  1. Thanks for your comment. It was expected.

But the answer is ... no, since - as you can read in the OP - the proposal is also aimed to the chiefs of the factions that could achieve the result with an agreement beteween them

Apart from US and Danes, I have seen every nation to have the rogue clan that decides to do what it feels like. The agreement without the devs' support is not enough.

  2. At the end of the day, I just feel that we didn't even bother trying to turn the Danes back. We could've done something with the swedes, liberated the lost territory, the British would've sent a squadron to assist, or launched attacks to the west.

My point is that we didn't try, didn't even consider it as far as I know. And now put all the blame on people playing their own game.

If the two rumours I mentioned were true (which at the time was an undeniable possibility), would relying on the British reinforcement squadron or attack be reasonable? What if US as a part of the NL alliance also pushed on the GB? They would have not come, but would be protecting their own interests (as is pretty much their "duty").

Than it leads to a choice whether a guerrilla warfare from Free Towns and Capital or admitting defeat and trying to build France as a nation that is able to chose it's own destiny (whether with GB, Dutch or Danes, or Swedes, or Spanish, or US, or Pirates).

Your group chose the former, as is your full right and I wish you only the best in your endeavours (due to the confidence in your group for being gentlemen), while other French groups chose the latter.

And honestly after the conditional surrender, we were still allied with the GB. However being called fools for not setting timers properly and demanding that we rescind our surrender does not help to build trust to rely on someone to come in the time of need.

  3. To summarize Black Friday from the eyes of the average French captain:

Facts: GB+FRA+SWE were in alliance, while NL+DEN were in alliance.

NL pushed south, met with French resistance, slowly overcame it and captured border ports. Simultaneously DEN pushed SWE and continued to northern French territories. Both nations pushed with most, if not all their clans. They coordinated it well, were dedicated and kudos to them. Since before there has not been any combined effort like this, we were caught off guard and beaten. At that time GB was fighting with pirates for Saint Nicks and Gonaives.

Conclusions from the facts: For Denmark and Netherlands to be able to push with such force as they did, their western territories were not under pressure from GB.

Rumours: 1. There has been negotiated cease fire and non agression between GB and NL+DEN that allowed them to focus on the east. 2. French called on GB to plan offensives against the Dutch and/or Danes, but were denied citing Pirates as the priority.

This recap takes into account only Black Friday and Saturday since I have noticed several interpretations of the even already.

EDIT: Deleted Spanish. I was corrected that at the time tensions with Spanish were mostly concerning only RAE and not the Spanish as a nation.

  4. Ridiculous is situation when for example i defeat other player in PVP fight and apologize for that and give him new ship. And that deal between you is all about this.

If you want to have another pvp right after and he doesnt have the ship ready you do exactly that. Or you can name your ship "Monarch of the sea" strutting seas in your full victory in being better at internet ships than the other guy for a week, until he comes back with another ship just to repeat the process until one week he does not come, because he is playing XCOM now.

  5. Just let me say what would happen, if France was not offered this reasonable deal, but let's say only the islands. France would reject the peace, fight until only Fort royale is left and the rest of 3rd rates are destroyed, this would take, let's be generous a week.

Players seeing slow destruction and frustration due to the inability to counter it, due to the current bad design of game mechanics would leave France. Some would go pirate to keep their stuff apart from outposts and keep playing. Some would just log off until the game is more developed. Few hardcore ones would stay in game and would start doing guerilla tactics and terrorist tactics as much as possible due to inability to be a threat otherwise. You would see mission ganking galore, you would see free cutters just suiciding into your constitution, since he would lose a free ship, while you would have to pay for the repairs. These tactics would drive out more players from your side, especially new players. Or you would be forced to sit around the capital and just be watching if these terrorists show up or not. Players would get bored.

Gaming unfinished mechanics too hard is not fun. Game being not fun has no people. MMO with no players cannot by a definition be fun.

  6. I realy don't understand that silly peace deal when we win this war. It's insane to return them ports.I don't like this...

If you want to just paint the world full of orange dots you don't need french, swedes danes, brits to do it. If you want to have fun, you need all those people. This is a game and people play it for 1 reason only and that is to have fun. Currently, it is not fun to be a 1 port nation. Thus, people will stop playing the game. I am not sure, if you were there, but I was there when the open world had 18 players max and it was so much not fun that even venerable Sir Caldwell was rather playing Europa Universalis.

If you really just want to paint the world orange, let me suggest paint or another program, since at least that way, it will be never wiped.

  7. History shows that resistance fighters who continue the fight against seemingly impossible odds against an oppressor who invaded their lands are hailed as heroes

citizens who meekly accept their fate are hailed as .... hrmmm ... SHEEP!

Luckily, this is a game and you don't fight for your life or security or well being. Luckily in this game is only 1 thing worth fighting for - fun.

  8. A corpse is no less honourable for being a corpse, and can even in death still serve a purpose. Are we truly better served with our path laid out before us by others? Indeed by men who appear only too-eager to question our word and our honour? Is our nation meant to achieve its place in history by serving at the whim of another?

"Greatness is a road leading towards the unknown."

    - Charles de Gaulle

I look forward to that day, sir. Salut!

The only way for a corpse to achieve its goals is if someone trips on it.

  9. while I feel a May have called you fools surely setting yourselves to at least protect some of your ports in this manner would have beneficial to all.

While we have some set late there is a good reason for this we cannot protect 24hrs a day. All weekend we have been having port battles with the Pirates we won some they won some. While your members are griping about us not helping you you didn't help yourselves we could not send ships to counter the Danes because of the timers they had set and that we were heavily engaged with the Pirate clans who had us fixed in Haiti.

Sir, I agree that gaming the system and setting weird port capture windows could have bought us some time, but in the end it didn't. You did what you had to to save Britain in Haiti. We did what we had to to save France and Sweden on Teamspeak. No more point in crying over the spilled milk. What is done is done, it is time to learn from the whole experience and to try to avoid it in the future.

  10. Sadly for those in the French nation who failed to notice recent combined arms events who was the other nation helping you then. You are fools to think that you can set the port battle timers to a time that you thought you could defend was a good idea. Why not do what every other forward thinking nation on here does and try to set times that the other nations can't steam roll through. It's rediculous that you did not even think of this and arrange port take overs between yourselfs and the Swedes so you could set timers in the north. The Swedes took most of our ports in the north then set nice prime time timers on them for the Danes to attack.

France failed to protect there southern flank by the same means surely some one could see this coming I mean really!!!!

We know how it works due to how when pre wipe back in early open world testing we were the surrounded ones in English Harbour

    Sir,

In regards to the southern part of the map, I enjoyed having attacks and counter attacks after the work. Although, I am currently a low level, I still had fun in open sea battles with Dutch captains. Every single battle I was a part of was in good mood and good humour and was courteus and polite. Not once did I have a bad experience. The set up of port timers (by both us and dutch) allowed us to have both fun in our prime times.

Also calling the French fools for the reasons above, I strongly protest and certainly hope that remark was made in temporary distress and therefore I choose to interpret it as such.

Although, some may be privy to more information, the general atmosphere in the French nation during the weekend in regards to joint operations reminds me of one absurdist play by Samuel Beckett.

So Sir, please allow us to recompose ourselves after our fall without any further derogatory remarks, as a true gentleman should.

  11. Vive la France!

    Sir,

We thank you for your public support in this war. However, as we precisely intend never to surrender to tyranny and always support the values of liberté egalité and fraternité, all major French clans accepted the peace as it was negotiated yesterday. The terms and conditions that will be posted on these forums in their due time were deemed reasonable and honorable by both parties.

I am strong enough to admit that we were defeated in this war. If we decided to pursue the war further, we would be defeated in this game. We decided against being reduced to a state that would hurt France as a nation in the long run and thus we decided to do what was neccessary for France.

    Vive la France!

  12. The negotiations took over two hours and everyone was exhausted when we finally agreed. When we came back we were ofc met with the expected disapointment from many swedish players that thaught we were now lapdogs of the danes. I think we reached a pretty good settlement considering Sweden was down to one port and no resources to craft new ships. Any swedish players dissapointed with the deal we struck, please explain wtf the problem is or stop whining.

You know the saying. It's a good compromise, if both parties are dissatisfied.

  13. I do not think they have had much of a choice, sir. How do you feel about the discussions with the Dutch?

Let's leave that for it's own thread that will inevitably come in its due time to discuss the terms and conditions. In regards to the proceedings, I personally view them as mostly correct and mostly reasonable. As most dealings with the Dutch to be honest...

  14. I think that without in-game implemented diplomacy, anything other than a "no port battles" agreement is going to be very hard to achieve. I think the deal between France and the Dutch is as solid as it's going to get. They have their territory, we have ours, we agree to fight fair port battles without really conquering any territory. Anything more than that is very hard to uphold, as you can't really force an entire nation not to attack another nations single ships or small fleets.

If any small group wishes to rebel, we can't really prevent it. But knowing the French, if a small Dutch group rebels and doesn't get aid from the bigger clans, they will pretty much be roflstomped and that's the end of it.

This. That is why convoys and escorts for traders should be planned organized and possibly remunerated, through the more dangerous areas, at least on our side.

  15. In regards to sending people to their servers accoding to the nationality. It is time to finally stop it. I had hoped this train passed with americans and them being told to leave, but alas not.

I want russians to stay on PvP as much as I want US to stay, Swedes to stay or Dutch to stay. Should devs focus on the balance of power and Port battle mechanics. No question about that. Would I even advocate disabling them entirely until the better solution is found? I would, as I think the current state hurts the game more by the exodus of players and port battles in themselves are not even that much fun.

For me as a fake Frenchman, it was not fun to see all the ports in the north lost to Danes and be unable to do anything against numbers. But I don't want them to leave in order to mitigate a serious flaw in game design.

  16. You are right gentlemen, the mechanic discussion does not belong here.

Once and again I want to congratulate to you for your victory yesterday, it was a well deserved one. For me as a proud fake Frenchman yesterday left a sting and I will try my best to avoid that feeling in the future.

I cannot speak for others, but for me personally I will not change nations, even if I only have Fort Royale, Basic cutter and stock 4 pounders left. I already have had experience of being the only Frenchie for miles.

PS: If that becomes the case, you might start reading my pleas (or QQs) to start coming in smaller ships to have fairer pvp fights :-).
