There new one seems to have been a success: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2000479544/blackwake-reboot

I always wonder why Naval Action didn't try crowd funding tbh.

for kickstarter you need an company in the USA or one that registers for you. and because we dont want thousands of people having to high expectations like all the Q.Q refound lemmings after they had to unlock the newly added ship in sea trials and couldnt handle the fact that they are alpha testers. Crowd Control.

and looking back it seems it dosnt hurt NA at all.

They are, in a way, with "Early Access" pre-purchases. They already had the funds to start and they wouldn't necessarily need the pre-purchases, but they opened it to build a "testing team" of "early backers" that would like to test their game already, despite being it in a basic state. If you want you can donate extra cash and get a surprise in-game rewards (yet to be determined). So in a way it's crowd funded.

Not sure why some are defensive, or seem to feel that they need to advocate for this thread to not be taken down, i.e. that somehow this is a threat to NA.  There is ALWAYS room for more great games regardless of the niche, it only makes the community stronger.  Coming from my primary interest of WWI flight sims, age-of-sail is only a slightly larger community.

And so what if they decide to have a sea monster, their angle is decidedly, different...  Have to admit, multicrew of the ship is awesome.
