For that matter, what is an "alt?" If the player characters involved are max rank, max crafting and have been played for more hours than 90% of players with only one player character, which is more legitimate?  What's the difference between a U.S. player being paid in-game currency to start a hostility mission for a foreign nation to flip a port (or doing it out of pure spite/treason) vs. someone using forged papers to swap a 3000 hour player character to a nation to start a hostility mission for their former nation? Where do you draw the line?

FYI - VCO was approached by a clan (Not MAGIC) within the US nation that was dissatisfied with the decision made by Sir Texas Sir and the US "leadership" to bow to Russia and give them Marsh, Kidds and eventually Bermuda.  This clan was willing to open up hostility missions for pirates and prevent Russians from taking the regions.  We being responsible custodians of the game will end up declining.

This feature/bug does allow disaffected clans or players within their respective nations to be a little troublesome if ignored.  Not a terrible thing honestly.

  2. Really what the front lines has taught is is we desperately need a new player/rookie starting zone or area.  Just randomly starting at a freetown simply doesn't work and provides an advantage to vets and a significant disadvantage to new players.  We need an island somewhere similar that is the designated start point for ALL new players.  This island provides a base where players learn the tutorial and a few basics.  Players pass the basic tutorial to learn the ropes(there should be a basic and an advanced) and then are given a choice as to which nation to join.  Starting off at a free town is just sloppy.

I like the idea of waiting a week or 2 in another nation and then changing to the impossible ones, but that would hinder new players a bit I think.

  3. I'm not sure 25/25 man BR port battles don't have a place in NA.  Maybe the big dog ports like Santa Domingo / Carta / Whatever should be, but the vast majority of ports need to go back to something more manageable.

Another thought would be the put rate caps on some of the lesser region capitals and bring back all 4th rate rights.  The cost of entry into port battles is currently way too high and smaller clans or nations simply will not be able to compete long term.  Bringing back rate limits would also help minimize this.

I mean it's cool if FENIX wants to stand on HAVOCs shoulders and call themselves tall, but most of us really don't care.  Chest beating in here isn't what the discussion was about.  Grats on having the most players online and securing nassau from neutral bots.  Anolytic has mentioned making the bahamas an FFA / not tied to the front lines zone well BEFORE you guys took Nassau and/or Marsh being announced as a stepping stone to bermuda.  This isn't just about Nassau and Bermuda.

Ok?  Now let's move on without bias.

      ---

With the current iteration of front lines and regions, the price for entry into RVR is extremely high and will discourage anyone but the largest nations and the most powerful clans from participating in RVR.  There needs to be one region that is at the very least, exempt from the typical RVR diminishing factors and used as a new player / cheap battles / low cost entry into RVR area.  This should be the bahamas.

You are correct about BR, majority of those need to be lower (all over the map TBH).  But that's the cart before the horse.  The area needs to be removed from the front lines crap first.  It'll be easier for a nation to get 25 mercs together than it would be for 25 1st rates.

The Bahamas really needs to be a low cost admittance into RVR and provide players with alternatives to the larger regional areas with limited rare woods spawns and perhaps reduced crafting bonuses for ships when clans make these their home ports.  I'd put this in soccer terms, but I don't know anything about the game.  Think of the bahamas as the minor leagues and the rest of the map the majors.

  5. I'm pretty sure he's not whining about Nassau here and simply suggesting that the bahamas be an FFA RVR training ground where cheaper ships can encourage more battles and smaller clans/nations can carve out little areas for themselves.  Locking the entire bahamas into 3-4 capital regions is a shame and will discourage fights more than create them IMO.

Why would anyone not be upset about getting a port that is wiped in a month?

  6. I like it.  I would also add that a release of this magnitude really should hit on a friday at the very least....weekend preferably.  Though boo to your regional servers comments.

I was also thinking about wood/resource availability with a staggered release.

Let's say that at launch there is still 1 LO / WO / Carta (insert whatever meta material port) and it opens right away.  What if we were to create 2 LO (or whatever) ports and place them strategically in 2 different areas and unlock them during different prime times.  A EU time / US time.  This would perhaps lessen the timer monopoly on woods/whatever and allow 2 different communities to still battle on the same server with less crossing of the timer streams.  As it stands the US marches down to San Augustin with impunity and zero chance for any other nation to catch up.  Not really fair for the EU guys.  Though I guarantee the US will put a daytime timer on it.  Same with say a port like little harbor or carta but for US players.

There's plenty of ports out there to use.  Having 1 LO or Carta or WO port seems a bit absurd with a global type of server and locking regions as they currently are.

  7. I know for a fact that there are too many GB clans to get all of them on the friends list.  Now imagine a population closer to what this server was designed for.  It might not be as simple as "asking" to get on the clan list.  We had problems of this nature while in the US with everyone wanting to be in their own clan and occasionally run into it with pirates.  Russia was kinda nice a year ago with like 4 clans..made it easy

Capturing a town and holding it is a team effort. That only one clan owns the port and all it's benefits does not necessarily reflect this reality.

Should players that aren't members of that clan receive some kind of salary from the clan when they help defend or even capture the town? Or get a share of the revenus if they helped raising the hostility?

Clan X fought and won the port.  Clan X pays the daily maintenance.  They should be allowed to dictate what and how much is taxed.  If Captain Serk is upset over the taxes or isn’t getting on the friendly clan list....they he does need to show up and defend the port next time.

    It’s simple really.

Today we had 0 PBs, tomorrow we have 1 PB. I remember a time when I could pick and chose which port I wanted to screen at, just to find some PvP action, now it's becoming as rare as spotting a player in OW. But then again, I'm being overly critical here.

    Remember this?

Cheap ships, lot's of content and hundreds of players involved in battles.

@Privateer, do you think you are that important?

If you've fought him.....he kinda is a big deal.

@--Privateer-- unintentionally started this thread of salt, but his original point still stands.  Fishy reviews impersonating other game users is a shitty thing to do and I think we can all admit that the ban finger (justly or un) has been very active lately....it's natural for him to want to stay well clear of any itchy trigger fingers.

Overall I think looking at 6 iffy reviews is doing a disservice to the community and efforts really should be made to figure out why so many reviews have been mostly negative over the past 2 years and in particular, asking guys with thousands of hours why they left a thumbs down.  Instead we just dismiss things as bridaging or review bombs...rather than address the elephant in the room.

Here's a similar thread from 2+ years ago when the game started trending mostly negative.  This was before the Global server drama and the SORRY review bomb.  Reviewers still echo similar sentients....  It appears that things haven't really changed.

    "like" = similar.

I never said those reviews are from the reddit moderators. Read above "like". But yes, I did say Banished without knowing for a fact it was he, to which I should apologize and I do. Especially considering how much Banished has done for this game's promotion. I went by coincidence of evidence.

BTW, if you know for a fact who wrote those reviews with alt names, then you are at as much at fault as the writer(s). And you seriously think what I wrote on reddit was misleading? I proved the exact point I was making on exactly the kind of "reviews" my OP was aimed at. I said nothing about other reviews. I said nothing about all negative reviews. I wrote of BS reviews and how to recognize them.

Apparently I have already down voted their reviews, so these are from Banished and his friends like the pirates who moderate the Naval Action reddit....which by the way could be forcibly removed for using a trade marked or copyright name as this goes against reddit policy. In the comments on my review, notice how one rat mod thought to ban my post on reddit, LOL.

Except you did say these ARE from Banished and his friends.  And you specifically mention a pirate mod.  C'est Moi.  Since I'm in an educating mood,  what you could of said was...."These reviews ARE most likely from...." and that would of been viewed as highly suggestive, but not outright accusatory.  See the difference?

Frankly, even though I don't trust Chris's word that it was nor members of VCO or ORCA, I do not see it being those clans that wrote these. At least not all of them so claiming it is "pirates" would be too broad of a claim. Even going and claiming individual clans would be broad as well. Based upon the content here stating what is mentioned in these reviews I am not 100% sure it is Banished either who deserved his banishment more than anyone banned in recent months. Lord Vicious is another name that is worth considering since recently he has reemerged as a very critical voice of the game via external platforms. There is just not enough evidence granted to place it upon one person or a group of individuals. No point on witch hunting. Focus more on removing these negative spam bombs because if anything these reviews hurt the game and does nothing to help it develop in certain direction or continue. Developers would easily just drop the game after release and go onto the next thing if the population goes down too low.

Davos my dear, I have never and will never lie to you.  We can all sleep safely tonight knowing you don't think it was VCO.

  12. I mean let’s be honest, this game has been “mostly negative” for well over a year.  These 6 or so reviews don’t add much to the overall opinion and most folks with a brain can figure out they are just spam.  It’s also pretty obvious who this is and it probably could have been prevented.  Just saying.

Personally I’d be more upset over a review like this. If I were the developer I’d be asking this guy personally why he’s upset.  https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198056730594/recommended/311310/

you mean the just enough to bait outside of LT and jump in at 2:59 timer? ahh yeah that one, really balanced :) besides if you sail in a group, stick closer then and it wouldnt make sense to be on the edge of cuba reaching a battle over at hispaniola in time

Personally I feel like if you're stupid enough to try and PVP directly outside the busiest freeport in the game you deserve whatever happens.  But that's just me.

The 2min join timer simply wasn't long enough and is not "what you see is what you get" because players upwind could SEE the battle, but sometimes not get back to it.  An additional minute would make a world of difference to OW battles while impacting the overall game minimally.  Unless you of course PVP outside tortue...
