  1. You can actually bring down a mast with shots below the deck and hitting the mast base under the weather deck.

I have brought down the masts on a NPC Trader Brig by shooting through the stern of the ship at the same level as the stern chasers.   I aimed right between them and 2 or 3 broadsides later from a Trincomalee with long guns, I took the main mast down.

    Nnnnnnnot really.

The United States outlawed the Transatlantic Slave Trade several years before the war began.

The slave population in the U.S. was pretty much self-sustaining, and importing new slaves was viewed as either immoral or simply a threat to public order because of uprisings.

    Interesting.

From my understanding they were still seeing slaves come into the country through "other" sources.  And slaves that were near British colonies would escape to freedom under British rule.  The British also used freed slaves as Royal Colonial Marines, in the Caribbean due to the out break of malaria and other "tropical" diseases that crippled the typical European born Royal Marine.

One such case was Negro Fort in Florida.  Which was comprised of mostly freed slaves turned Colonial Marine.   The US Navy fired on the fort and hit the magazine, killing most of the inhabitants and several local Seminole people.  The outcome kind of lead to the 1st Seminole War...

  3. While I dont condone whaling in modern times, I am also fully understanding that it was a MAJOR part of the 19th century economy.  Whale oil accounted for a huge part of the economy for the French, Dutch, and British.

Hitting whaling ships was the basis for the book, "Master and Commander, Far side of the World" As the USS Essex was attacking British whaling vessels while disguised as a whaling ship itself in the Pacific.   The HMS Surprise was dispatched to stop it.

As for slavery.  No... the British had outlawed it by the 19th century.  The War of 1812 actually was partially about that.  The British were intercepting slave ships headed to the Americas, and setting the slaves free.   Thus crippling the US, Dutch and Spanish economy.

I feel like the scimitar wielding bad guy in Indiana Jones who has the big sword and it is trained his whole life to use it but gets shot by Jones and the battle is over.

Demasting definitely should stay in the game but it needs work.

OT- Funny note about that scene.

Harrison Ford did that because he couldn't get the choreography right for the fight scene.  So on a whim he just shot the guy, and it was a wrap.  The director went with that take because he felt that is what Indy would have done.

  5. As someone else said in another thread, gun accuracy is the issue, not the damage they do or the thickness of masts.  Right now we have guns that can be fired like they are being shot out of a gun on the Leopard 2E tank.

Most masts fell back in the day due to stays and lines being shot out, not to direct mast hits.   Hence why chain and bar shot was so dangerous.   The French would intentionally give up the wind t get elevation to fire into the masts and rigging of the enemy ship.

Right now you dont need to give up the wind to shoot up into the rigging of another ship.  You you dont have to use battle sails because ships are to stable at full sails and the damage done to the masts under full sail is the same as the damage done under battle sails.

My suggestion is reduced damage to masts or increased resistance to masts while at battle sails.

  6. While leeway is real.. it doesnt feel like a ship leeway on water, but leeway on ice.

Having spent a lot of time on ice, I can say it feels more like that than anything on the open sea.

More so in the unrateds like the 6th and 7th rates.   But the 5th rates and bigger dont feel as bad.

Granted I am whipping a Trincomalee around like a US Navy Destroyer, which has maneuvering jets to help it turn.

  7. Two problems with this.

1- Captains back then didnt have the money to expend on practice targets.

2- You can always use NPC trade ships as practice targets... that is what I do.  They sail straight most of the time, they will fire back but pick an easy target like a trader brig or a trader snow, and sit behind it.

No it is not from a website. It is part of my live. And as I said, evryone should find there own point.

And yes it is a game and not real life. But I actually think it is one of the strong side of the game, that we have this forum. How many game do you know where players have so much room to say what they want as in this game, without of getting a Ban.

Most of the sandboxes that I play in.... I could list them but that would be considered advertising.

    You don't do that IRL.

You would end up sailing in circles.

Leeway does not change the heading of the bow.

What about trimming of the sails?

  9. Staun, you are right.. and that story is actually from a website... I have read the article too...

In short it says for every happy employee who says nothing and leaves, you have 1 loud employee who says everything and leaves...  When all you had to do as an employer was just make a minor change to keep the happy employee, and possibly attract more like them.

But this is not a job... this is a game, a game being designed by the developer for his own entertainment.   While he makes some poor choices they are for his game.   If you dont like it you can always do like many others have done and leave.

I dont think it matters to the ADMIN any.

    Can confirm.

On another note, can we pass an official act of parliament censuring everyone who wines about not being able to loot NPCs?

    1. Don't tag near the shore. (Seriously, most NPC routes are 5 minute's sail away from the beach at least.)
    2. Don't tag near the shore.
    3. If you absolutely must tag near shore, sail away from the shore so the NPCs follow you like a line of cute little ducklings.
    4. Profit.

This is not some sort of heroic effort we're talking about here.

By the way, the favored method of getting yourself un-beached was waiting for high tide. Which is to say, press the Leave Button to engage time compression.

And if you are beached during high tide... well congrats you are now in the Army.

As I know server have limit to 2500 players.

Does this mean that more than 2500 players will never be in this game?

Could you explain me why the server has the name Caribbean?

Does this mean that there will be other game servers, but with different game locations? For example Mediterranean.

To be honest when was the last time you saw 2500 players in this game?   For that matter when was the last time you saw 1250 players?

Battle sails currently are hardly viable with the new sailing mechanics because your ship loses so much speed, acceleration and manual sail turning that you might as well just surrender.

I suggest everyone try to do one PVE battle using battle sails. You'll see what I'm talking about. It is utterly pointless to go battle sails now.
It wasn't like this before the patch. Not at all.

    So much for realism....

  13. Quite frankly all of the ships need to be adjusted.

Pirate frigate is the same BR as an Essex... yet the Essex is nerfed to no end...

Constitution is a joke compared to the real life version...

Noticing a trend here of nerfing American ships....

Navy Brig/Brig (Fair American) is a joke when sailed next to the Snow.

Niagara is an over rated row boat with those low hull sides.

The Lynx... is about the only one that is correct.

    • Next day port battles will be partially abandoned. Majority of port battles will start the same day from the hostility generation.
      • If you raise hostility before the defense timer port battle will start during the defense timer (which sometimes mean immediately)
        • you raise hostility at 2pm UTC
        • defense timer is at 4-6pm UTC
        • Port battle will start today at 4pm UTC
          • if you raise hostility to 100 from 4 to 6 port battle will start immediately
      • if you raise hostility after the defense timer port battle will start the next day during the defense timer
        • you raise hostility at 8pm UTC
        • defense timer is at 4-6pm UTC
        • port battle will start at 4pm UTC the next day

TLDR: One world - one pvp server.

    Discuss.

Never answered Hodo's question about explaining this part.
