Elite French Rig + Winged Out Ballast gives you 25% thickness + 36% Mast HP without any speed penalty.

Thank you. I have winged out ballast book (although I'm not sure if it's available on all ships) and as far as mods go, I like them. I'm all for mods. But they should be there to help in one way or another they shouldn't be nessecary to overcome a broken mechanic...(also they are rediculously over priced and way too hard to get)

Well there is your trade off.  Go fast and be fragile, or go slower and survivable.

    Life is full of choices....

It's not about survivability. It's about a game of demasting you don't have to sink, grape ,chain or board you just demast then do whatever from there. Was in a battle the other night in an oak frigate and got demasted by a fir endy before I could sink it. Now I did have his hull down to nothing.... That was through skill his demasting is through flawed game mechanic. He didn't even try to cover his Stern. He did not even try to avoid getting broadsided. He sailed without a care in the world because he knew he could take out my masts.

  3. Hats off to the Developers for wind and leeway mechanics. I think this has helped to slow down rage boarding that would end a battle in 90 seconds. All recent changes have been great improvements to the realism of the game and gameplay mechanics!

Sometime ago the developers introduced demasting which was very easy. It was unpopular and unrealistic and and so they made necessary tweaks which perfected it. But for some reason we went back to the old system of "Toothpick thin masts". I don't understand why we went back. Is there a better solution than keeping the current mechanic?. Would it be possible to cause the sales to stick in a tacked position (like a damaged rudder)?

There are very few flaws left in the game PVP wise but this is definitely one of them in my opinion

  4. I've heard several people say the in game model of the WASA is an accurate representaion of the real thing and of that  time period.

If this is true (I'm not an expert) then I wouldn't want it nerfed. The realizism in this game is it's soul. BUT can it not stay the same but maybe go the way of the santa cicilia? Or the rattlesnake? Couldn't the really badass ships be put in a special category and hard as heck to obtain? This way 90% of the ships in game won't all be WASA'S!

This seems like the best option. But please please please don't make "elite" ships obtainable thru PVP marks! That's rediculous.

    For immediate release! Extreme importance.

All veffels are subject to leeway but some are more leewardly than others. Captains commandeering leewardly veffels in battle must keep distance from land and shores. Strong wind will make it impossible to maneuver out and will eventually beach your ship. Captains are encouraged to use this information to their advantage and attack leewardly ships close to land when wind is blowing to shore.

Veffels lost due to beaching or grounding or captured or destroyed due to beaching and/or grounding will not be recovered or replaced by the Admiralty and Support services.

    Appendix: Ships with stronger leeway

    • All ships of the line.
    • Wasa.

The Waffa can't poffibly uncurr anything that makef it leff than a Fuperfhip!!

Wasa was built as a small 3rd Rate.

If I were a Constitution fan, I would be incensed at the fact that she gets nerfed into oblivion while a ship of the line with the exact same OW-killing stats gets a free pass.

So is a Live Oak Consti going to get the same base speed as a Teak Trinco, or is Wasa getting nerfed? Choose one.

I'm a Constitution fan. I would never take Constitution out up against a Wasa. No way to outrun , no way to out gun. No way to even stay in battle long enough to do enough damage to proof you were ever even there....this game goes above and beyond in aspects of realizism and hits the mark. Except in this area...

  7. You guys are doing a fantastic job on the realization of this game!!

I believe that the new ship Dynamics will make boarding harder which is a good thing since boarding is terribly broken. So that's a step in the right direction that will prevent someone from winning combat in under 30 seconds with crazy boarding game.

But the elephant in the room is this Wasa which is ridiculously overpowered! I would never try to take one on and expect to win in my surprise. But I jumped in when I saw one attack a US indiaman. He sank the Indiaman in less than a minute. My strategy as a support ship was to bug out if I couldn't help. But the Wasa Knows No Boundaries upwind, downwind, in between wind. Demasting can be done with your eyes closed.

As a solo player it will be impossible for me now to obtain a Wasa to battle with (and let's face it why would you sail anything else?)

    So what to do?

    what we found is this
hardcore players will always find the ways to make millions
    normal players suffer

increasing the faucet (that was cut) will not change anything for hardcore players, but will allow normal players with shorter available time to achieve things they want.
game should value player's time and we went in wrong direction in may

This is greatest post I've seen in a long time!! Hardcore players WILL always find a way to succeed. People in clans will also (via the hardcore players in the clan). The casual player and solo players need market more like pre-may wipe. Thank you for this and get ready for player base to increase again.

  9. As a fan of the smaller ships this is my pick

    USS_Enterprise_model_in_col.jpg
Enterprise is known as the third USS Enterprise (1799). It was built by Henry Spence at Baltimore, MD, in 1799. This schooner was also called "the Lucky Little Enterprise”, a 125 ton brig. USS Enterprise was changed, repaired and rebilt many times during its career between 1799 and 1823. It changed from a 12-gun schooner to a 14-gun topsail schooner and eventually to a 16-gun brig. USS Enterprise was commanded by many famous officers in the US Naval history and won many victories at various sites. To name a few, John Shaw (the Quasi-War with France), Andrew Sterett (the First Barbary War), and Stephen Decatur, Jr. (burning frigate Philadelphia).

Based on veteran hours we have no problem retaining veteran players if they start pvp and rvr.
We have problems converting new players to veteran players.

Game needs safe zones. Like real safe zones that will sustain a new guy until rank right below captain, but to make captain they have to go out into the "real world" of PVP and RVR.

Missions in safe zone should be scenario style missions (see Age of Empires)

    * Mission : accompany trade ship to Port. (Objective : trade ship must not sink or be captured) player spawns into mission with trader and attackers

    * Mission : support for battle in progress. (Objective : sink all enemy ships)

    * Mission : retrieve ship captured by pirates (Objective : bring ship back with minimal hull damage and bring pirate crew to justice. Demast ship!!)

    * Mission : retrieve ship captured by pirates at all cost. (Objective : capture ship by boarding)

    * Mission : escape! (Objective out run your attackers and escape!) Player spawns into mission mid battle with damage to his sails and minimum repair kits.

All these and more could be set up as teaching missions to prepare players for the unforgiving pvp world and help graduate players to higher experiences

  11. Hostility and map rework

    • All ports will be split into capturable and non-capturable - the amount of ports will represent gameplay difficulty on these original difficulty levels
      • Spain easy
      • Britain easy
      • USA easy
      • France medium
      • Netherlands medium
      • Pirates hard
      • Denmark hard (only 3 uncapturable ports)
      • Sweden very very very hard (only 1 uncapturable port)

Will you now make it possible to switch nation's without being stripped of everything?

if you've been paying attention recently a decent sized amount of US players joined the game and created that clan PARF, they followed that one streamer PIxie (i think).  They had a decent sized clan of 20+ players and were thriving for a couple of weeks.  I talked to one of their members yesterday and he told me that most of them, including the streamer guy Pixie, had quit.  Basically it was too difficult for them to play with the pirates owning a port just south of them.  Savannah.  They said they could not do any econ to build ships without getting ganked 24/7 and were having a very difficult time grinding up mission XP outside of CT because it was camped 24/7.  BLACK clan took this region for the explicit purpose of hunting down players outside of CT and have farmed them mercilessly over the past month or 2.

This is the new player experience.  It needs to change.

This was the case when I first started over a year ago too. I nearly quit but switched to great Britain instead..best decision.

I missed flying the stars and strips so before wipe I returned to US..... MISTAKE!

Worse there now than before. But since allied ports are gone it is stupid hard. So I switched back to GB.... I'll probably stay.... actually I have no choice because that too has been taken away unless I want to sink another 1 year of my life into leveling up again.

    lol.
This is just alt paranoia. A huge majority of new players buy this game "because ships" and don't really care about alts or rvr.
War companies will eliminate alts from your conquest.

Then why are you full steam ahead with RVR mechanics!?? The further you drift away from solo/sandbox type game the less appealung. Find a balance. Make game appealing to solo players and RVR players. It's possible, you've came so close in the past. People don't like their entire future progress and enjoyment to be in the hands of others. Sailing games are about freedom and individual triumph. I understand RVR and the appeal but don't shut out Solo's we make up more of the population than you give us credit for.

  14. I am one of the little "red headed step child's" of the game....a solo player. So of coarse the grind is more than unbearable for us solo's.

All grind is good and nessesary  EXCEPT

Ship grind needs to be relaxed or automatic open slots based on rank...example rear admiril privateer 4 auto unlocked but trinc only 3 and Sol 1

    Bring back damage exp

Perhaps finally a bone for the solo's....

If you are NOT in a clan (perk option "no clan") you cannot join a clan bit exp is X% higher

Pvp rewards should be higher and on a slide.....

Pvp battle increase xp based on number of ships you sink in that battle up to 3x the xp

  15. I Understand from developer standpoint that if you want people to keep playing the game and if you have unlocked and conquered all levels and steps in the game people put the game down.

Like it or not grind is necessary. The longer the grind the longer the interest.

So the suggestion is to keep the grind but different way

    * put All Ships on the market and make them available for sale, keep them crappy so that a person has to actually craft that ship in a good way

    * eliminate permits and other things that are redundant to ship building. It should not take playing for a month to build one ship and on the flip side you should not be able to lose that ship in under 1 minute to a rage boarding.

    * make ports unlimited if they are owned by your nation and institute a or a tariff in order to port in an Allied Nation port.

    * encourage players to build their own personal Empire of ports throughout the map.

    * decrease the nation's and have set historical alliances. Example: U.S./ French would be one faction locked as allied. You could either become a u.s. or a French player and port at either Nation. This would allow the player to fly the national flag of their choice.

    * bring back towing option at end of battle. Current system only encourages PVP to cap and sink so they can go to the next one without having to sail all the way back home with captured ship

    * please, please fix boarding

    * please fix free ports!! we the teleport option even if it has to have a cool down
