Charger_M
Well...in the third stage of the battle, playing as the CSA I capture the Hornet's Nest and click finish only to get a "Draw" result despite all requirements for victory being filled....so why does the battle not move on to the fight for Pittsburg Landing? Jamesk2
If I remember correctly, the 1st stage is the assault on the left by your own Corps, the 2nd stage is the middle & right by the 2nd Corps and the Reserve Corps, and the 3rd stage is back to the left? Hornet's Nest is the 4th stage, and only after that Pittsburg Landing is revealed. So where exactly are your situation?
CaptainKanundrum
I have had this exact same problem with the previous patch. Havent had a chance to test it with the new one. After capturing Hornets Nest I click the Finish button and receive a draw instead of moving on to Pittsburgh Landing. I reported it in game. A. P. Hill
If the finish button displays right after you attack the Hornets nest, you're taking too long. You, as CSA, should be able to collapse the Union right, forcing them to the river bank, as well as chasing them out of the Hornets nest and back to the landing before the timer goes off. Wandering1
The game does a check if you've captured Hornet's Nest before the timer runs out. Basically, if you've seen the finish button, you're going to get a draw at best. There are several ways to capture Hornet's Nest before the timer runs out, some of which are only usable in the lower difficulties whereas others will work even on Legendary. Just a matter of finding which one suits your playstyle/needs best.
CaptainKanundrum
Hmmm, that makes sense, but why even have the game continue after the timer then? I also think this might be inconsistent with other battles, such as Gettysburg, where I captured Cemetery Hlil after the timer, and it still gave me the victory. Wandering1
A few game quirks. Like intentionally getting the NPC army killed so you can get more 'rescued' guns, along with hopefully getting more captures from slugging it out more. Consistency between the scenarios is a different problem. Malvern as CSA, for example, you can go extremely overtime such that the map is practically pitch black and you're still fighting for Northern Malvern Hill. Squadron HQ
Never ever fight Hornets Nest. Send 2 brigades around it, either left or right, and camp the road. You will proceed to the next day and you can either rush the Landing or camp their army as it runs from the nest. But fighting it out in Hornets Nest is always a mistake.
Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau
You took too long time! I finished Shiloh as CSA yesterday on brig. gen difficulty. I would say that: Don't have long and prolonged firefights against Union. You need to be on advantage all the time. First phase is church; Here I sent skirmishers and one inf brigade to right side of map, fighting with the union skirms and troops just to keep them occupied. Always having my men in the woods to make sure they will last. During the time I marched with rest of my army undetected on left side preserving the stamina of my men. When at the river woods near the church far left, I order my men to run, all at the same time, over the river to quickly assault and capture the church. I do it even before Grant appears with reinforcements, thus ending battle prematurely! Second phase; the same tactic here with sending skirms to right to pull enemies and keep them occupied, left army preserves stamina until cap point is near and then all sudden charge. Ending battle prematurely. Third phase, the hornets nest. By doing circumventing tactics the union troops are trapped south of my CSA troops at church and second phsae. I leave skirms behind me to keep them occupied while main army surround hornet nest and make devastating firing into the nest. I keep my cannons very close and soon the unions will break and a few shatter. Then I capture the hornet nest prematurely at the same time as I move all my main army to the end of map north of hornet nest. Fourth and last phase, Pittsburgh landing. There's only artillery and ironclads protecting the landing, and my main troops quickly reach it as they are close being north of hornets nest. I dont give the enemy artillery a fuq and quickly swarms the fort routing the artillery. Then I place my troops as a wedge with point facing north in pittsburg landing, all in the woods. Awaiting Union reinforcement from north. Defend hard and use your generals to boost your men's morale and have artillery batteries very close to fire canisters and shells all the time. I managed it with only 30% casualties. My Army setup pre-Shiloh: 1 Corp, 3 Divisions with 4 brigades each. 9 Infantry (you need backbone for strong and coeherent assalts and be able to depatch 4-5 skirmishers) 1 Artillery 1 Skirmisher with high grade snipers 1 Mounted infantry How would I have done it better? I would have exchanged the skirmisher brigade with expensive rifles to another Mounted Infantry brigade as they excelled and was invaluable in the Shiloh grand battle. In my 0.75 Legendary Ironman I bypassed Hornet's Nest entirely - drove a wedge right into Pittsburg Landing, stepped on the reinforcements, and held it for the win. You can suicide every unit on the right against Hornet's Nest and not even make a dent on Legendary.
