  1. Not sure there was actually much need for the Type 91. The Bismarck landed a penetrating shot on the Prince of Wales that entered the ship under the belt despite the fact that the KGV had a vertically extended belt design. Having a shell that actually detonated under the target might be useful against a DD or light cruiser, but there would probably be more damage from a penetrating shot in the case of a CA or HE shot in the case of a DD.
  2. I'd say no. No fire on a ship would burn hot enough for long enough to melt through the hull. if it did burn hot enough for long enough in the lower compartments then something like a sympathetic magazine detonation would be a far greater risk and any competent crew would flood the magazine.
  3. I was playing the "numbers don't matter" mission. My BBs were pounding away at the enemy BB. I ordered my 5 x DDs to attack the enemy BB but they stubbornly refused to do a coordinated torpedo run on the enemy battleship. Just refused. Eventually I set them to screen by BBs and they did a great job, totally preventing the enemy DDs from firing torpedoes at my battleships. Is it possible to order a DD flotilla to detach from the main force & carry out a coordinated torpedo run? Am I missing something?
  4. Well this is strange: when I use the start menu shortcut to open the game it works perfectly, but doesn't work when I use the desktop shortcut. Ah well, at least I can play now.
  5. Nice! Personally I'm looking forwards to building an Admiral class BC that has the armour scheme it should have had by 1941.
  6. Larger guns were generally better, both in terms of penetration and range. The fact that the larger guns in the game appear to be more accurate may be a product of the fact that accuracy appears to be a function of range to target versus maximum firing range, thus larger caliber guns that have very large maximum ranges are getting better accuracy at typical engagement ranges. I also think the historical balancing factors for huge caliber guns - weight of the guns turrets and mounts and also production time and cost - aren't really relevant to the game as it is now. I imagine that cost in particular may well be a factor when we get the campaign because trying to have a fleet with 10 x Yamatos should be prohibitively expensive. All that being said, it'd be nice if some of the guns are 'anomalously' accurate e.g. the British BL-15/42 and the US 16/50 caliber.
  7. I'm also having the same issue. Unfortunately using the work around posted above doesn't solve the issue. Can't play the game at all as it is now.
