Union Campaign Crossroads Battle

Just asking for tips and tricks and wondering what's the thing with this battle? I get to deploy with three brigades out in the open and I am immediately attacked by superior forces from the north. I can barely get to cover at the same time as they do. That would be just fine on it's own, but then the confederates just pour up from my rear with ANOTHER force that outnumbers my defenders on the area. I attempted the battle three times and the only way I can avoid total and complete annihilation between these waves of utter bullsh*t is to abandon the objective and pull back to the hills as soon as the battle commences.

So how did you manage to fight that battle?

Hi Apeolis.

It's rather simple to just link a video but it's short and will show you the basics of it I think:

If you have any questions after watching, I'm all ears. And if you liked it, don't forget to subscribe :).

I've played UG:G for 50 hours so I'm not a complete noob when it comes to this game, but I had 15k confederates coming from all sides against my 9k troops. In the river crossing battle I had 15k confederates, mostly 2-star brigades defending a favourable position against my attacks. I know that this is still in development and that scaling is a thing. But just once in my life I'd like to fight a campaign battle where my forces are not totally outgunned, outclassed and outscaled. There is a difference between challenging and absolutely ridicilous. Do I actually have to powerplay through every battle in this campaign, minimizing losses, maxing xp, optimizing my career points and armoury management to absurd levels, just to stand any chance in campaigns?

To start, one brigade in the building, one brigade slightly south of them, artillery directly west and south of the building.

When you get your reinforcements, I sent two brigades north, remaining south. Hold the N-S line using the building, then put one brigade in the south group of trees to flank from and distract the AI. If you're fortunate you can push the enemy off the small clump of trees to the north and use that for better cover, otherwise anchor around the build on the E-W line also.

If you took cavalry, send it south to fight the enemy cavalry and then slip around to the east to kill their artillery.

Sounds good otherwise, but I had about 5k confeds charge me out of that farm before I even had a chance to bring my reinforcements down from the hill. On which they spent the next hour in a shooting match with a endless stream of enemy brigades. That single minor battle had twice the amount of casualties in two hours as the entire first battle of Bull Run in real life.

Hard to say what exactly is the cause without being able to watch your battle. Can you provide at least the post-battle screenshot for numbers involved? 5.5k shouldn't overwhelm 2 brigades + artillery or 3 brigades instantly, the AI is reluctant to charge without a large manpower advantage.
