desphex
Was just wondering what it is with the fuel economy of ships in the game do they all secretly have nuclear reactors powering them? I mean i made a random 1921 destroyer for fun weighing in at 1280Tons on a 1567Tons Max load, with minimal range, oil fired and simple turbines as engines it reaches an average 35knots top speed. which sounds normal but even with the shortest range it has an operational range of 10.232km (5.525Nmi (Nautical Miles)) on a fuel tonnage of only 32Tons. even with an engine efficiency of 102.2% thats a 319.75km (172.66 Nmi) per Ton of Fuel oil. No matter how you look at it it's no where near realistic or even somewhat if your blind dumb and drunk kind of realistic, depending on the nation the average milage per ton of fuel ranges from around 11km(5.7Nmi) per ton of fuel for french destroyers to 22km (12.1Nmi) per ton of fuel for british destroyers of the 1920's. Also the tonnage of fuel is far off from realistic 32Tons? on average a 1920's destroyer carries in between 390 to 530 tons of fuel oil depending on the size of the destroyer and the nation it's from. Will this be adressed at some point or will we find warp engines comming soon to our ships for that additional speed and economy boost? But seriously tho would be nice to see if this could be fixed to a point that you can actualy say that it's somewhat realistic, especialy for a game like this where a lot of work has been put into to make it as good and near realistic as possible.
Admiral Donuts
They do lol. It's when they go to impulse power in battles that they start using all the coal and oil.
anonusername
I think they are still working on properly tuning the fuel efficiency improvements from tech. The factor for fuel use within battle is also *way* too high. New features always seem to come with placeholder values and only get properly balanced in the next major patch.
