I have redone calculation for Niagara using material extraction costs and not counting LH or permit costs and it still works out at 5481 Reals to build and you only get back 4432, so you are still short before you start to count cannons.
When you throw in permit cost, cannons, rare woods cost and LH you make a big loss as compared to someone who can redeem a rare wood ship daily and that does not even take into account the time to gather the materials to your crafting port and then you have your single tow/day (also add the cost of the tow) to where you want it, while the DLC player can redeem his ship where he needs it.
Edit: in case you have not done it yet an Essex works out at 19282 for Oak/Oak not counting LH, permits, guns etc.
19282 for an oak/oak Essex thats kinda crazy, and without permits lol .

If they did what was suggested by opening post nobody would buy them .
I predict there will in time be DLC for all rates, 7th to 1st, and tbh can't see a reason they wouldn't. Current economy model will over time create shortage of RvR capable ships and gaps will need to be filled (DLC).
Already are no ships for sale in KPR beyond capped and admiralty shop ones, but guess is still early after econ wipe so will see.

That makes it more clear. Your original post denoted nothing about Peace server.
" Just seen few posts over months from guys on PvE who chose hard nation, perhaps something else to consider for PvE server. "
But i digress
No worries a lot of posts to read as an admin

Would think Hardcore nations are not aimed at new players, and rated Impossible as described as having no Capital and having to conquer if they wish to survive.
Giving them a capital ( with the removal of zones ) makes them the same as any other nation.
Ahem..... PvE server........
Just seen posts by a few guys on PvE that chose those nations with no way to capture ports.... means no admiralty.
Easiest way to address would be make a port capital for each hard nation on PvE server.
Just to clarify again PVE server only lol, changed first post to clarify .

for PVE server nationality of port wont change - clan control will. (but this idea is tentative and might not get in)
short description-
Example
- Port is british (but all nations can access it)
- Port grants bonuses to clan controlling it
-
Other clans(even other nations) can take economic control away from controlling clan by doing sabotage.
That sounds nice way around things, more economic warfare.
Have you also considered adding ports (capital) for "hard" nations on PvE SERVER so new players have access to admiralty?
Just seen few posts over months from guys on PvE who chose hard nation, perhaps something else to consider for PvE server.

Example

I'll craft ships just out of stubborness.

May i ask how you access these supply places that take dubloons?
Is it a clan thing, as shop only takes reals?

My two cents: The fuss is not about the rate so much (for me) as long as they are properly balanced. The Herc and LeReq were not properly balanced imo and Hercs in particular were everywhere and it turned the game into a farce. Thankfully the new damage model inadvertently nerfed the Herc back (the bigger frigates can now overpower them) and so you got away with it and they are actually in a pretty good place now. But that was a black period for this game and very nearly made me quit.
Hercs are total trash now, they have a little more structure than a snow, absolutely no point having one (better to use a surp, reno, cerb that can enter shallows). Yes they were op but now has gone to other extreme, same for all 5th's they are weak now.
Tbh if i could i would ask for money back on DLC lol.
Wait for these new DLC to hit i bet they totally overpowered for first couple months, I hope i wrong but going on previous form wouldn't surprise me.

Creating new ships is very costly.
I'm very happy if DLC help implementing new ones.
btw Pandora is free for EA testers.
Yes me also, Devs neeed cash to keep game going.
Now is just matter of balancing ingame so DLC are not all ships people use.

Former free towns will be added to nearby counties.

This will cause the reposition of standard resources in those counties
- Building wipe will be required
What is this bit about?
Freetowns that were already switched?

Spend a few days getting enough for a permit and woods or.... Just buy 3rd rate dlc and kill everyone else every day lol.
But hey DLC - Devs like cash.
Not for or against but wait and see what result is.

I agree should be about nations, but as we saw in past a time come within every successful endevour the inevitable implosion as more chiefs than indians appear and infighting starts. Last i heard US elect a president etc and thought it sounded quite cool, but people who played as US some found it really annoying.
Don't think it is just NA but a fault within humanity and differences between people .

Hey there, each nation has its own Admiralty store. Off memory, if you are in a national port its the centre icon at the bottom of the screen. This is where you can also buy upgrades eg Bow Figures for doubloons and other stuff for doubloons or combat medals etc.
He's on PvE server as Prussian so Prussia has no ports on there (No RvR to capture ports for hard nations).
I would say maybe contact Ink on forum about situation, easiest way on PvE server i guess would be to make a port each as home ports for hard nations maybe.

Just an observation, but why is it the people asking to be rid of smaller nations don't seem to ever include their own.
Odd that

You realize hostility missions are just a front to supply fleets of ships to kill? You're still gaining hostility the old way by sinking that nations ships.
@Capt Aerobane
Anyway, great ideas massive +1Yes they replaced the old way, but man finding national fleets was such a pain lol.
Maybe would be different now that AI routes been changed though.
@Capt Aerobane
Good idea's though in general- 1

Sinking incoming ships is actually a good idea. But I would not make it as sinking NPC but sinking designated supply ships. When a hostility action is started you trigger a system where you have to stop supplyships (that come from a harbour nearby) and perhaps NPC:s too (to make the process go faster.
What you are describing is how hostility used to be raised by attacking that nations ships/fleets.
It was such a pain in the micheal jackson's preferred action, that they introduced hostility missions.... round and round we go .

Good news Captains
Port management feature is under development and will be deployed to live servers next big patch.
-
Infrastructure development
- All clans big and small will be able to improve their controlled ports and invest into infrastructure expanding resource development.
- With enough investments the need for hauling will be completely removed from a clan, creating a cluster city which allows production of all resources (with the exception of rare woods)
-
Shipbuilding improvements
- Clans will be able to improve shipbuilding in their ports making better ships, faster ships, stronger ships tweaking the port perks to their liking
-
Fortifications improvements
- Clans and their friends will be able to develop fortifications to protect their holdings
- All current fortifications on map will be removed
For PVE server we plan to convert the map to the historical map allowing access to all ports and allowing capture through economy sabotage (without changing nations) giving partial access of this feature even on the PVE server.
Now this is cool, and worthy of posting for .

Guess the safest way from now going forward is to just not use global and nation chat.
I do think a permaban is a bit harsh but hey rules are rulkes i guess.
I had better stop posting here just in case .

If PvE had to die, what would you prefer? forced PvP or this?
I play on the PvP server but I suspect that there would be a number of players on PvE that would take an option that you seem to have overlooked, and go play something else perhaps.
Lets face it the boost in server pop from global/EU merge was short lived and they were both PvP servers. Also how many minutes do you think it would be with your suggestion until some started a campaign to enter the PvE area as they do now with rienforcement zones?
Good idea on paper but PvE and PvP people tend to be at the opposite ends of gaming thought and opinion in my experience, although perhaps i could be wrong i guess.
