**In contrast, by ordering a unit to simply move back it will expose its rear to the enemy, becoming much more vulnerable.

  8. Peter.  Do as Sterner said first, uninstall/Reinstall Card drivers....Your PC works with other game's. Norfolk has some good insight.

You probably know this anyway. Just a suggestion. Since windows 8 there is a program by Microsoft that's checks you Windows OS.This will use a snap from the clean build n goes thru with the check n rebuilds/fixes you OS only. I use it every time I am having issues with my PC,,,.. or just to check my OS health.. weekly. If I am having pc gaming issues I always start here. This way I know my OS isn't at fault.

If the driver's update/reinstall doesn't fix your woes...Norfolk's suggestions...Other games work, UG worked before..,,, UG is a bit demanding, but still?

First, run from the command prompt admin privileges (  sfc /scannow  )   >>This is you OS System File Checker. 1 Space between sfc.../                                  -----------------------------

I'm still wishing the developers would include the Battle of Franklin, Tn. as part of the battle of Nashville, The two are extremely dependent on each other. The Battle of Franklin had a huge bearing on the final result at Nashville. It cannot be understated.

Besides, six Confederate Generals that are involved in various battles throughout the Campaign lost their lives at Franklin.

Still hoping to see it's inclusion.

Yes, Franklin was a costly Battle for the AoT, as you said it's a part of or leading up to the Battle of Nashville. One Battle does effect the other, to further add to your info-----

    Battle of Franklin - Aftermath:

The Battle of Franklin cost Hood 1,750 killed and around 5,800 wounded. Among the Confederate deaths were six generals: Patrick Cleburne, John Adams, States Rights Gist, Otho Strahl, and Hiram Granbury. An additional eight were wounded or captured. Fighting behind earthworks, Union losses were a mere 189 killed, 1,033 wounded, 1,104 missing/captured. The majority of those Union troops that were captured were wounded and medical personnel who remained after Schofield departed Franklin. Many were liberated on December 18, when Union forces re-took Franklin after the Battle of Nashville. While Hood's men were dazed after their defeat at Franklin, they pressed on and clashed with Thomas and Schofield's forces at Nashville on December 15-16. Routed, Hood's army effectively ceased to exist after the battle.

The assault at Franklin is frequently known as the "Pickett's Charge of the West" in reference to the Confederate assault at Gettysburg. In reality, Hood's attack consisted of more men, 19,000 vs. 12,500, and advanced over a longer distance, 2 miles vs. .75 miles, then Lieutenant General James Longstreet's assault on July 3, 1863. Also, while Pickett's Charge lasted approximately 50 minutes, the assaults at Franklin were conducted over a span of five hours.

  10. Shiloh With the 'Army of the Mississippi" is a good map, multi-phase, buildup to the Final Battle. Maps are smaller, n the Battles are intense.

    ---------

    Army of Mississippi (March 1862)

This army, at times known by the names Army of the West or Army of the Mississippi (the latter particularly at the Battle of Shiloh), was one of the most important in the Western Theater, fighting at Shiloh, Corinth, and Perryville. It was organized on March 5, 1862, and portions of the Army of Pensacola were added on March 13. It was consolidated with the Army of Central Kentucky and the Army of Louisiana on March 29. On November 20, 1862, it was renamed the Army of Tennessee.

  11. I agree with A.P Hill, if I may..... AI will hunt n destroy a Players Batteries pretty Damn Quick..++ This is One of the things I like about the game. I have learnt that any Unprotected Artillery, given the chance the AI will Lay waste to the Batteries.Plus Getting my Batteries shot to pieces when moving them to darn to close to deliver that dbl canisters... ..

Once I see a Cavalry unit, but usually a AI skirms unit, about to attack my Batteries, I know I'm screwed n will lose my Artillery Batteries or part of. Than I Blame myself for letting my Battlefield Mgmt slide/slip with leaving units vulnerable. Proper Battlefield Management/Supporting is critical, or pay the price.

*Now with the AI batteries being vulnerably / unsupported, that would be a tight rope to walk. Balance should skewed to the AI's advantage slightly, imo...Whereas a Player attacking a Battery, this should have to take longer to kill/destroy. This would help n give the effect that the AI has support but not seen? If that Makes sense. It would be nice to have AI cavalry/Inf. unit always close by the AI batteries/attached for protection?

    Just my $.02.............

brigades that are out of ammo at the end of fighting on a day, and the battle goes to the next day, should not be out of ammo at the start of that next day.

Agree......The start of the second day,, all should be fully armed/resupplied...I seen this^ n it is a wonder why also.....perhaps it is tied to our supply reserves(Cost in Camp?)......

As you know......Units were resupplied when in a heavy battle, reinforced / Ammo, if at all possible.

There was many times during Fighting a battle that a unit would run low/out(20th Maine. LRT).. Ammo wagons were in hot demand at all times when the lead started flying. Some units were hard to resupply(location on Field.)

But during the night, all units should be reinforced / moved /realigned, n *rearmed/resupplied for the next days continuation of hostilities...imho....

  13. That Picture depicts the 1st Minnesota at Gettysburg:

At a pivotal moment in the 1863 struggle at Gettysburg, Major General Winfield Scott Hancock, commander of II Corps, ordered the First Minnesota to charge into a situation where it would be outnumbered by at least 5 to 1. The general's purpose was to buy minutes of delay with human lives, and one survivor spoke afterward that he expected the advance to result in "death or wounds to [every single one of the attackers]. The regiment fully and instantly obeyed the order, suffering at least 82% casualties among those making the attack; this action contributed significantly to the preservation of a key Union defensive position on the heights of Cemetery Ridge.

In a way this must have been an advantage, lack of 'military education' so to speak (Grant certainly was an educated man) leaves more room to innovation.

Grant was well educated in the Art of War. Also a lot of ACW officers n men knew Napoleon Tactics were out dated... The wheels of Military Tactics n Movements do Lag behind Battlefield Technology(Rifled Guns/ammo/ranges/movements). Grant was a believer still of massing men to take a position....a war of attrition...which the South could not win..       ------------------------

Grant began his military career as a cadet at the West Point military academy in 1839. After graduation he went on to serve with distinction as a lieutenant in the Mexican–American War. Grant was a keen observer of the war and learned battle strategies serving under Generals Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott. ......... snip ....Maj. Gen. John C. Frémont, who viewed in Grant an "iron will" to win, appointed Grant to commander of the District of Cairo. Grant became famous around the nation after capturing Fort Donelson in February 1862

  17.                    Fatal Wounding of Stonewall Jackson....http://northagainstsouth.com/tag/carl-schurz/?print=pdf-search

...The XI Corps had a combination of poor leadership at the top, poor morale and poor readiness. Of the 23 regiments, 15 had never fought on the winning side of a battle and 8 had no combat experience. They were ripe for a disaster. It came at around 5:15 pm when 21,500 screaming Confederates erupted from the woods and crashed into their line. Stonewall Jackson’s plan had worked to perfection. His flank attack had achieved complete surprise and shattered the Federal line. The division of Brig. Gen. Charles Devens, Jr. collapsed first. Maj. Gen. Carl Schurz ordered his division to take a north-south alignment to meet the onrushing flood of Confederates...                                                                            .........

...With the coming of nightfall, the darkness created confusion for both sides. The XI Corps had taken heavy losses. The corps suffered nearly 2,500 casualties (259 killed, 1,173 wounded, and 994 missing or captured), about one quarter of its strength, including 12 of 23 regimental commanders, which indicates that they fought fiercely during their retreat. Jackson was anxious to press the attack while the Federals were disorganized. He and his staff rode to the front to scout the Federal positions. As they were returning to their own lines about 9:15 they were fired upon by troops of the 18th North Carolina Infantry who mistook them for enemy cavalry. Jackson was hit three times, including a serious shoulder wound. It took at least two hours to get him the Wilderness Tavern where his own physician, Dr. Hunter McGuire, examined him and amputated his left arm at about 2:00...

This is only one account here Different account recall different circumstances surrounding the incident.(Time/place*road etc..)

Tragic loss nevertheless... If Jackson lived (with his 2nd Corps), Culps hill would of been his by late afternoon July1..forcing the Union to abandon Cemetery Ridge.....so the speculation goes,  which I agree with.....

  19. Well no,, Corps Cmdr(s) were valuable. A.S. Johnson, was one of the best Generals the South Had. Leading/rallying his men was Johnson being Johnson. As Gallant as it was leading that Charge.

A Corps Cmdr, getting Killed(as you mentioned) Has a very bad effect on you army as a whole, demoralizing. The South is Left with a Big hole in there Army's upper command. A good if not Great Commander was killed unnecessarily very early in the war ---- A.S. Johnson.

Great Battle Field leaders are a rarity, n need to be protected at all costs.

This was a hard lesson learnt by both sides. But lost on others. Good BG are always in the fray(losses are expected to a degree) (Franklin Nov.64 ~16 CSA General officers lost in 1 battle.(Killed/wounded/Captured.)
