I dont think it should be a legal issue as long as its clearly stated that all submissions can be used by the devs to their liking. But then again I have never been in game development...
But I still think the devs waste potential in not crowdsourcing simple things.

HP and Thickness have a cap o 20%. This is included with your wood bonus for what type of ship your craft. So effectively you just put what a mod on there that maxed out your HP without even taking into account the second mod or wood type. We where thinking the floating battery would prob be best used on a Fir or Cedar ships to tank something out that normally wouldn't be very paper thin. We really just couldn't find a use for the Floating Battery. It's an odd mod with it's stats and the in game caps that we found so far. With that we are suspecting that other things like Penetration and such might cap out at 20% too. It's kinda hard to test those stats out. We have some one about to do a reload build and we will be able to time it and see if it caps out at 20% too.
Thats really interesting, didnt know that. Stat caps are a odd thing if they are mentioned nowhere.

I just tried to put on a "Bow figure - elephant" and "Floating battery", but the floating battery bonus overrode the elephant instead of stacking. I imagine that might be the case with other upgrades as well (e.g. there's several upgrades providing sail force).
If thats actually the case i dont think it's the intended way. Ever since i have played every single modificator of each installed upgrade was applied to the ship...

As I understand it the UI is still way on the end of the devs to-do list for now since there are more urgent matters to adress.
For new players the UI is probably still a huge turnoff and only those who actually give it a shot will see the real beauty. What is even problematic for most "old dogs" are the cryptic modifiers.
But one benefit of naval action is that we have a small but mostly comitted community (at least for now). Why not use our strengths in the community to kill two birds with one stone and bring the game forward in this simple cause.
My suggestion is to make it a kind of challenge to describe upgrades, books and their modifiers, wares and ships with fitting and understandable statements, quotes and such.
The challenge could be for example one item per week. @admin decides which ones are fitting and give it to the players as a poll to decide which they like most.
The suggestion with the most votes at the end of the week wins and gets a reward in some form - marks, ships, skins etc.
What do you guys think?

What is Turning Rheas??????? Nobody knows and it's on alot of stuff. Devs please support the community and the players and clear the air!!!
I have to say I agree on @Sir Texas Sir that it most likely means the yard turn speed. There is not much with a turning rate on a ship besides rudder, yards and the ship itself.

And i don't think it's historically accurate either. Unloading a trader ship in port could take days.

pretty much. yes. but the colorcoding is my interpretation of the values.
Might be that the values are a positive thing. But afaik speed is always better if the values are positive and vice versa the time decreases with a negative value.

AFAIK available doesn't necessarily mean the port has the wares in stock, just that they have it delivered on a regular basis. Get an outpost there and set a contract.

When it comes to coding and extracting i'd rather not hardcode but i guess there is no other way for now.
