shabby only appears on NPC captured ships from time to time.
all crafted ships are superbly classed 3-5 ships (previously known as legendary) and they can only get better if the shipyard had a great day during  construction.

On the subject of shabby ships.... Will we ever be able to capture the big boys again?

If your getting boarded without firing a shot sounds like that person is doing something wrong.  We don't spawn in right on top of each other so there is still slight delay of engagements which gives you the time to fight back and try to avoid it.  Normally when you see the instant rage board it's cause some one was being a noob and got stuck in iron from the very start of the battle.

Though I do think they need to bring back leaks form Ramming as these ships were not made to ram and it could do a lot of damage to the ship.

I haven't personally been boarded in a long time. But I try my best to not enter into any boarding action. I do recall a few instances of being rage boarded by a few pirate frigates me in atrinc a d in a surprise and I think even in frigate

Actually they were used to pull also.  Sometimes if a ship got to close the rigging could get tangled.  But it wasnt that common.

From what I'm seeing in all these pictures all of the ships have had the hell beat out of them so my question is, from historical standpoint is not boarding a 4th or 5th or final step in the battle?

Boarding is historically accurate and I'm glad it's in the game, but I don't think it should be a first and only step in the battle.

Was there ever a battle in history where a ship zoomed up to another ship and boarded them and the battle was over in a minute and a half without a single Cannon shot being fired by the attacker?

I just think boarding shouldn't be possible unless defender sails are below 75% and attacking boarding party is at 100%

  4. Let's hope rage boarding does not return with this patch. Leeway I think really helped out in reducing boarding. I love the Mast fix and I think it's a good direction. Boarding however sucks. It has always sucked from the beginning and has never been right.

I do not board anyone and I do everything possible to not be boarded. It is a silly mini game that comes down to mods over skill. I would rather fight like hell for 20 minutes or even an hour and 20 minutes and lose my ship beneath the waves than going to battle and be boarded in 2 minutes and lose that way

you send AI to fight while you sail away and go afk. Battle over earn cash marks and xp by doing nothing. Dont tell me its not an exploit of the system if the owner gets everything of what the Ai achives. works perfect against Ai you can earn billion by doing nothing.

I sail solo hunt solo and I'm not in a clan so Fleet ships are pretty much all I have as backup. They are they're almost exclusively for defense (to cover my Escape if I get jumped by 3 Guys).

In this instance I did use them for attack (did I mention the other guy was fleeting a surprise? I guess you didn't read that). The guy made a lot of mistakes in battle that I capitalized on. I went in the battle thinking the only prize I would get would be sinking his surprise. Also after I sunk him he left the battle and surprise surrendered. Had he commanded surprised to attack me I'm not sure I would have made it. Oh who am I kidding of course I would have ,hell,  I'm The Sea Fox

  6. While sailing about in my store-bought Renomee with 2 Renomee in Fleet, I happened upon an Indiaman with a surprise in fleet.

My fleet ship captains apparently we're all out of rum and we're sailing like true Sailors and did a fine job banging up that big trader. I was busy taking care of the surprise but getting several shots in on the Indiaman myself, in fact I delivered the
     final deathblows that sank her.

Now captain Olaf of my fleet ship apparently landed more hits than I did so I only got an assist. No big deal captain Olaf earned that sink but I was robbed of the glory of combat news report despite my Flawless sailing abilities. I did however obtain PVP marks!

Exploit is this..... You take a fleet ship into battle against your buddy or your Alt, farm PVP all day long and never hit combat news

Towing to port later a battle is unrealistic... People should recapture the ship after battle...

The other things are nice, of course mate.

I can't argue with that. But if one goes about PVP ing and comes accross an LGV, there is nothing in that ship making it worth capturing vs sinking it for those aweful PVP marks...that is ALSO unrealistic..

Perhaps the fix would be to temporarily allow one extra fleet ship (only until Port)

Or get rid of PVP marks and make goods be worth something...not like the categena caulk type stupid expensive mats but just high value goods

That goes far, far beyond "working" fleet ships.

Not really. AI skill will never be equivalent to player skill. Fleet ships are lost very often. Stupid expensive mods would never be put on fleet ships. I think mostly all the throw away mods that everyone has about 10 each of would be put on them.

And if I am in a Renomee and have two Reno's in Fleet and I am sunken , I would like the opportunity to reappear open world in the same place in one of my two Fleet ships if they survived.... And if so I would like to chance to assign my skill slots to that ship in the battle screen....also if you don't use Fleet ships what is it to you?

Except, even that isn't quite the case.  It's not quite "make sailing solo easy."  It's "make my particular style of sailing solo easy."  Which I'm only guessing at, because many of the things he suggests tie into things that I just cannot fathom a solo player doing.  Sailing with fleet ships?  What?  They slow you down, ruin your tag, and make you fodder for any passing pair of players.

I just can't even begin to understand how he's playing where these suggestions make sense taken as a whole.  So, I want to know.

I seem to be able to tag just fine my fleet ships are mostly defensive. I'm saying I would like have something in return for spending all my perk points on fleet ships

A good for instance is I love the Renomee I sail it often but it is more of a support ship than a solo ship... If I get jumped by two or three guys if I command my fleet Mercury's to follow me and chain them then I am assured to get away.. if I am attacking a ship then I can start off with some chains slow them down enough for my Fleet ships to chain them while I repair

  10. I realize I am a solo player in an MMO game but I am not the only solo player here. solo players are in it for the Long Haul. The problem with a big groups coming into the game together is, that same big group will leave the game together. This does not happen with a solo player. I enjoy more freedom than any clan member (with the exception of clan leaders or those in the "Clump") the game is fun for me I have all the liberties and no responsibilities.

Since I am a solo player in an MMO game I would like a Little Help from the devs

As a solo player I have found fleet ships have been good asset, could definitely be better!

Fleet ships need to be fixed

The rear Admiral I give up a lot of perk points to be able to have two ships in Fleet. Without charge shot and other advantages I rely on the fleet ships. Also without a sailing partner I rely on the fleet ships

    * fix fleets to do what I say. They rarely do as ordered. it's bad enough they sail like they're drunk but I say to destroy they fire chain??

    * make grapeshot an optional command

    * make boarding an optional command

    * have crafted mods be able to alter the Fleet ships

    * bring back end of battle Towing. Was an awesome feature that is greatly missed. If I already have two ships in  fleet and capture ship I would like to have the choice to put that ship in my fleet or send it back to base. I would still be in the ocean and still be vulnerable for PVP so I don't see this as being detrimental to that.

    * switching ships at battles end and being able to setup my unlocked skills on that ship in battle screen

I can live with the behavior of the AI itself.  It was not terribly good, but it first fulfilled its purpose, at times until other priorities of the game are completed.

But they do their scripts as if they were motorboats. That had worked reasonably well with the old sail mechanics. With the new, however, no more and leads to the results we have now. It does not mean that I want to go back to the old sailing mechanic, only the pursued maneuvers of the AI should be depend to the wind direction.

Oh absolutely! The sail mechanic now is spot on! Just need to teach ai how to sail it!

When we are growing up we accumulate brain patterns. Patterns that we like and recognize and if something does not fit the pattern we think that something is wrong.

But in this case your brain pattern is wrong. Somewhere in the past you read something or played something where ships only shot at hull and that was it. Maybe it was total war or age of sail 2 where they had minimal demasting due to old tech and conservation of fps. That pattern stays and its hard to defeat it. But with time it will change. Like accepting the fact that age of sail ships could sail backwards. Or accepting demasting as one of the key tactics (which could be countered)

Demasting was one of the main tactics
    from small action
    a64MKC7.jpg

    to large 50-60 ship battles
    Fd9R4pH.jpg

We have no desire to fight with your brain pattern, but please STOP posting your ideals as facts.

    • Say it as it is: you hate (dont like) demasting,
    • dont say its unrealistic and it never happened.

    ps

You can counter demasting making it impossible, but you dont want it, because of that brain pattern. Learn to overcome it Captain and you will do better. Equip upgrades to masts, speed does not matter since couple of last patches. 4 mast upgrades slow you down but make demasting impossible, you will enjoy those battles immensely - laughing when enemies spend half an hour trying to get your masts down while you sink them all.

Don't get me wrong I love the the idea of a  demasting mechanic. It makes sense ads complexity and realism. Yes it is historically accurate and it is a critical tactic in battle.

I'm going to go ahead and claim the mantle of "the most sunken player in the game" and I dare anyone to challenge me on that lol!

As someone who has been sunk several times in every ship in almost every configuration I can tell you that yes, it was frustrating every single time but I love playing the game so much I go back build, Buy or cap another ship and go back for more! I realize there is a balance to be made between historical realism and gameplay and you developers have done a damn good job towards achieving that balance!!

My complaint is this there is no fun in being demasted but that is part of the game. What I cannot stand is being demasted in a single broadside or les than 90 seconds when up against the ship of near equal battle rating. I feel like the scimitar wielding bad guy in Indiana Jones who has the big sword and it is trained his whole life to use it but gets shot by Jones and the battle is over. Now imagine being that guy times 50! It just isn't Fun. I play the game to have fun. I don't mind going up against guys that are going to kill me and knowing from the beginning of the battle that I'm going to get sunk. I would just like the ability on a 3 to 1 gank, to take one of them with me. Or to bring a ship to the brink of sinking before I die so that that guy will think twice before messing with me again.

Demasting definitely should stay in the game but it needs work.

  13. Recently started collecting mod blueprints...I like speed so I started with crooked hull mod (for speed)

You need crooked cedar to make this  so I traveled to pitts town only to discover that the contract price there (at presumably the only Port that has it) was 75k per crooked cedar!! At a minimum of 10 pieces per bid it was going to cost nearly a million bucks to place a contract high enough (maybe) to win the 10 pieces of which I only need 5.

The problem is the same problem that has haunted this game from the beginning in my opinion...this game appeals to the individual player but to get anywhere you MUST play as a group....can I afford these million dollar mods as an individual? Not as well as clans can.
