no, the old one in the early days. where you needed carriages and tar and different type of ship planks for instance and such things. it was more or less a 2 day job where one or more people where crafting the parts and one then could build the ship (because of not so much labor hours available).

Many thanks for grabbing this old screenshot :)

    I LOVED it !

When i came to NA and dived into crafting, such a system was all i was expecting from an Open World Sandbox MMO

Sounded near perfect to me and i never understood why it was replaced for a watered down, randomized system... :(

Dont make it so difficult for the Devs, Guys :P

I GUESS, most of the Community would had been utterly happy with another Frigate already in the game, fleshed out and polished, the DIANA !! :)

    ...or even the SANTA CECILIA

They are already in the game, but NOT craftable...so why didnt they went for those ?

Would had been WinWin and saved a lot of salt :)

You are free to remove your „like“ under every posting any time you want to. If the likes admin got for his praise of the Trinco aren‘t removed yet it is probably because people don’t want them removed, I guess.

Out of sarcasm, do not try to justify your opinion, however valid it is, by denigration of all other people. If you are a pro let be it. If others are not, let it so. Play and play more. If not, silence is enough. It is a game after all. And a gift is a gift. Yacht, Pandora, Trinc, all the single ships gifted along the years, etc. Pretty cool that some games do that.

The Beautiful Trincomalee. The ultimate chase ship.

    kLLWtub.png

    • Trincomalee was built in from Teak in India by the master shipbuilder Jamshoot Wadia
    • Wadia Group is still operating in India and owns multiple businesses including an airline and a cricket team
    • Trincomalee blueprints were stolen from HMS Java by USS Constitution
    • HMS Java was originally French sailing under name of "Renommee"
    • Trincomalee was built based on the Leda Class designs
    • Leda class design was based on the French ship "Hebe"
    • Hebe was captured in combat by HMS Rainbow which was the first combat use of the Carronades
    • Hebe was designed by Jacques Sane
    • Sane also designed the Ocean, Duguay-Trouin, the Redoutable. A lot of ships at Trafalgar were designed by Sane
    • Trincomalee was a training ship alongside HMS Implacable. Implacable was at Trafalgar under the name Duguay-Trouin
    • Trincomalee operated till 1986
    • These days Trincomalee is the oldest British warship afloat!
    • Teak needs to be buffed we think.

By the way, it was a really smart (???) move by you, @admin, to NOT announce in the OP that the Trinco will be our free DLC ship and just praise her in general...grabbing all those likes...

If you had announced in the OP that her would be the one...i strongly guess, the likes and dislikes would be much different... :P

Its sometimes seriously strange to see, how you "outmaneuver" the peoples ability to "vote" here in the forums (why not much more often use a Poll by you yourself ???) and treat us like small childs...and afterwards you wonder why the people stomp with their feets on Steam Reviews...which you cant moderate :(

The Tricomalee is a really good 5th rate and I really like sailing her (5 knowledge slots open) but she's not really useful in most larger PvP groups, where bigger ships are more wanted. She's great for hunting solo though and can beat a redoutable if you play your game correctly.

@admin Please don't be mad at me for writing this, but you are not very good at managing expectations, which causes upsets with the community (or at least large parts of it). I will try to objectively explain why many (not all, of course) players are unhappy about the trinco DLC announcement and give a suggestion on how to avoid bad feelings in the future.

Objectively nobody has a right to be mad about getting a ship for free. Obviously, your announcement to give out a ship worth 40-50€ as compensation for reducing the price of the game was appreciated by nearly everyone. The problem with this is the clear statement of a price tag. The only comparison players had for the price tag were the existing DLCs.  Compared to 4th rate DLC ships (~34€) and the redoutable (42€) a price/worth of 40€-50€ produced an expectation that the free ship would either be a really strong 4th rate (which would have been a problem due to being the strongest ship in her rate) or another 3rd rate. Since you announced at some point that you wanted 3rd rates to be among the most commonly sailed ships, that was the more widely expected option. Combined with the denial of making the admiral de ruyter craftable (which also upset many due to going back on a promise - again expectations - ) many probably hoped the admiral de ruyter would be the freeLC ship. The Ruyter is a really nice ship with a different focus than the redoutable but currently impossible to earn and therefore never seen on open world due to being a collector item. Giving it out to everyone would have been a really nice gesture and given more variety to the server as people could choose between the sturdier redoutable and the faster and better armed but squishier ruyter.

Instead a nice but already existing ship was chosen. This offers no real additional value to most, as it is already available in game for a very low price (100-200k really, I.e. nearly for free of you play actively). Since the Trinco is a 5th rate, a price tag of 40€ also seems off, compared to the prices of other DLC ships and the expectations people derived from those prices. So people are obviously disappointed because they expected more.

Technically you did what you promised, but technically you could also have chosen the pickle (as an extreme example of a ship that was not expected for the compensation) as the free ship and slapped a 45€ price tag on it, since you are making the prices and just need valve's approval (which they will probably give since they earn their share on every sale).

The one thing I actually fear is that you will also get a lot of negative reviews on the Trico DLC, going in the direction of "don't spend money, get it in-game", "get a bigger ship for a lower price with rattvisän" etc. This would be sad as the Trinco is one of my favourite ships.

So all in all it is still nice of you to give a freeLC as compensation to everyone. However you should try to read your own announcements from a player's perspective and write in a way that major misunderstandings and high expectations are avoided. I know you always say "expect the worst". But always expecting the worst when being told you'd receive something (patch, gift, content) is a mood killer, not fun and generally not in the human nature. And after all we are all in this great game to have fun and care deeply for Naval Action, which is why we are so critical of your decisions.

Thanks for reading this rather long post and good night.

    Mormegil

    So much this +1.000

I think, you speak for the most part of the community, atleast those who supported this game by hundreds of bucks and understands the underlying mechanics...

Maybe, some of the by @admin so often called out "silent majority" would be happy also about the Trinco, but most of them i guess woukdnt even understand that the Trinco is by far the worsest choice because they may not even have passed the Final Exams are are those who redeem DLC ships always with Fir/Crew Space... :P

...as a Game Designer, who cares for the game, you really shouldnt listen at those poeple...

  6. Fix the Open World Speed

In Combat we have this very detailed sailing profile for every ship, including wind attack angle, wood types, upgrades and books ! Its all there already in the game

    • just multiply this very well worked out Model with the given factor for Open World regarding the wind attack angle
    • when you have fleet ships, the slowest ship for the given wind attack angle sets up the speed for the whole fleet
    • when you took a Wind Boost, just multiply the above made calculation with the given factor
    • DONE ! :)
    • now its broken !!! :(

    Thanks

Good idea about this auto redeem.

Magick, i realy dont think someone would do this intentionally. He might be an unexpirienced player or just being dump. I mean he dont have highest rank.

Oh no, sadly he knew exactly what he did: he was pissed because he lost the 1vs1 and he wanted revenge in the form of denying me my Medals...when Server was about to shut down, he laughed at me in battle chat...

Low move by him, but sadly this game brings by some people the worst out of them

Therefore it would be much better, when game rules just wouldnt promote those behavior but prevent it with the suggested auto-claim f.e. by the OP

You are so right. The PvP zone rewards should be automatically redeemed. I just made the proposal in the thread about combat changes where Devs count the votes. Make sure you vote there. I don’t know if they read other suggestion threads regularly.

Good move by you...already done :)

  9. Thank you mate for bringing this topic to discussion :)

As it was expected, official response stated, there was no griefing and maybe its correct by the law...

But when you look what happened, it sounds weird at the second look:

    - i defeated a Player

    - because he was sunk, he gets immediatley teleported to Port

    - so he could redeem his rewards for a LOST battle

    - but because me, the winner, had to sail back to the Port and gets awaited by the SAME player in a new ship right outside the port, the reward for WINNING the battle is rejected to me...

In the end, loosing the battle gave him much more reward than me, who won the battle...weird consequences of game mechanics we all know :P

  10. Griefer: Russian Player "seabull"

    What happened:

I beated @seabull in todays Patrol Zone 4 mins before maintenance in his Hercules

I sailed back to Shroud Cay and had only 1 min left when i nearly reached Port to redeem my Combat Marks

...in this moment, i noticed  a Russian Herc just had left Port

He sailed towards me and attacked me few seconds before maintenance just right outside the port

When Battle started, i noticed it was the same player, i just sunk

Servertime was aready past maintenance at this time

Proof: Screenshot from 12:00:19 (my timezone is UTC +1 Amsterdam, Berlin)

Notice: Damage to my Le Requin lasted from last engagment

So when Battle started, it was already seconds AFTER maintenance started and he knew this !

His ONLY intention with this attack was, to deny me the redeeming of my Combat Marks !

He had NO intention at all to damage or sink me because there was no time for this

This i call griefing inside the rules of the game

Right, am I the only one who thinks adding more nations is a bad idea?  Some nations are already spread thin, others non existent (see Poland).

Addressing the issue of adding China to the game.  The whole realism debate aside, seeing that 25% of of the playerbase is from China (and who else would play China in a game such as this other than the Chinese), imagine how dominant they will be in game.

25% all in one nation with the remaining 75% split along 11 nations, 10. if you remove Poland.  We'll see the same issue we see now with Russia absolutely dominating the game map, see image below of distribution of ports per nation.

The only way that level of domination would be through in game forced diplomacy, not the wishy washy diplomacy that we see now where even within individual nations certain clans/individuals do their own thing and ignore diplomatic relations.

So if you do add China, what I would like to see is an in game, enforced diplomacy to help counteract one nation dominance.  All voted for based on active players in a nation, regardless of clans.

    For instance:

Alliance:  Nations in an alliance cannot attack each other in PVP (PVE is still allowed), all ships (warship or traders) can enter each others ports, and forts of an allied nation will not attack you if you're doing PVE.  Can be dissolved by either side by popular vote of either nations player base.  Leads to a temp NAP between nations for a short period of time, after which it goes to neutral.  If a third party declares war on one of the nations involved, the other nation is NOT dragged into the war automatically, but can vote on it.  If they vote against joining the war, the alliance is dissolved and the two nations cannot enter an alliance or NAP/trade agreement for a period of time.

Non Aggression pact/Trade Agreement:  Players cannot attack each others traders, but only traders can enter each others ports.  PVP between warships is allowed and is recorded by the game for all players of the respective nations to see.  Can be dissolved/enacted by vote, or if enough PVP action occurs then it will go straight to war.

Neutral:  All interactions between players are open, but cannot take hostility missions against another nation.  Raids can still be done though, but with a cooldown.

War:  Hostility missions become available, raids can be carried out whenever, traders cannot enter enemy ports, and if player has assets in an enemy port, they are seized and given to the ports controlling clan.

Clans still have a good amount of power (investments, port control, better organization), but now one clan can't just mess around with diplomacy as easily as before, and one nation dominance will be easier to counteract.  The PVP zone is not affected at all by nation diplomacy.

Edit:  A diplomacy feature would also improve the new player experience, as they'll know who is friendly and where they can go (relatively) safely.

    tempsnip.png

TL/DR:  If China is added they will dominate the game even harder than the Russians are right now.  An ingame diplomacy feature would be required to create meaningful interactions between nations that aren't at risk of being ruined due to one clan/individuals issues.

    Great suggestion you made +1

Looks to me very well fleshed out :)

But i could live even with the reimplantation of the old voting system we already had in place in EA !

Was much much better than the backdoor and dark chambers "diplomacy" we face now...and the Prolific Forger DLC makes todays way even worser

Nope, we lost our Battle at Belize DESPITE killing ALL Indiamens long before the circle and even some of the Oceans...but there were just too many of them and they didnt cared for us (as expected) and just sailed in a straight line to the Zones...

When the remaining Oceans reached the zones, the points were running hot and we lost in no time

Okay, because we started far from a full fleet, many of us have the impression that its doable with a full fleet of 1st Rates but i have my doubts that you can sink enoughas long as the Raiders do always start with the best wind and just ignore you and going in a straight line...

But when @admin stated that there might be a Bug with the points for the Oceans then it might be enough to just adjust the points ?

But i for myself would advocate more interesting battles in which the NPC would really try to fight you instead just sailing past you !

Production (digging and growing) costs are fixed at reasonable low price and their supply does not end.
This makes the too expensive ships problem player driven. But its a sandbox so there is no problem.
No-one -wants to make ships at cost (which is low) and sell them at 10-30% margin.
In addition to that captured ships are free. Which further increases supply of ships - but does not lower the price - which means that there is just too much money

    which needs to be addressed.

@admin, completly disagree about too much money !

We had those deflation times often in the past and the only what it does was hurting the already poorer and fresh players... :(

There are many costs in the game, Repairs, Rum, Crew, cannons, which are essentially for sailing even in the most basic way...if you take money away from players, those prices will stay the same and many people will begin to starve...

Sorry, i dont get this (stupid) argument "take away money from players and ship get cheaper"...yeah, but you forget that players have then also much less money :P

What do you want to win with this ? The ratio will stay the same but you will only hurt your newer players and casual ones...

I dont see a problem with ships being more expensive if they get sold ??? The market prices are already dropping in some ports below the real costs...

Pls dont interfere always in your market system, you will only destabilize everything !!!

    1. correct - labor hour generation is not affect by anything - it is a constant regeneration rate. (iirc, currently it is 100 labor hours an hour)

    2. correct, increasing your crafting rank increase the labor hour wallet maximum, nothing else. example Crafting rank 1 has 1,000 LH wallet, whereas crafting rank 4 has 2,134 LH wallet maximum.

Perfect answer mate, many thanks :)

...and btw, with your answer you mopped up the floor from all those wrong assumptions floating around...

  15. 1 hour ago, Red Tail said:

as far as i remember old system had 42LH generated per 1 real life our. And then they have changed it to 72 (? that one should be checked.) so the new players has their wallet refiled way faster.
Also - there is perks that gives you a bigger LH wallet and LH generation.

Before the wipe/release I was filling my 3k wallet ~1.5-2 days.

A system like this i had also in my mind but didnt remembered the raw numbers...thank you for sharing this info :)

So to summarize for a complete understanding

    - Your LH generation per hour/day does NOT get affetced by either your rank nor your crafting rank...

    - The only thing which is changed by your rank, is your WALLET aka the number of LHs you can allocate...

    Is this true ???

  16. 7 hours ago, Atreides said:

You character's Navy rank is irrelevant.

Thanks to both of you...BUT i just created a brand new char (no crafting rank, no Captains rank) and he can store at maximum 1.000 LHs...but i have the very strong impression that he refills those 1.000 several times, e.g. 3 times, per day... Have to look on my watch the next time, he is empty

  17. Hi Guys :)

    Simple Question:

What affects the LH GENERATION per Day  (...NOT the maximum WALLET !!) ??? 😉

    - your Captains Rank ?

    - or your Crafting Rank ?

    - or neither of both ??

Or could it be that you get every Day the same amount no matter whether you are lowest or highest rank ?

I know, lower Captain Ranks are capped at lower WALLETS than higher ones, but that doesnt mean, you get lesser LHs/Day... :P

...and i am fully aware of the 2 Perks you can choose to bolster your Generation and your Wallet, but i am not speaking of those...

    Cheers and thanks

    >Chinese invasion is under consideration
On one hand - historacally "approximately" accurate game

On another one - something that will unite some group of players under one flag.
What could unite them - separate nation? clan? or just a single battle group?

First thing that come in minds - adding another nation. Sounds good - more ppls probably will be happy to join but what other options we have?
How about adding alliances, diplomacy and clan flags. So its some sort of extending this idea
    >Have 5 factions that the 11+ nations
So, right now we have 11 nations, each one has many clans in it.

How about to add clan flags (some soft of nation flag + custom flag). Each nation is in war with other as it is right now (thats another story). But each clan inside the nation could declare war vs another clan (eg clan wars that some one was asking about). So, clan > nation. Probably later on we could add easy to switch between nations for some clans (only for those who has DLC and has more than X players {100? at least}). Plus we could add some kind of lore here - default{template with inserted clan flag and name in it} message comes by email ingame for all players informing that some major clan swore an oath to some king/queen etc because that's a key change moment and will affect balance in the word - probably we want to inform everyone. To prevent switch back and forth adding a cooldown sounds good. Mb even NPC PBs are set on all their ports to prevent switching too offten and make them pay for such move (logic of that should be disscussed), like forcing the nation to revange for such move and keep those ports inside the nation.

So, some specific group of ppls (like Chinese - could create their own clan under some nation, lets say RE and then just add their own flag*) could unite under specific clan and flag.
*Clan flag. Should fit some standarts like - clearly visible that its belongs to specific nation. Mb even flags in OW to determinate wich clan player belongs to :^)

Well, at least something to think about.

Game will stay historically accurate and those ppls who wants could unite under unique flag and clan

Cant DISAGREE more to any of your points ! - 1.000 :(

Even now, we have a too strong focus on clans (above nations) and you want even more of it ??? Cant believe what i an reading...

Could be only understandable from a russian nation supremacy standpoint: if Chinese Nation would be added, Russian Nation would lose one of its biggest clans and nobody knows how many more players...bad for Russia but good for rest of us :P

@rediii, dont understand why the suggestion of OP would remove RvR ?

I think, it would be contrary:

Think about, then also Port Battles with lower BR would be mandatory to get to the Capital...and those lower BR Battles put much easier to fill for smaller clans/nations, then fielding a 25 1st rate Port Battle Fleet...

So in the end, i would say, we would see MORE RvR :)

    Hi captains,

I was thinking in the count of kills in pvp missions and i think that actual system give an unjustified bonus to the gankers. For example, if someone sinks a player in a 1vs1 battle, their mission count increases by 1, and if a fleet of 10 players sinks 1 player, whoever has the kill will have the same reward and probably only make 15 percent of damage in an absurd battle.
That is why I think the system should change to one that does not count the kill, counting only the percentage of damage: if you do 100 percent the count increases by 1, if you do 10 percent your count increases by 0.1, regardless if you have or not the kill.

Thx for your time and comments, Despe loves u :D

So a port with 4 minor ports will have the timers:

    7-11

How long will it take a nation to be able to attack that county capital? :P

And? Whats the problem ? :P

Then you just need some time to CONQUER a Port and the defending nation has also time to react with a good defensive strategy/making alliances and so on...

Taking a Capital should be a matter of week(s) and not of 2 days like it is now
