It's true... on Normal, but at that level of difficulty you're fighting the game scaling more than the battle itself anyway. And even if it's free money, free experience, it's still so small both in absolute number and relative quantity that unless you're obsessed with min-maxing opting-out does not change anything. You're trying to build a stronger army in a 3/1 battle and then use that army to fight a later battle that will most likely be 5/1 in your favor.

Your argument is nonsensical. You're trying to disparage playing on Normal, as if that makes a difference when evaluating this, but then try to say that you should only do this if you're obsessed with min-maxing, which is a thing that should be done if you're playing on a higher difficulty.

Take every gain you can at every opportunity you can.

Because what is the damn point of having a better army? Because you want your HARD battles to be easier? Then why are you fighting in a HARDER battle to make your later, already-easy (relatively speaking) battle even easier? You're only profiting because weapon loot and recruits are so abundant in Normal. I'm looking forward to see you bring that approach to Legendary and see how it play out.
