  1. agree as well- that could be a little feature in itself, having an older and/or larger turret (possibly reusing the barrel size scaling?) with better ergonomics (ala machinery space for the fire rate) but greater weight, or a more compact turret that fires a little slower but can fit in tighter spots better
  2. i'm about 26 years into a 1900 start, and the AI has reverted to 9-inch gunned battlecruisers and 10-inch gunned battleships entirely because it couldn't keep up. and alongside scrapping any slightly aging design like it's going out of fashion, these have killed any further interest in my most recent US campaign. i think a good solution when it comes to being unable to keep up with the techs needed for shared designs is for the AI to be able to consider more than just that year- if it's Japan in 1925, and doesn't meet the requirements of 1925 techs, it then falls back onto designs from as far back as 1920- kind of like a player building a ton of obsolete ships just to immediately refit them. there further may be a need to limit the AI when this scenario eventually pops up in a long playthrough, like outright deprecating the use of 9/10/11-inch; and even later 12-inch; calibers on battleships once a tech like 14-inch II or 15-inch I has been researched.
  3. is there any functional difference between .design and .bindesign files now? regular .design still works fine. is it just the impact on loading times or something?
  4. how close are we talking about? keep in mind that your ships may just too close and either is just outside their firing angles, simply just unable to depress (most naval guns being able to depress to about -5 degrees), or constantly trying to stay on target at such close and technically never being truly locked on- though that may be dealt with by enabling aggressive firing.
  5. hey how do you get these imported into the game? i've never done this before and I have nowhere near the time needed to create a ton of shared designs
  6. hey is there any way to begin conquering Korea as Japan? (which i guess includes any non-congruous minor's territory) i've tried parking my whole fleet outside korean ports and nothing happens.
  7. funnily enough Орёл (Eagle) does tends to translate to either Oryol and Orel (rarely Oriol too); all of which are the same place; and google translate frequently gets one or the other when translating from Russian to English.
  8. doing/Just did a 1890-1895 Japan campaign (custom-built navies). it was... interesting: Japan: Very underpowered, I could only initially build to about a third of the Chinese navy, let alone the gigantic Russian pacific navy. the seemingly only reliable way to survive without getting nuked by the Chinese and Russians was initially to either limit/mothball my navy or hide them by the Spanish islands and irritate the spanish. eventually got into a war with Russia as the whole world went to war with each other and was blockaded for a solid year with my research and crew budgets nearly zeroed to stay alive. my new mega-navy (now only about 1/3rd of the Russians) is built and worked up... and i find out that crew training of green is about a billion times more effective than cadets. bring my entire navy into battle with the entire Russian navy and their cadet-trained navy... aaaaaaaand it's a completely one-sided slaughter... against mainly 1-3 numerical odds save for torpedo boats... sure. oh and the world war going on in the background- both China and the UK governments have fully collapsed due to being super-blockaded by the Franco-German-Spanish alliance... uhhhh. what happens now? any way to claim territory? any rebuilding of their territory? because if not than this campaign is over. it seems that cadet-level training largely means "nobody home" for combat effectiveness even against Green-level training, so that either needs to be buffed, or Green nerfed Japan has about half its needed starting GDP (at least for a player start) there needs to be an auto-surrender for utterly defeated AI nations. still a fascinating campaign though!
