  1. This may already have been said or mentioned.  But let have some in game titles that you can earn or some stated challenges. This may be small but i like the ideal of it. Heck you can even add small bonuses/ rewards for them.

    You can have titles for:

    1. Amount of kills for pvp/pve(of course)
    2. Demasting/boarding so many ships.
    3. Captured x amount of ships.
    4. Crafting x amount of ships
    5. Exploring x amounts of ports.
    6. Sailing form x to x in a time frame.

These can all have ranks to them too.

Go ahead and put in a title or challenge that you would like to see.

  2. Perfect information is not appropriate to this game, in my opinion.   The lack of information, prices included, is what should drive OW travel and collaboration between players.   It also introduces some luck into the world.

    * Which ports produce what can stay - this drives larger strategy around limited resources and trade routes.

    * Some price information could be provided in the Ships Letter mechanism -- "I spoke a fishing vessel off Las Aves, who said they were short of <insert goods here>"   Or, "The price of <goods> is $123 at <port>".

    * I think speculation in prices would be a good mechanic to emphasize in the game, with some simulated drivers like declared wars between nations, seasonally limited supply, blocked trade routes, etc.

didnt the dev say they might add something like this to the game like ship report letters but trade report letter instead?

  3. I completely agree with that.  I don't see where you said that before in this thread but none that less that is exactly what I am saying.  I even made a suggestion thread about it.  However, people there still think that it is some excuse to cover up a loss.  The more fighting the better.

it was not in this post but it was in older post about port battles and every one just showing up to kill towers. I for one would like to hear what the devs think. we do need a change and they have said it will change before but the masses seem to want some info on this as soon as they can.

  4. I don't believe Arbour meant it the way you took it. No one is looking for forced fair fights. I don't ever want to play a pvp game that does that. This is about no fights.

I hate to bring up the Fred's battle again because the emotion flying around that one isn't good. But it was the best example of the "no fights" game mechanic I can think of. I didn't make it to the battle. I was in route at the time listening on TS. The battle ended very quickly and was over before I got to it. However I heard it on TS. The British brought very large ships and average BR of 450 per player. The French got 18 or so into the battle in a reasonable amount of time to do something but not enough to stop it. The British were just hitting the towers while the French were hitting the British ships. The French chose to fight to the death even if they were losing the port in hopes of sinking the British Victory and some Pavels I think. This was the French plan and they were doing it as reported earlier a number of British ships were close to sinking. However, the French were denied this suicide battle of glory as the computer simply ended the fight based on BR before any of the ships had time to sink. This game mechanic prevented pvp that the players were more than willing to do.

I think the question is "What is the intent of the 2:1 BR victory condition?" Was that intent to allow a massively larger force not to have to fight a 2:.8 BR force that wanted to fight it? I'm guessing probably not. It also opens the door for a potential tactic of "PvT over pvp" by allowing an adversary to tailor a 25 man PB group that only needs to fight towers to win PB's. Now none of this says leveling is a bad thing and no one is saying opponents shouldn't be able to bring everything they can to a PB. But perhaps the computer shouldn't be ending fights at 2:1 BR. Maybe it needs to go back to 3:1 now that players are starting to get into 1st and 2nd rates.

To me that is the thing. We all talk about how there should be risk to bringing out a 1st rate. But that risk isn't really there if the computer ends the fight before a reasonable force has a chance to inflict that loss. Basically, the smaller force should be allowed to fight on to inflict losses to prevent a key ship like a 1st rate dura from getting into the next PB. Suicidng a 3rd rate to remove a 1st rate is still a tactic worthy of Lord Nelson.

That why ive stated way before this that port battles should be more like normal battles where all enemies should be sank along with the death circle so we dont have those silly runners wasting the clock.

  5. You guys are just worse since you guys have members that gang up on people as well and even make up stuff as rumors so that their reputation would sink out which is why the USA faction in PVP 2 USA is too toxic that even the moderators can't even chat ban the ones trash talking and harassing each other in public chat, might as well not do any kind of ban hammer or report function since most of the players will just get tired of the nonsense going on in most servers and not only PVP 2 USA faction but the PVP EU 1 USA faction as well and PVP 1 GB.

My friend there are always two side to a story... and USA chat was toxic from the beginning because there is always that one person who has to be the troll. and on the point of being gang up...do you want us as clan to play the game so it is fair and even for all players we fight in battle. i didn't know there was a rule for us that we had to drop down to one's playing field..

  6. I don't see anywhere, anything about fights being even.  I've only said that port battle mechanics should encourage fighting, doesn't matter if it is even.  I will agree that in other games, higher levels mean better at PvP.  But are those fights won by just showing up?  No.  I would even argue the contrary since a well handled Frigate can beat a 3rd rate, but according to BR, 3.5 Frigates are equal to a 3rd rate.  That is flat out not the case.  Battles are being decided by an arbitrary and inaccurate number, not by fighting.  This is being exploited by people and encouraging players from all factions to grind fleets, which is boring, and they are not get better at fighting cause as it stands now, if you just show up with more big ships you win without a fight.

I personally have fought countless uneven battles while on the small end, even won a fair amount of them.  I don't care.  Fighting is fun, win or lose.  Losing is not a big deal, which is surprising since it seems a lot of players are so risk-adverse that they go out of their way to avoid fighting even when they have the advantage.  PBs are not about fighting, they are about showing up.  That simple fact is discouraging players, in my opinion.  I could be wrong, but something is happening to the server population.  This is a "ship fighting game" were key battles are decided without fighting.    Get rid of your "they are just complaining cause they lost" attitude, and purpose why you think the server population has dropped by 50% in a month and this trend is still continuing.  I'd be happy to hear your input on that.  But if you are just going to posture, then gtfo.

Like you said you dont know the real reason for the major loss of population but i guarantee its not because of people just losing in a port battle. (i believe it mostly due to people getting board because over all content or the fact new games come out.)  Ive been in port battles where i was out number and out ranked but that's because my nation wasn't ready or prepared for it.  i accepted the fact that they were better because they were allowed to get better.  Yet you rant about your opinion but the moment i put in mine its wrong so get off your high horse and get in mud like the rest of us because you are not different.

  7. The problem Isn't green on green. The problem is a broken mechanic that needs to be fixed in the game, If its a ban-able problem. The people bringing this to your attention do it as well. ( they also claim to be friends with you and the rest of the dev's and admins) so forgive me for not taking them or you seriously but I have never played a game where the rules did not come with the game! The problem is I didn't know about this site until AFTER people are trying to get me banned. How can you justify rules everyone has to follow that are not posted in the game?

    https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4045-USHJ-3810

I do not see sinking of friendly vessels or green on green in those rules? I am not trying to argue I just want rules I have to follow plainly posted.

What you linked was to steam forum rules not game rules.  Here are the real in game rules posted jan 19th   .........http://steamcommunity.com/app/311310/discussions/1/458606248639534643/

  8. "Chose" is an interesting choice of words.  Do new players choose a cutter? Or is that just what they can crew?  The problem with port battles, in general, is that levels are determining the outcome, not fighting.  Think about it.  Battles are being won and lost without a ship from either side sinking.  How is that good?  How is that fun?  Who can level the quickest to get into those 3rd and 1st rates, wins ports without even having to fight.  Port battles are won and lost by PvE grinding, and who does it more before the battle.  Not a really competitive, or fun, way to do it.

This thread is supposed to be about ways to improve the game and why people are leaving.  Casgar, above, claims this has been high-jacked by French and Swedish players to complain about their current situation.  But what I see are people discussing mechanics and problems with the game, using some examples we've witnessed, and then Brits coming in and being overly defensive about these legitimate complaints.  One of the big complaints that has come up throughout this thread is that PvE is the best way to win a PvP game.  That is serious.  It is not a attack on Britain, or a "woe is me" from the French, it is a fact about the game, in it's current state, that does not bode well for it continuing to be fun for anybody, British, French, Swedish, whoever.

Not solving the "whoever levels the fastest wins the whole map" problem will turn more and more people away.  Half the population has already left.  Without changing anything, my guess is that the population will drop even more in the coming months.  Those that aren't willing to commit to 100s of hours of grinding before they can significantly have an impact will leave, and new players that have no hope to catch up will get discouraged and leave. This needs to be said and brought to light.

Now leveling is not a bad thing, but what is a bad thing is that lower tier ships mean nothing.  There is a realistic and historical reason fleets in the age of sail had multiple sizes and types of ships to fill different roles.  This game needs to bring that into the game, otherwise, in about a month, there will be only 2 types of players, those in 1st rates and those that are not.  And those not in 1st rates in a month will just quit, leaving the Caribbean filled with 1st rate captains that, in many cases, have not even sunk an enemy player once....in a PvP game.

All i see here is people being up set at higher ranks players because they pve more then you?   I can then just say the same thing about a lot of other mmos then that are still doing great.  You say you want and even pvp experience but blame it due to some one else being in a higher ship then you.   What would be the point of ranks then if every one was even pvp and sailing 1st rates ... i see ranks a goal that can assist you and being better at pvp.  In almost every mmo being a higher lvls has advantages when it comes to pvp. The benefits of being higher lvl give you access to gear that helps you in pvp.  Yeah there are games that boost you in pvp to match  other players lvls but even those dont make pvp completely even as it give those who lvl up and grind rewards for doing so.

  9. While sailing my Basic Cutter on routine trade interdiction duties on behalf of His Royal Majesty, King George III, I encountered a large American assault fleet just north of Xpu Ha on the Yucatan peninsula. The fleet was sailing south towards British territory, and their bellicose motives were self-evident.

As a loyal subject of the Crown, I immediately notified British national chat of my observations and proceeded to shadow the fleet, comprised of three Victory-class 1st rates, two Bellona-class 3rd rates, a Constitution, two Trincomalee-class 5th rates, and multiple Frigates and Surprises.

The fleet, aware of my presence, made for Xpu Ha and entered the port, leaving a single Trincomalee outside with sails down to keep an eye on me. After standing off upwind for a few minutes, me watching him, and he watching me, I observed additional USA ships sailing down from the Tumbado area to join the rest of the assault fleet in port.

Before long, I intuited that the Trincomalee was waiting for me to sail away so that he could give a signal to the rest of the fleet that it was clear to move out. In a maneuver that I can only describe as somewhat inspired, I spotted some NPC fleets just south of the port and quickly raised my own sails and maneuvered to intercept them. As I sailed in front of an NPC Constitution, blocking my Cutter's view from the Trincomalee back in Xpu Ha, I quickly dropped my sails, confident my small profile would be invisible from the port.

Within seconds of this ruse, I was proved right, as the entire US assault fleet spilled out of Xpa Ha and veritably filled the channel with their sails. I immediately raised my own sails and gave chase. The wind had shifted to my favor, so despite the fact that I was south of them, I was able to sail on a comfortable beam reach while maintaining a position well upwind of them, completely preventing them from engaging me as their square rigged ships could not sail up to reach me. And they had no fore-and-aft rigged ships to deal with such a situation.

I continued to give position and status updates to my British compatriots in national chat, where a plan of defense was quickly formulated.

As the assault fleet approached Chinchorro, the wind was shifting to the east and I moved to the head of the column to obtain a more advantageous position. Due to the nearby presence of land, this allowed one of the Surprises to engage me in battle, though I was able to bear off and ensure that he'd be nowhere near me once the battle instance loaded.

Once in the instance, I set off on a close reach and easily sailed away from the Surprise, but while doing so, the captain of one of the Victory-class ships purchased a conquest flag for Brewers - a ways south of Chinchorro. However, because of my shadowing of the fleet, and my reporting to British national chat, it was obvious to all that Brewers was almost certainly a ruse, so one of my compatriots immediately purchased a conquest flag for Asuncion - a USA port nearby Chinchorro - in the hopes of tricking the assault fleet into switching to defense.

As I dropped out of the battle instance, none the worse for wear, I saw that a rainstorm had set in. Despite the reduced visibility, I spotted sails in the distance and quickly identified one of the fleet ships I'd seen previously. They had completely reversed direction and were headed towards Congrios / Asuncion for what they thought was a counterstrike. Our plan had worked.

I continued to shadow the fleet and found them anchored off the estuary between Congrios and Asuncion, sails down, waiting for a British assault fleet that was, unbeknownst to them, never going to materialize. After sending a NavyBrig to engage me, which I again easily sailed away from, it became clear that they'd fallen for a trick and with the last few minutes of their conquest timer slipping through their fingers, they relented and dispersed.

I shadowed the three Victory-class 1st rates to what appeared to be their home port in Tumbado, exchanging a bit of goodnatured ribaldry via PM with the conquest flag holder.

Hats off to my British countrymen who, through subterfuge and misdirection, were able to completely stymie a US assault fleet, preventing a British port in the Yucatan from being lost, with no losses of their own and absolutely minimal cost.

    A lovely evening, indeed!

lol then our ruse paid off ......

  10. Set up a network, in clan. 4 people (as example of how small a grp), with outpost around the map. That's 12 ports (starting, plus destination... With use of teleportation). Plus any other ports close by...

Transportation of goods can happen later.

Just setup outposts in the primary hubs, you can get alot of coverage.

Multiple characters generally required (cross nation, which this indirectly promotes).

aww i see seem like a lot of trouble to go through but i could just be lazy ...
