Sure we don't have to use it. But the AI will. And what fun will that be to fight against if the player is trying to stay historical? I'll tell ya, none. But hey if there's some players here who want their super weeb++ space battleship yamato then let them have it. I just want a fleshed out and historically influenced predreadnought era and I no longer think that will happen. [...]

Well that's why i'm talking about a mode, a game in the game. I agree it would not be fitting to put it in the main campaign, but seeing as we have the naval academy that would be the logical place for such an experimental section.

And yeah i would prefer pre-dreadnoughts over modern battleships just because that's way more steampunk and because you can actually see the enemy ships at engagement distances. But it's clear that ship has sailed, looking at what is already in the game.

    loads of "Ackchyually..."

Someone here obviously doesn't understand the premise of a 'what if...' secenario, or just plain hates fun!

Every naval warfare enthusiast has at least once imagined what it would have been like if naval aviation had not developed like it did in real life, or what crazy ships we might have seen if the arms race had gone on longer without the london and washington treaties or WW2 to restrict or cut it short.

We already have a pretty good historically acurate game, couldn't hurt to add a 'what if mode.'

And nobody would force you to use it, so pls stop trying to convice us that we don't want it or can't have it.

Thank you for such quick and summary end. Although reluctant to be headless, the thought of my accuser being the same gives me solace.

  5. A well worded and thought-out reply. Except you don't have all the info.

KURUC had plenty time to capture the port they wanted. (Santa Marta)

They tried and failed for days with one guy and later with 2 or 3.

At some point the asked for help and CABAL came to help them. They kept sinking to AI and generating negative hostility so it still did not get raised. When we advised them to sail away and repair so they wouldn't get sunk their reply was: 'Repairs?'

Finally we were done with their incompetence and simply wanted to close our frontline to protect carta so we took santa marta.

They capped some smaller ports near santamarta and around puerto espanga area. Then they started ranting, raving, threathening on national discord because they wanted on some clans friendlist to be able to craft in developed ports, without actually helping to build it up like the rest of the nation's clans were doing (small clans included, a truly national effort). Not once did they actually ask. They just went full retard from the get go.

When they did not get their way (either because friendlists were full or because they didn't invest, i'm not sure) they decided to blackmail the nation by opening pedernales to all. As if blackmail was not enough to get on our bad side, they also proved themselves untrustworthy by not actually closing the port after they got put on the friendlist. So when they tried the same trick again at santa marta by putting baranquila open for all they got instead put on the blacklist.

So the tl;dr earlier in the thread was spot on: Stupid games were played and stupid prizes were had.

  6. 2000 hours in the game. Yet after failing to successfully raise Santa Marta for days (some time after release) we came to help you and advised you to sail away and rep when damaged so you would not continue to sink to npcs in hostility missions and generate negative hostility,  your reply (or atleast KURUC members) was: 'Repairs?'

It is a war game. If you cannot take a port (from npc!) you do not deserve that port. Period.

Btw, if we are fraud for not defending Santa Marta, what are you for not defending Barranquilla? Either you are fraud yourself, or just incompetent. Either way you have proven again that you are not worthy of having a port.

This "Collapse of Nations" thread illustrates the need for regular map-resets and perhaps wipes.  Hear me out before the expected "You can have my 1st rate when you take it out of my cold, dead hands".

In WWII online there are set victory conditions which when met, one side is declared the winner and the map resets. We could do the same, with rewards for the winning side.  The rewards could be additional ship bonuses to the winning clans or be as simple as getting a permanent national crown next to your name.  It would be impressive to be "Insert-Cool-Name-Here" with a black crown (won with Pirates), grey crown (won with Russians) and blue crown (won with French).

Map resets wouldn't be traumatic if they were an expected part of the game.  In any system (genetics and AI) drift will form a majority and overcome, which is why there is a genetic Eve and a genetic Adam.  Randomness ensures >someone< will win.  Game has to take this into account.

I have been arguing for regular map resets or 'seasons' for years now. To me it's the only way to counter act eventual domination by a few big nations. Not sure why it has never even been considered or seriously discussed.

To preempt some obvious objections: map reset would not need to mean xp/skill/ship reset. In fact i would argue against it. As has been suggested a reward could be awarded to the winner, preferably just cosmetic or commemorative.

That what happens when you make an alliance with Denmark, Poland and some other clans for huge screening fleets and safe RvR. Go to war with every country and then you can have fun.

Are you hello kittying serious? The Swedes have too many allies!? Reason we stopped doing port battles is every time we tried we got screened out by multiple fleets allied to the target, and sometimes by nations who weren't even allied but just looking for a fight in the empty gameworld.

But now i'm sure you will comeback with an argument that once again shows you know better what's going on as an outsider than the people involved...

the victory condition for this war are this..... 1)jags bends the knee 2) jags leaves the nation. 3) spain no longer exsists as an RVR nation. (current state of the USA nation)

Still threatening to destroy nations with nightflips, even as player numbers drop down below 400 at peak. So glad to have you wonderful sportsmanlike players back on our server.

In truth the Clan system solved the problem to the point of - "wash our hands" - not caring about other clans driving their own diplomacy.

Remember, this was our own request to overcome the difficulties of herding cats, so groups could pursue their own objectives without having to council with anyone else if they so chose.

And yet what we got is some bastardized form of half nation, half clan based RvR mechanic that simply does not work.

“Nations” is the mechanic for solo’s to tag along and into battle.

Most players try a game before joining a clan, how would you implement this, joining clans first without knowing them is dubious to say the least, all sounds like band-aid over band-aid stuff.

RvR has never been a solo or beginners activity

I am very saddened when I read all the responses about coming together as Nations and working together as teams.

I have never seen so many selfish, hateful, egotistical, and just general shit attitudes in a single thread than I do with Diplomacy and getting people to play as a team.

Is al i see is people with a different opinion than yours, it's your own views that color it thus...

Fact is that diplomacy without in game mechanisms will always lead to conflicts within nations or between alliance partners, simply because it is impossible to enforce. Every nation has had one or multiple conflicts that were solely caused by current (lack of) mechanics.

You think it's a coincidence that virtually all experienced RvR players in this thread agree that (national) diplomacy as it is doesn't work? These guys never agree on anything!
