  1. We heard that mortimer was a lovely place and that the locals would not object to our visit. we found this to be true, they didnt try and stop us at all, were very hospitable and bent over backwards to get out of our way. they were literally no trouble.

10/10 would go and camp at mortimer again.

  2. Map and or/asset wipe would not only be fine but expected. it will prevent stagnation or total domination and give newer players the chance to experience the early map stages when the nations were more spread out and there were lots of neutral ports for trading etc.

XP wipe more than perhaps once on release would be a bit tedious and demoralising. I know we perform the function of testing but we are also paying customers and losing 200 hours of progress would make a lot of people into sad pandas.

So what they propose seems fair and fine to me. i.e. possible asset/map wipe if needed but hopefully no XP wipe.

  3. I think you're losing sight of the fact that we're just goofing around on a forum as we discuss peace treaties in an imaginary Carib war.

And your stuff about this thread demonstrating national character? Either comedy gold or massive inanity. I hope the former, but suspect the later in your posts.

Back on topic: we are at war with Oceana, we have always been at war with Oceana. ;)

Haha, oh I got hit with a full broadside of irony here, oh it hurts. Fetch me my brownest trousers.

  4. You are arguing with an imaginary person, I have never said I have a problem with you conquering florida or anywhere else. its fine, conquer away. and my nation hasn't been decimated. we are thriving thank you for asking.

I just lolled at all the pious and flowerly explanations and propaganda and re-writing of history and how it mirrors real world US stuff. Its amusing to me, although all the accompanying aggro and insults are pretty tedious. but yeah, i have no problem with you doing the conquest. why would I? its just a game. if you have the strength go and conquer! good luck to you, i hope we see an epic war come out of it, peace in this game would be so terribly dull.

I don't think the US side seems capable of seeing this from others point of view. its of no surprise to me that the Spanish don't want to surrender even tho it clearly surprises you guys. if you were beaten down and reduced to a handful of ports I doubt you would give in either. its like the common misconception that attacking people will 'teach them a lesson'. no it wont, it will just make them angry and fight back more. punitive action just leads to re-action. you cant make people agree with you by shooting them. :)

    Viva the Spanish resistance!

  5. rofl, that's some damn fine team America justification.

'They were just so unreasonable we had to kill them for their own good'

There is nothing wrong with saying 'we were at war with them, we were winning, so we beat them and captured their base'. this is a PvP game, its ok to just win a war without real world PR spiel to explain it.

I wonder what area you will next recognise cannot defend itself and needs a good conquering.

  6. Whoa, there, slow down mister! If the brave forum warriors have taught me anything, it's that a video game about pretend internet boats is as serious as business gets!

    :)

I think people lose sight of the fact that this is a game. games have winners and losers, in good games both can have fun. I was recently involved with my group in a series of battles were we were worse off. I lost several ships. the timings were not ideal, the location was hard on us, the local population balance was against us, the enemy was rude and arrogant. did I whinge? no, I had fun. I would do it again.

All this nationalistic inspired hatred stuff is not benficial to anyone. generating hatred between pretend e-nations is counter-productive.

Oh and the fighting for panama is indeed glorious, with all sides fighting well and scoring victories and the result still very much in the balance. Its just a shame you did choose to, as you say, let the game get fucked up just to provoke a change. I don't agree with your reasons for that but its a free country, if you choose to abandon your capital and come to fight us in this local war then it saves us from boring ghost capping.

although I wouldn't call it two fronts, your remaining ports aren't far enough apart to really be considered two fronts ;)

  7. Well Spanish tried to hold all their ports, which was impossible to begin with and in the process they lost much more, because of scattering their forces too much.

Lets be real here La Habana is great spot to set up defenses around Gulf of Mexico. If they would just let go of rest of their ports and focus on Cuba and mexico, they probably could make whole Gulf into their private inner sea...

As it stands now they fight on too many fronts.

yeah I don't understand all this business of saying Havana is indefensible or surrounded by enemies. the US, brit and pirate capitals are all miles away. Cuba is in an excellent position to dominate the gulf and stop US trade at key west. the problem is they lack players and organistion. that would cripple them no matter where their capital was. Unless you put their capital so far away no one can be bothered to go there. Havana is probably the best positioned capital in the game with the exception of Kingston. have you even met Sweden! look where those poor devils are!! do they run away? no, they have fun fighting off the French and Danes/Russians and they do a bloody good job of it too.

  8. Your ignorance betrays you.

    - The US approached the largest of the Spanish clans in order to negotiate borders without hostilities.

    - The large Spanish clan Representative told our diplomat that he must be on drugs, and to fuck himself.

    - Ergo war, which Spain is now losing badly so badly that the Devs are stepping in to help them.

This is not a display of ignorance at all. its irrelevance. so what if you offered peace to someone who probably didn't represent their entire nation before curb stomping them when they rebuffed you. the proposed idea that the US conquered them altruistically just to impose peace and save them from the British is laughable, no matter how many insults you were offered. Its all very silly. if the Spanish were beating the US and came to you with an offer of peace on their terms would the US just cower and accept? NO, of course no, there would be a wave of defiance, flag waving, ego polishing and then war.

Anyway people who have made claims about why the British did certain things or were supposedly intending to do certain things are also ignorant of the irrelevant internal goings on. no one cares. the only important things are the facts. the Brits didn't try and capture the Havana area, as such speculation cannot be used as an excuse for pre-emptive conquest.

Either way, this is a pvp game, one side will always lose, in this case its the Spanish. tough luck. its fun, its a game. all this anger over whooo did wat to whooo is silliness. you started a war and destroyed a nation because some guy told you to f yourself on the internet? srsly? have you ever been on the internet before? peeps need to take this stuff less seriously. being on the underdog/losing team can be fun, depends how you choose to approach it.

They are pixels chaps, just pixels.

  9. Lol, I love all the nationalistic propaganda being generated here. its just as hilarious as real life.

    - Americans only capture ports to 'create peace' (yeah ok mr Bush, we all believe you)

    - The British are evil expansionists (lets ignore that the brits have lost 75% of their starting areas and that America has captured/owns more ports and have more territory and has expanded much more aggressively into Spain's home area. that's ok, because that was just to enforce peace so it doesn't count. FREEDOM!!)

    - The British stabbed their allies in the back. (no it was just one clan making a deal with another, not a national alliance to break)

    - The Americans only captured Cuban Spanish ports to stop the British taking them (nope again, brits didn't attack any of the western half of cuba in the last few days until after the Americans started taking all the ports there. but again lol at using real life American excuses for military action. 10/10)

    - America doesn't have any bad intentions for Spain, its just a breakdown of trust that led to the steamrollering of an entire nation. (lol)

Keep it coming, this stuff is comedy.

The reality is that Spain started with a huge empire, America with nothing, Britain with scattered and indefensible outposts.

    - America naturally wanted to expand, so it did. A lot. It focused on those evil Spanish and French and largely ignored those lovely pirate fellows.

    - Spain couldn't defend all its ports and didn't need to anyway so it focused on home area. But fewer players and lack of co-ordination led to defeat and then ragequit when losing and internal arguments

    - Britain didn't attack the Spanish home area much and in fact handed back what it did capture but did go and pick off the southern parts of Spanish empire that very naturally fall into its area of influence as the rest of its outposts fell (including to the Americans.)

    - The british had made no move to take north/west cuba and west gulf of mexico. there was no threat there to pre-empt.

    - Everyone is just playing the game and trying to have fun. the strong nations are carving up the weak ones. Americans pretend that all aggression is to promote freedom and help the people its invading. The british are building an empire, the Spanish are upset they are losing. this is all normal stuff. the truth is mundane.

"The Spanish lost due to their own actions. instead of strengthening their own home area, they moved en masse to south America. If you need to move their home port to make it safer from attack, move It to the south side of cuba where there is a cluster of ports. they will be fine there if they can be bothered to actually defend it. its quite hard to get to from either british or americans ports. however if they continue to just sit in south America they wont defend anything.

The whole thing is nothing to do with timers or location, just internal bad decisions."

    You couldnt be more wrong.

We wont defend anything anywere at 5 am. in a EU server.

Please prove me wrong by doing the same with the Brits or by setting the timers of ALL the taken ports at 10 PM GMT :D

You are right the lack of organization from the Spanish side was (and is) an issue, but it wasnt by any means the main reason why we dont try to retake the ports.

No, you are just not telling the truth. I have been online when the ports around cuba were being captured. it was in the evening EU time. and i know for a fact that there were lots of spanish players avalible at those times to defend because i was in a battle with them, in south america. 6-8 Spanish ports were lost while those battles were going on in the south with 40 spanish players. Why werent they defending the capital? how can you blame timers in that case? and anyway the americans have to sleep too, so go re-cap when they are. its nonsense, its excuses. the Americans are bigger and better organised and the Spanish clans mostly ran away. thats the real reason.

  12. My game is convinced i want to go on holiday in Florida.

I died in a battle near Conception, in south america. i re-spawned in cape canaveral. so i had to teleport to Kingston and then back to my outpost at conception. however, when i take missions from the port screen, they all come up at Cape caneveral. no matter where i take a mission, they are all in florida. so i cant do missions anymore and i am certain that every time i die i will end up in Florida.

This is akward. pls send help! i really dont want to go to florida again.

    Thanks

  13. Well IF my sources are incorrect then its really very odd that the Spanish have abandoned their home area, cutting off their new player base and support completely, just to hold a handful of fairly irrelevant ports and continue to put pressure on the Dutch. it just makes me wonder why they would do this and who benefits, its not the Spanish!

Anyway, its making for a very enjoyable war down there.

  14. Perhaps if a big Spanish clan was not down in south America fighting a losing cause against the Dutch and British to hold their last 4 ports, then they would be able to defend their home port and region. (if rumor would have it this is just to relieve the pressure off the French so they can capture Dutch ports in the far east)

When the ports in Cuba were falling like dominoes today a fleet of Spanish ships was in game and fighting battles in south america. they would have been able to defend their capital if only they had been fighting in their own national interest not someone else's. Now the heart of their nation is gone! Its not the timers who are to blame, it is whoever is pulling the strings behind this bizarre and failing Spanish deployment. The Spanish players were in the server at the crucial time, just in the wrong place! lesson learned? Now I wonder who will be sent to aid the French, or will the Americans join in on the Dutch side and make things worse for our beleaguered Gallic adversaries? Whoever's grand plan this is falling apart must be pretty salty by now.

  15. The patch looks great! I love the new crew management system, its something i have been hoping for.

However the only thing I dont like in the list, and i see some others have commented on it too, is identifying who is selling what and at what prices. I think this might just lead to trolling. perhaps only identify people if you have actually made a purchase or sale to them, or give people the option to do it anonymously. It would be entirely realisitic for a seller to sell through an intermediary in order to remain anonymous, perhaps even charge a small fee for this?

  16. Sadly i was not recording the entire incident so I have no proof, i was focused on the boarding mini game with a top down view when he suddenly appeared between me and my target and pushed us apart. i was then 100% focused on capturing the target before he could tack and come back to board it so it was only once the prize was secure that i went to start FRAPS and record him trying to sink it. i will post that video shortly. either way, as a member of a clan i expect they will want to deal with it even if it doesnt get official punishment as its embarrassing for them.

In either case I regard him trying to sink my captured target as the greater transgression of the two, which I can prove with the video and those shots from it.

As an aside, I am not looking for this guy to be banned or anything, its a game after all and he is a customer he just needs to be aware this behavior wont be accepted and has to stop. clan members are not rookies and they know better.

EDIT: Video is here. the prize is clearly captured and this is the 2nd volley he puts into it.

  17. I dont know if this is actually against the rules but its unbeleivably childish.

I was chasing a lone trader brig with one small escort. i started the battle and it was just me and the two enemy ships.

two small cutters joined the battle and one niagara, the two cutters asked me if i wanted the escort ship and i said no they were welcome to it. all good so far.

I was chasing and overhauling the trader brig, i saw that the niagara was following me. i finally stopped the brig dead (at this point the niagara had done 0, not fired a shot or anything) so i boarded the trader. lets face it at this point i knew what was about to happen.

sure enough he waited until i had nearly capped before ramming between us and interupting the boarding. there were 5 crew left on the enemy ship. fortunately for me he was pretty incompetent and overshot, drifting away far enough that he couldnt slow down in time to steal the kill. so i managed to re-board and capture the ship.

That is sadly typical behaviour, what is really unacceptable is that he then started to sink my capture out of pure spite from failing to get it himself. because the two cutters hadnt captured the escort yet i couldnt leave the battle, so i had to physically put myself between my capture and him to block his shots, where he still kept firing at it. he very nearly sank it but luckily because my ship handling was much better i held on for long enough for the battle to be over.

I got a video and some screenshots of this idiot. King Hofi from the RGL clan. so what he did might not technically be Green on Green but that's down to interpretation. he tired to sink MY ship as far as I am concerned. it was my battle, he joined it voluntarily, he contributed nothing to its capture and indeed tried to steal the capture by ramming, then in spite at failing he tried to sink the capture once I owned it. this is Green on Green in my book.

Even if its not against the rules, the RGL clan should be embarrassed to have this sort of player in their group. its bad enough being a childish spitefull griefer, worse being an incompetent one.

You know what the karma really was? the trader had 60 compass wood on it which I sold for 32,000. my best ever capture :)
