Wetworth
February 20, 1815: despite the Treaty of Ghent being signed over a month earlier, ending the War of 1812, US Frigate Constitution engages and captures the British Frigates Cyane and Levant.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capture_of_HMS_Cyane
BrutishVulgarian
Hell yeah, 'Murica! Although, I don't think they were both frigates. Let's never forget the Constitution, outnumbered, whipped 2 Royal Navy ships all by it's lonesome.

Wetworth
Yes, corvettes. Just a friendly "here's a bit of trivia", no bragging.
Wetworth
December 28, 1812, USS Constitution sights a sail off the Brazilian coast, HMS Java, the former Renommee. The following day, Constitution defeated the smaller frigate in single ship combat. Although Java could not be salvaged due to the severity of the damage, the helm was used to replace Constitution's, which was lost during the fighting. Among the casualties was Java's Captain Lambert, struck down by an American sharpshooter, who American Commodore Brainbridge expressed deep sorrow for, and described as a commander he considered to be brave and noble. On New Year's Day, 1813, HMS Java was set alight and destroyed. Her surviving officers were court martialed and honorably acquitted,
