Sad that you walked back even the ship and book knowledge retention. I can't honestly think this is in any way a good idea as even those testers that have stuck with you after walking back the previous promise at Early Access release of rank and crafting xp being safe, are now hung out to dry.  😣

I expect that there will be plenty of new negative reviews and I know of at least a couple people that will be leaving the game after this from our clan. And what does it accomplish besides yet more negative publicity just before launch?

They're gonna get 50,000 new players, didn't you know. The people that have played an alpha with constant wipes for 2 years were never going to stay. It's the players that join a release product they buy in a sale which stick around. Duh.

    5 ports + County Capital

    Seriously? https://na-map.netlify.com/

    Salamanca: 6 + capital

All counties in the gulf region, apart from Nouvelle-Orléans and San Marcos have 5 ports + capital. That's 7 counties. Plus, for example: Black River, Cumaná, Portobelo, Matina, Puerto Plata, ...

I gotta be honest, I only looked at capital regions (i mentioned county capital/capital meaning the county capital which is the capital of the nation, not county capital, as they are the unconquerable capital county region as is being asked for Mantua) so apologies on my part for my laziness in explaining. I can understand how the mixup happened as "/" is typically used as "or". My apologies for any confusion. I could go back and edit it to make it clearer, but will leave it for people to understand context for the chain here.

Nice to know there are a bunch of regions with heaps of ports though :)

IF THINGS REMAIN AS IS - I will withdraw my questioning and agree with the above people asking for it to return. Mantua should go back to the Spanish ONLY if things remain as they are in regards to the secondary unconquerable territories. This would place them on a more level footing for unconquerable ports with the other historical major powers in the map areas (GB, US, France).

    GB  6 + capital

    US 7 + capital

    France 6 + capital

Spain 5 + Capital (With Mantua)

    Pirates 3 + Capital

    Danes 1 + Capital

    Swedes 1 + Capital

    Dutch 3 + Capital

However, do keep in mind the OP was asking to make the additional non-capital counties capturable. This would make Spain the leader even without Mantua, and again would be grounds to NOT return Mantua to Spain IMO.

    GB 3 + Capital

    US 3 + Capital

    France 2 + Capital

Spain 4 + Capital (Without Mantua)

    Pirates 3 + Capital

    Danes 1 + Capital

    Swedes 1 + Capital

    Dutch 3 + Capital

he thinks, I suppose, ports associated with national capitals like KPR (3 ports), Fort-royal (3 ports), willemstad (3 ports), Mortimer (3 ports), Charleston (3 ports) and....La Habana (4 ports)

Yeah that. I messed up in my explaining up top :). You were asking for the other ports to be made conquerable, and they were asking for Mantua as well ("and" in the 2nd post), hence why I responded to that one.

Sorry for derailing your thread. I will say I think it is a decent proposal which should be considered by the dev team as it puts nearly all nations on a level footing; however, with the recent release announcement I don't see them doing anything this drastic. But who knows at this point with this dev team now.

EDIT: For context, I used to play in 2016/17 when only the capital was safe and Pirates owned Morant and Carlisle. Some of the most fun I had, with PvP being right on your doorstep :D

...and give back Mantua to Spain.

Why? No county capital/capital has more than 4 ports in it's county. Mantua is no closer to La Habana than La Navasse is to KPR, or Savannah is to Charleston. Even worse is Aves to Fort Royal (as they can't cap it to stop people going there). Maybe you should focus more on capturing South Cuba, and less on Florida if you want it.

  4. I'm sorry, but in a game as harsh as this, forcing players to PvP to progress will only result in people leaving. Not everyone can be Luciano(sp?) or Privateer and wreck in PvP. Myself, I'm a perfect example. In fleet actions I'm not bad, but put me in a 1v1 of equal tier and I'll probably lose 19 times out of 20. Being forced to PvP so I can run trade ships or even crew ships which can do reliable fleet action? Sorry, I do not agree.

I do think rewards for ranks would be nice eg: a Real/Doubloon "stipend" paid out by the admiralty as a sign-on bonus for each rank. Perhaps you could even "gate" these rewards behind PvP, but this is a combined server and not everyone is comfortable with PvP and should be forced into doing so.

  5. That would completely remove the incentive for anyone to capture ports except for bragging rights. All shipbuilding for all nations would just move there, because no risk.

I agree that Nations stuck with just their capital (ie: DA-NO right now) or worse should have some form of assistance, but I don't think that is the way to do it. Maybe if a nation owns no county capitals, it's capital should get Lv2 upgrades until they capture a capital (just an example). Hardcore nations with no capital should remain as is, else they wouldn't be hardcore.

  6. Yes. Because the game needs even more empty space for its playerbase. Sorry, but even if it had 2000 players, the current map is more than large enough. I don't understand how you think that adding more empty space and endless sailing with noone to see will bring back players and open the door to new players.

The reality is, with the eventual release wipe, some people will probably come back/new players come in as then there will be guaranteed no more wipes (at least until they change their minds again).

  7. I like this idea. A redeemable cosmetic paint for this ship only, would be an awesome way to say "You're Special" and allow users to spot us veterans without providing too much of an advantage to EA testers. I personally would prefer they went down the route of just giving us a redeemable standard ship every 24hrs (like how yacht = cutter copy) instead of making yet another DLC ship, but I can't complain.

  8. thats one point

I too think we need a durability for craftable mods but actually there is NO market for golden craftable mods, shops are full of grey mods but i only see once a golden upgrade in CS pvp1 (don't know about other nations) because high rank crafter are not making them (probably not intersted in making them because they are full of money and prefer to craft a first rate or "insert ship here").

You don't see crafted mods in store because it costs more to make them than the NPC store pays. If we had a player market for mods, you'd probably see heaps.

  9. I honestly think - Do away with crafting notes, instead allow for the Crafting of "Basic Oak Frame Parts, Common Oak Frame Parts, etc. etc." And have an exceptional ship require exceptional parts, with the exceptional parts requiring more LH and materials to craft - For instance, a Basic large carriage might be what we currently have, whilst an exceptional large carriage might require 2x materials, 2x LH, and maybe even a specific craft level. By changing to this sort of system, they could even make it so that exceptional ships produce more crafting exp for the crafter.

    • This also means that ships no longer will be teleported to outposts and players will have to get their captures to ports themselves

    Discuss

Give us an option to pay gold to send a ship to another outpost (and add a delivery time). I don't want to have to play port sail all the time.

Without this, the game will become capital PvE fleets all the time very quickly (who wants to spend 1 hr sailing somewhere to get a ship there for PBs?) With production buildings, you only need a few ports now to survive as a nation.
