Submarine Warfare In Campaign

Hello, probably been discussed somewhere on the forums. How will submarine warfare be modeled in the Campaign game since it was an important part of that time period and the developers are striving for realism.

I hope the developers can make it as realistic as possible. There is nothing better than reading about a battle or ship and researching it on Google to find the game got it right. Great game so far looks really promising.

Submarine and Anti-Submarine Warfare
Submarines will have a special function in the campaign. Expensive to research, submarines sacrifice funds that could be spend on other warship technologies. However, once they become available, each campaign turn you will have the power to sink enemy merchant or military ships without any opposition, unless the opponent has sufficient Anti-Submarine-Warfare(ASW) technologies.

You control submarines by deploying them on the map and choosing their rules of engagement. During wartime, their effect is calculated per turn according to the strategic situation on the map. Similarly, the ASW ability of your ships is auto-calculated according to the amount of destroyers, depth charge equipment, submarine mines, torpedo nets and several other technologies currently researched.

Submarines can open Pandora's Box for the side that chooses an unrestricted warfare policy. An accidental sinking of a neutral ship may drag other nations into a war against you.

I agree with this.

Submerged submarines travel at a top speed of around 10 knots, usual closer 6 knots though. Their endurane is quite limited.

This is at a time when the standard speed for a battleship is well over 20 knots and destroyers are going 30 knots and above.

In 95% of any sea battles where the fleet submarines show up they would be useless. Clutter.

Abstract the whole issue.

Serves the purpose much better.

Would make a great mission though, protecting convoys with destroyers and light cruisers from Wolf Pack attacks.

Their endurance was actually better than a typical dreadnought. For reference HMS Iron Duke had a range of 7,800 nm at cruise speed. U-19 a typical WW1 boat had a range of 9700 nm. Also just because a ship is capable of over 20 kts doesn't mean it can cruise across the Atlantic at that speed. Iron Dukes' range comes from cruising at 10kts. Considering how many warships were sunk by submarines, they were far from useless. But their effectiveness was definitely not in fleet engagements, it was operating solo. So that I would agree.
