Suggestion to Reduce Sailing Time in OW

I think this suggestion would solve some players concerns regarding spending too much time in OW;

 

 

The Solution is: The Gulf Stream

What I'm thinking of is fast travel point in Open Ocean at least 30 minutes real sailing time from any town, allowing player to enter the Gulf Stream with their Ship and Cargo from point A to Point B.

 

Example:

One travel point near Charleston leading to a travel point near Brunswick, if you still want to go south, 30 minutes of OW will lead you the next one near San Mateo leading to Cabo Canaveral and so on.

You would need 3 Gulf Stream Lines - One North-South East Coast, one North South West Coast and one East West (All Gulf Stream lines are bi-directional). This way you cannot fast travel from Charleston to Port Royal in one jump.

 

There should be at least 30 minutes of real sailing time between the Gulf Stream travel entry points, each Gulf Stream warp line would save the player one or two hours of real time sailing in OW.

 

This is a good compromise between the simulation and the game and is still historically accurate (for the accuracy/historically maniacs B)) since the Gulf Stream is faster near the surface at about 2.5 meters per seconds or 5.6 mph.

 

This shouldn't affect PVP or PVE, there will still be a lot of sailing in OW to do but you might be able to get from the US North East Coast to the Caribbean's in about 1.5 hrs of real time and you would still be at least 30 minutes away enough from any town when you exit the Stream.

 

The map is big enough to support this.

Great Idea! 

 

Historically Accurate and this is been done in every other MMO - faster ways to travel.

 

POTB had speed buffs that you sailed over to gain..

 

Hopefully Naval Action can do this a little more realistic and make it that you would have to sail into the stream and it would gradually accelerate the ship.  Even more interesting would be to have only a very slight visual aid to see the stream, trial and error to find it.

It's not a bad idea, but it should be somewhat difficult to find it. I would add points that would indicate stream areas (see bellow). Players have to look for them and streams should be temporary. This means once you hit it, stream timer starts counting until you loose it. Each zone should provide different timers on how long you can ride it. 

 

Points that indicate stream. 

 

Birds

Different color ocean (warmer)

Debree

 

OS speed boost x1.5
