Elevation

Played an hour of UG:G last night and enjoyed it, but my biggest struggle was reading elevation on the map. With an individual piece of artillery selected it's super clear when LOS is visualized, but in the abstract I struggle to understand the nuances of the terrain situation with no units selected.

 

Some potential suggestions:

  • More extreme LoS visualization when no units are selected
  • Show per-unit LoS on mouseover, not on click; might make it easier to understand elevation experimentally
  • Bake in some topo-lines into the underlying map
  • Some sort of exaggerated elevation model?
  • The camera is too high up and it so strongly foreshortens elevation that you can't really see it. Perhaps play with camera angles that aren't so high up to make more of the differences that are already there.

Anyway, just some small thoughst. Lots to love about this version but I think this could make a big difference!
