rates dont need tweaking then. I haven't tested it in a 1st rate for quite some time.
However, how often do you see this happen?
And what about smaller ships? 5th to 3rd rates? How often do see someone demast one of these? (I personally haven't seen anyone demast anything since the great Carronade nerf, everyone are just chaining because it is just as effective, easier to do and can be done without putting yourself at risk of being raked/hull bashed). -
Hey everyone!
So, i'm a big fan of demasting. It is one of the things that take alot of practice to master. It is more skill based than Chain and it requires you to be close to your target.
However, atm demasting is not really a viable tactic. You barely see anyone demast other players in the OW and i personally find this to be very sad.
I'd be more than happy to suggest some test values for mast thickness/cannon penetration so that we can have it implemented on the test server for testing.
But alas, i'm not doing the work unless the Devs will let us test these values.
PS. I'm not saying we should make demasting OP again (As it was before the great carronade nerf). However i am saying it should be just as viable a tactic as chaining.
- Also, i am aware that you can, on the test server, weaken the structure of the ship and then demast. However this does not seem "fair" compared to chaining being effective from the get go.
So please, if you support the idea of making demasting viable again, please like this post and/or comment below with your own opinion!

If you want large battles you need to sail in a large group.. I'm sure if you go to a nations capital in a 10-25 man group they will gather up and fight you.
Or you can take part in the "Screening" at Port Battles, afaik they often get large fights.
There is also "Large Battles" which you can try and get people to join by using Global Chat.- 1

Use "Signalling perk", then your friends can come help you if you get ganked. But you wont be able to have 20 friends join your 1v1.
It is the best compromise because "Counter-ganking" is just as stupid as "ganking".- 1

Gaaah... As a PvP'er i have 0 interest in having "aggressive AI".
Rarely if ever will you have the same content in PvE and PvP. It makes no sense really.
