Bravely Ran Away!

I, Jack Hammond of the SLRN had a most unfortunate and fairly rude interruption whilst assailing a Spanish trade brig to be pounced upon by a privateer fleet! I quickly departed and ran away- to the amusement of the men at port in St. George- who have apparently been singing this song in their taverns...

(Based upon Sir Robin's song in Monty Python: The Holy Grail)

Bravely bold Sir Hammond,
Sailed forth from St. George!
He was not afraid to die
Oh, brave Sir Hammond
He was not at all afraid
To be killed in nasty ways
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin

He was not in the least bit scared
To be mashed into a pulp by a Snow's carronades,
Or to have his eyes gouged out by flying splinters!
And his elbows broken
To have his kneecaps split
And his body burned away whilst his magazine exploded
And his limbs all hacked and mangled by grape shot,
Brave Sir Hammond!

His head smashed in by sharpshooter fire
And his heart cut out
And his liver removed by the surgeon,
And his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped
And his bottom burnt off from the fire below decks,

"That's... that's enough music for now, lads."

Brave Sir Hammond ran away!
(No!)
Bravely ran away away
(I didn't!)
When Spanish players reared it's ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled
(No!)
Yes, brave Sir Hammond tacked about!
(I didn't!)
And gallantly he chickened out

Bravely taking to his studdingsails,
(I never did!)
He beat a very brave retreat
(All lies!)
Bravest of the brave, Sir Hammond!
(I never!)

Speaking on this topic, I had a both interesting and disturbing experience yesterday. Setting sail from Bruswick, I spotted a U.S. brig with contraband by itself on a deserted sea. I immediately ran it down and attacked. In attack mode I searched a 360 degree and saw, to my surprise, four other ships wit the same idea. Well, I didn't mind sharing the spoils as pickings have bee sparse lately, so I continued my attack. By the first broadside the number of attackers had increased exponentially. Before I knew it the noise was thunderous and balls began to fill the air like a host of ping-pong balls on mousetraps. I did another 360, and there must have been 30 to 40 ships swarming around one brig like mosquitos on an Alaskan lake. No fun for me, so I sailed away and left as soon as I could. I guess we may have emptied the fridge and are all getting hungry. Maybe we need more sheep and fewer wolves.
