Rethinking Killing and Sinking

Recommended Posts

Something that has plagued me since the start of playing this game is the idea that ships are always sunk – this very rarely happened. Most of the time they were captured and sent back to port; then either lost on the way due to damage, broken up or commissioned.

Let me hear your thought and ideas on the following, keep it civil:

  • Make it impossible to sink ships with anything but leaks. This means: No leaks, No sinking.
  • Replace the structure bar with the moral bar.
  • Let the effectiveness of leak repairs depend on the moral of the crew.
  • Let the handling of the ship depend on the moral of the crew (effectiveness drops at less than 70%).
  • Use rum to repair moral and give it a constant regeneration rate of 1% per minute.
  • Increase rum timer further to 30 mins.
  • When moral reaches 0% the ship auto-surrenders.

EDIT: Rum will still regenerate lost crew as it does today.

Let me hear your thoughts, This would really give the feeling of you battering the enemy crew into submission :D – this system will also stop the annoying last second boarding before your opponent sinks.

and always sunk is a little out of proportion  (its just fine as it is)

board the darn ship ,,, and it is your s ,..... or not

Many people loves hunting, not keeping the prey.

Do think please in the middle of a fight with 20 ships each side: who has the time to boarding and then send back the captured ship to the port? No way: you have to sink all enemyes, than, if you have enough time, can board. But usually: end fight—>end fun.

I'm still not sure I get the point? Could this not be worked around by letting you sort out captured ships at the end of the battle? Do you think "please", that historically you'd sink a full 20 ship fleet during a battle?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Trafalgar - 21 ships captured, 1 sunk

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Cape_St_Vincent_(1797) - 4 captured, 0 sunk

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glorious_First_of_June - 6 captured, 1 sunk

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Camperdown - 11 captured, 0 sunk

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Copenhagen_(1801) - 12 captured, 2 sunk

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Nile - 9 captured, 4 sunk

I think the evidence speaks for itself - you could solve it by letting us choose whether to sink or capture the ship after the battle ends.

I tought in the game’s term, not historically (in which i have little, almost none, knowledge). I saw al least 10 videos with at least 15 ships each side, and none boarded. As i said: a lot of players like to sink ships, not keep them. More: a ship still floating can still shoot. So still a menace.

You cannot choose which ship spare and which not at the end of a NA fight: they sink in few time and they don’t surrend.

Thise are my doubts about your proposal, but maybe i am wrong. Let’s test it, if devs will implement it.

@NicklasK

Nice suggestion!

I would extend the possibilities of sinking a ship though!

- leaks (you‘ve already mentioned it)

- fire / fireshock -> explosion of the magazine

- „sink“ as an option implemented in the loot menu

So basicallyI would keep the options of sinking a ship, which are already implemented into the game - except the one of just shooting down the side armor and structure bar.

Edit:

Maybe there should be a mechanic too, that automatically sinks ships which surrendered, after every other player has left the battle instance!?

If not there has to be another solution for those beaten into submission!
