  1. I just played both Gaines Mill and Malvern hill and received pretty smashing victories on both. I have everything under control as CSA on normal difficulty at last. I maxed out politics with my career points first so I had sufficient income, Army size is good, now I am working on getting better weapons to my troops.
  2. I am about to start Gaine's Mill and I am bringing 43k infantry and 65 guns on the CSA side. I am very curious if that's enough to win there. Attrition rate amongst the officers has been extreme.
  3. Thank you guys for the tip on the brigade quality. I didn't realize that high LTCs and above automatically yield one star for the brigade! I just survived Shiloh with a draw, which I'll take considering how many troops the enemy had. I think I got it under control now!
  4. I don't get the veterancy. All my brigades I create have 0 stars like all the ones I did in Union. I am trying to make as many brigades as I can with about 1250 per for now. Still badly outnumbered with green troops with bad guns because air can't afford rifles. This seems unwinnable.
  5. How am I supposed to play CSA on brigadier general difficulty? in every battle I am getting absolutely steamrolled by the Union. They have more brigades and way more men in each and there is nothing I can do to stop them. I BARELY won at Bull Run and I am dreading Shiloh. I don't see how this is winnable with the massive Union numerical superiority
  6. I just blew out the CSA at Chancellorsville too. I routed, captured or killed 100% of the enemy forces. The battle ended because they had 0 troops left on the field. I definitely need to up the difficulty level!
  7. Granted, I just bought this game two weeks ago and I am playing on "colonel" difficulty, but this seems pretty ridiculous. Am I really good, or is the AI really dumbed-down on easy difficulty? I have yet to lose a battle.
  8. Lorenz has not been added to the original post yet.
  9. I currently have 20 gun units. What is the largest battery size I can have before I start losing efficiency? Is it 12 or 16 guns?
  10. I started my first campaign as a colonel and I decided to move myself to a brigade, and then a division once I made brigadier general. I was wounded at Shiloh and it was a stark reminder of the dangers of field command! Fortunately I have recovered and am back at the helm of first division, but how long will it last?
  11. Lorenz is probably best bang for buck. Excellent gun.
  12. I just played Malvern Hill and inflicted nearly 20000 casualties on the Comfederates. Several of my 3" ordnance batteries had over 1000 kills each.
  13. Also have been progressingly increasing my battery sizes to 20 guns. What in your opinion is the ideal battery size? If it's less than 20, I'll let attrition slowly bring the numbers down to where you think it should be. Is there any effect on ammo consumption with smaller battery sizes? Right my my ordnance batteries are eating through ammo so fast at 20 guns I am having trouble keeping them supplied.
  14. Thanks Soldier. I just read your guide about the artillery. Basically with the ordnance cannons I should avoid ranges that fire the solid shot and get them into shell range whenever possible. Also, should I avoid engaging enemy artillery with these? I was using them against an enemy artillery battery at long range today and found I was only killing 2-4 in the other battery with each salvo. Perhaps these cannons should be used solely against infantry formations?
  15. When they're the taken off the field is there an effect on the troops? I always thought having your corps commander radius on your units adds some sort of benefit. Is this benefit real or imagined? If it's real, if the commander is deleted does that put the enemy troops at some sort of disadvantage?
  16. I am currently at Gaines Mill battle as Union and the majority of my artillery batteries are equipped with the 10pdr ordnance rifle. I made the decision to this cannon for consistency and uniformity rather than having an educated opinion on what's best. Is the 10pdr Ordnance a good choice for me at this point in the war? I've been more focused with getting the 1842 Springfields out of my infantry brigades than anything else but I will spend money on cannons if my ordnance guns are a poor choice!
  17. Today I was playing Gaines Mill as Union and the corps commander unit of A P Hill got ambushed by one of my brigades hiding in cover. AP Hill's icon disappeared and all of his mounted troops slowly faded away and disappeared off the map after the second the volley from my brigade. my question is, what happened to him? Did he die? Is he permanently removed from the game for the duration of the war? Clearly I destroyed the unit, but I am curious what effect that has on the battle and the campaign as a whole.
  18. What you see here is my entire army, I have no additional money to recruit 13!! more brigades! Up to this point my battles did not require massive amounts of troops. How do I proceed here? As I see it now, I cannot continue my campaign here which stinks because I have invested quite a few hours into this.
