long range navagation ship race

Recommended Posts

we had a experiance with a fellow officer today that dident want to pvp,,so my suggestion is this,,we can have a long range navagation ship race that cud last for days,,where each entry has to navagate to certain ports for credit to continue, anyone in the top 10 gets some cool stuff and gold.im sure we can find many things do for captains that are not that interested in pvp ,becouse the more people playing the better and healthier the game will be,be cool to trick ur boat out for speed,,,what say you all!

Good idea!  If this is implemented, instead of giving prizes to the top 10 players, rewards could be given to the top three racers for each type of ship.  This would provide a variety of ships racing instead of just the fastest.

People taking part in said event would either have to be invisible or invulnerable to attack on the open sea though because it would be so easy for someone to abuse the system and have friends lay in wait for the competitors even if its to slow them down its damage done.

Start Trek online has mini games and for me that was what kept the game fun, just flying around having fights got boring very quick in the end. Players will need other things to keep them occupied in order to keep the game interesting and fun.

Many of us agree. But perhaps this should wait till the game is complete. Currently the primary focus is to test combat in OW. That's probably what was meant with the suggestion.

Great idea. I participated in regatta like this IRL. That was 24h+ race on the lakes (with entering harbours to report arbiters)  , on boats like these:

That was test of sailing and navigation skils, and of course rowing (if wind was to light ) ;P

As it was great fun IRL so the same should be in game. I support this idea !

Pls forgive language mistakes

Is navigation a difficult task in NA?

Armed with only a compass and basic bearings, no data on winds or currents, finding path not shortest but most optimal sounds like fun.

Would love to eat a wind out of sails in close race or study currents for fastest route.

But any kind of map that shows your position and automatic course plot will make it boring.

Also sails that accelerate you to top speed no problem no danger... boring.

Good idea, but to keep people from abusing invulnerability ships should not be able to sell goods until completing the course.  People who give up on a race and do not complete it could wait until a timer expires before being able to sell again.

This would effectively happen every time war broke out in the real world. If you could get to a country with the information that war had broken out first, you could buy or sell stock that would become more or less valuable once the information became known to the markets there.

In game you could have what would almost be a 'side quest' where once war was declared between two factions you could offer to take the information to a distant port for a entrepreneur, if you're there before anyone else he rewards you handsomely for the trouble. This would effectively become a race against other players who would simultaneously take up the mission.
