  1. Sometimes you just gave to laugh at yourself. Sometimes you feel like such a noob you have to share it so others can laugh at you too. Kinda makes you feel like you deserved it. I deserve this one.

    So...

Yes, cast my eye over a few posts when I 1st started playing with people talking about Naval Action and EA.  I made the assumption (without much thought) that Electronic Arts had somehow gotten on board with this game, perhaps as a publisher or something. It sat in the back of my mind and just rested there.

Only today when I was typing in something about Early Access and I abbreviated it to EA did the penny drop. It dropped hard. I laughed.

    Laugh@me please. I deserve it!

  2. Time and time again we spot lone trader players who are stupid complacent enough to sail their valuable goods without taking player escort/s.  So much talk on forums about how pirates should be in smaller ships hunting traders and not capturing ports yet this mechanic & insta pop AI reinforcements counters what we in [black] try to do.  In small fast ships, solo or in 2, 3 man groups, we take risks most nights in enemy waters being hunted by larger organised and opportunistic captains so this mechanic is frustrating to say the least. Risk vs reward and all that jazz.

I agree, BR rating (as well as insta pop AI reinforcements) should be removed for trade ships.

Now I hear what ye be saying, we just want easy targets with no risk. That not be true. There's plenty player pirate hunter fleets around, and trader players are perfectly capable of hiring player escorts.  I know we in [black] always escort our traders carrying the shiny stuff.

So now it seems traders can exploit the mechanics by sailing their most valuable goods in trade cutters, knowing pirates will unlikely sail anything smaller than a privateer in enemy waters, and knowing they can never be caught. *spit* *ting* #godmode

  3. Sorry for being a noob but where can I dowmload a picture of the compass to use in overlay?

Here I mocked a better one up that's more suited to the NA compass.

Make sure you set it on zoom in the overlay and reduce the opacity.

Right click > save image as.

  4. What CPU you got?

It was an 8 core phenom II something or other.

Not to worry though, I've brought my other PC up from the office and I'm getting 110-115 FPS on medium, 80-90 FPS on High, and 60-70 FPS on Ultra.  Me is a happy boy again :D

So CPU definitely plays a big part regardless of what card you have.

    Intel® Core i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
    Memory: 32768MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 32712MB RAM
    DirectX Version: 12
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980

  5. Please check the Graphics options in the game:

Battle FPS and Open World FPS, there might be a 30 FPS limit in your settings

Yeah I checked that, I disabled both.

I have done some more tinkering and found that the bottleneck is the processor. I overclocked my processor and managed to get the frame rates up to 50-55. Did get BSOD so stopped the OC. Back down to 30fps.

Not sure if this is something that can be addressed by the devs since I can play AAA games no probs @ 60fps.

It's not a big deal tbh, 30fps is absolutely fine tbh.

  6. ((I have to admit watching someone getting captured by an afk ship/player is a new one for me ;) ))

    40K :)

AFK ships don't usually defend / attack / fire deck guns etc during boarding. It was a good trap! Having you graping my ship whilst I was capturing it was a fair and legitimate move, but me bounty stands and I be looking to claim it me self when I's not in such an under-powered rig ;)

  7. Or at least just furl up the sails and stop if you DC, but you could get back in if you reconnect. Currently in the moment you disconnect, your ship surrenders to the enemy, and you lose it instantly. Your mates can claim it back and give it back to you as a separate 1 dura ship, but its not the same and it works only if you have teammates with free time.

Oh really? Didn't know you instantly surrendered. Seems a bit harsh. Would be better if your ship just sailed on it's current course / speed giving you a chance to log back in once DC has been addressed.

  8. I'm confused about my own FPS.

I have a GTX 980, and so do two of my clannies. When I said I think the game is locked at 30fps they jumped in and said they were getting 60.  I matched my game settings to match theirs but it made no difference. I was getting 30-32 fps no matter what I did.

Recently been playing the division and getting a steady 60fps so I know it's not my card / rig.

    Totally stumped by this one.

  9. Aye, it's just one of these things. If the mechanic wasn't there, unscrupulous captains would force quit the game to avoid a death. I've lost many expensive ships in eve online to the devilish DC. Just got to curse your ISP, not the game mechanics matey.

I also play Elite Dangerous which is a peer to peer game. Force quitting when on the losing side of a battle is absolutely rife.
