    I +++ it. When AI builds good ships player must do soo too. I do remember back with demo campaign ai created really damn good multipurpuse CA that cut thro my fleet to the point i was raming them with dd-s just to knock them out of the combat.

    They were literally the reason i lost that war.

    Also alot of the problems with dd is caused by AI using torpedoes as soon as it can 10-15km. I highly suggest (unles that was not fixed before i stoped playing) Puting 5km max shoot distance for AI. Early game DDs were far more dengerous then late game DDs used by AI.

     

    I highly suggest giving max distance in which torpedoes should be sent

    More personality to the ships would be awesome tho i doubt there will be things such as custom paint jobs for ships or even painting scheme for entire fleet. I would love things such as splinter protection as a cosmetic but lets be honest

     

    It is a dream that will probably never come such as workshop support  or better ai tactics and formations

    It is awesome that despite difficulties, game is in the state it is now :). Congratulations on your hard work, but please before you end work on the game give us battle set up options such as choosing ships that are in formations. I am not asking for total war type set up just give us pre battle screen in which we are choosing which ships are connected to other ships.

     

    I guess that Unity is not an engine for this kind of game (even ignoring recent developments in the unity itself) i assume that your code is spaghetti and that entire project was more of difficult learning experience of what not to do and a growing checklist of why you need different engine then Unity (at least that is how i feel the game right now)

     

    While i really love the game, and the it is improving, it still does not feel, like a finished product. It require few more pieces.

  4. @Nick Thomadis I (will speak for myself here) appreciate your work and fixes but game still feels to be 0.80 or 0.85 it needs a lot of work.

     

    There is aloot of adjustments and fixes needed and whole game feels like it was beta alpha atempt before real deal - i assume that this is due unity not supporting this type of game

     

    I am worried that next update will be just tokken new features some of which were promised earlier with many that are important for this game such as abillity to effortlessly download other people designs for campaign, ai tactics fixes and soo on being ignored with stamp of

    JOB DONE

    Could you please anwser in any way to address my worries?

     

     

    Game desperatly need a lot of new QoL improvements, deeper army simulation with our abillity to help army (give us deployable marine core for example) 

     

    A lot new hulls and i do mean at least 50 and some more imaginary i mean for and aft castle for example, tumblehome designs, we are restricted in the way we design ships and in the end only ships that are fun to design are early game terrible ones becouse atleast you may use your imagination

  5. Hi there so i played a bit more and have some feedback

     

    Game is awesome - that is fact. It is enjoyable but feeling of "not ready" "incomplete" or flat out "broken"  is something that returns over and over again.

    After some deliberation i have few issues with suggested fixes.

     

    1 - Formation system is most flat out infuriating thing in this game and main reason why my task force is always les then 20 ships. - Please have additional option in game to have ships: only in line abrest, line ahead or default formation when entering battle

    2 - lack of hulls in general and hulls that would support meta hurts game. We and AI (espiecally AI) should have acess to at least 1 hull a year. - Please add hulls such as nb torpedo battleship, tumblehome BC or aft castle type ships. I have the fact that only pre 1910 i can create interesting ships, especially when my preferred engagement range is 5km or less.

    Why i cannot put guns on elevated positions in older hulls? Why i cannot put barbets on those? Why i cannot decrease size of this hull more? Some things are to restrective which really hurts game enjoyment

    AI tends to stick to out dated designs to much - far far to much. They are definition of quantity over quality and that causes engagements in which 10 vs 30 (my vs enemy) is easy.

    Please have AI to design and build ships in batches one time per year with newest technology avalible and if not in war then scrap ships that are more then 5-6 year old.

    I know it is unrealistic but in this game ships from 1905 will win with better designed ship from 1900 any time.

    3 Steam workshop - please add option to easly share and download packages of ships for the AI (there is a lot of people that would love to make historically accurate ship models in packages to share) i know that those may be broken by updates but there is no point in delaying feature that would solve A lot of problems in the game

    4 UI - please move side windows that overlap so we can sea both (there is a lot of those that are flat out invisible)

    5 - Ship painting scheme - i know it is not a priority but ships do look really really boring and we should be able to add cosmetics to them

    6 - Nations should not collapse and disaapere from the map. They should change into minor nations (and potentially some major? playble?) - like GB turning into Scotland, Australia and India for example and if we won the war agains them we should be able to get some compensation

    7 - Limit political intereactions depending on cultural sphere. There is no point in China owning islands near Spain or Me (Italy) deciding to invade China and Soviet Union

    8 - There is alot of empty technologies in tech tree

    9 - Please simplify war reparation wndow with go to sign near provinces. I really do not know geography of South east Asia...

    Thats all i can think of.

     

    Great job so far guys, cannot wait for 1.4 :)

  6. Game is awesome but it still feel like beta - early access not a 1.3 version but 0.8

     

    @Nick Thomadis I always try to be positive and you guys are making awesome progress (i have bought the game after campaign in the most bare form was playable), but there are certain problems that fallow the game from the start.

     

    I want to start from the positive - i had a lot of fun. Alooot of fun playing Italy 1890 - improvements in relations with minor nations, finances and font size did a lot to help. (POLITIC WINDOW NEED TO BE BETTER ADJUSTED TO NEW FONT I CANNOT SEE WHAT I AM DOING THERE!!!!) General feeling of the game is spot on. AI is more competent (it still needs a lot of work) Ships built by it are better and weather effect really helped. Awesome job 

     

    Strange part of the game is that i felt that i could have had far more fun playing as minor nation forced to buy ships from major powers and be potentially attacked on their whim. I would love update that would give us option to play as minor nation - however i understand that this is not the scope of the game. I would be willing to pay for this as dlc even in the current state of the game (i really love this project)

     

     

    Bad things that need to be changed - Formation really does a lot to frustrate me. Especially in the lower visibility when i attempt to get ships in proper order (even with medium sized taskforce of 15-20 ships) resaults in fleets coliding in big (but enjoyable and stupid) mess

     

    I repeat this ofthen becouse i do belive it - we need to have more interesting hulls. I would not mind if those would be universal for many nations - we really need them.

    It would be nice if we had options of having marine corp becouse i get really angry at the army incompetence and i feel like we should be able to influence battles that are near shore provinces - prehaps i am missing something like a shore bombardment option but i tried alot of things and nothing seem to work.

    We also really need painting scheme for ships we own and deciding on naming convention.

    So yea... that was funny lol

  8. Hi all I wanted to share my recent story with the game which i think has alot of feedback and needed changes in it.


    I started (after long break) game as a china. 1890, historical, legendary. Japan declared war out of the blue (that was predictable) I won. Then i got ultimatum from nearly every other country on earth. So this is ridiculous mainly because of some imaginary slight i caused. I could believe it if the text went - sensing opportunity Italy decided to demand money or declare war.

    I mean in theory i can understand nations such as Austro hungary, Italy or Spain deciding to jump on the band wagon with colonial powers such as France and Britain that have possessions near me, USA i can understand too and Japan wanting a rematch.

     

    If message went something like that "Italy sensed opportunity in alliance against us" instead of "Italy demands us to pay compensation for our warships near their borders" It would be far better. I mean ffs i have all warships fighting Britain, Japan, USA and France right now, i really have nothing to spare to harass country few thousands miles from me.

    Changes as of now that i would love to see

    - In battle i can confidently fight outnambured 4 to 1 because AI is incapable of pressing advantage. Please program AI to use TB as suicide bombers because in game terms that is how they should be used with torpedo range of 500-900m and make them act in squadrons of max 2 ships. AI fights with tactics that i would expect from age of sails right now - and this is something i would like to mention btw, this game feels like it would be far better off if it was set in 1800-1850 instead of 1890-1950

    - Change text as mention above.

    - Torpedo solutions in some battles are bad like really really bad, unacceptably, stupidly bad. 

    - Formation need to improve with pre battle set up. It is something mentioned by a alot of people before and after getting back to game after longer break i see why. One of the biggest problem with bigger task force is set up after AI did some interesting things with putting my ships in a stupid pile. Few times i lost battle because of it.

    - Why sometimes damaged ships go to the port and sometimes not? I started a battle with a ship that had 0% structure

    - Ships surrendered after getting pommelled to death  which is by all means reasonable - but why did not i got it back after victory in battle (i destroyed all enemy ships) 

    - There is alot of missing items in research tree - in this case boilers (or rather lack of them) caught my attention

    - big qol improvement would be to have a go-too to see province that would be as a reperation. I will be honest i have not really that much of knowladge when it comes to port names of Asia (outside of the few big ones) and it would be nice to see them.

    - When i got back ahistorical borders of map were very much noticable it would be awesome to have more period accurate (i mean i do lol a bit seeing Poland with modern day borders)

    - We really should be able to just reffit entire class. It is qol improvement but really a big one

    - Uncap time acceleration - i know it caused some bugs but this really need to get fixed i had to alt f4 a battle because it took to long to sink my last bb i mean i already spent over a houer in it and it was really time to go sleep

    - ability to end battle with resaults you have and auto resault of what is left (if that how that works then sorry for reposting but i thought it is not)


    Additions 

    Officer system would be awesome

    Paint schemes would be great too

    More ship hulls in 1890

    Better port menagment

     

    - Waiting for a 1.3 over all nice job but i think you released the game to early i will be honest there is a lot of promised features missing and to fix. The game is just approaching the state in which i think it would be worthy to call it 1.0.0.



     

     

     

  9. Well i just had strange... strange war with russia and even stranger war with japan (which asked for peace after loosing 2-3 dds due to a submarines. One destroyer sunk and 3 destroyers damaged were worth 26k points.... i mean... i will be waiting for some fixes before progressing with game. I mean that was funny.

     

     

    AND PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD REMOVE POWER PROJECTION BASED BLOCADE UNTIL IT IS FIXED!

    TL:DR,   Don't Bother looking at the Penetration values as anything more than a way to compare which cannon is best for your boat...   The numbers are not going to "seem" accurate in the real world... but a gun with 20" penetration will do better at cracking any armor than a gun with 16" of penetration.

    Unless you are running Heavy shells and NO BARREL LENGTH   (we are talking sub 20 caliber which is nearly impossible at the point of the game you seem to be in given the 140% armor the AI has.)   you are hitting the sides of the ship and not the deck.  So no you are not going to penetrate the deck.  

     

    But to quote many a COB   "That is all fine and dandy, but this here is the REAL NAVY"

    The Penetration number is something that represents a "tested value"   It isn't ALWAYS correct and it isn't ALWAYS applicable.  

     

    Angle of Impact,   Velocity of impact, Quality of Armor, and actually ship motions ALL affect the amount of penetration (or if penetration is even possible.  

    In a laboratory all of those are for the most part controllable.   But in the real world (or the game in this case)   None of those are controllable by you, the player that fired the gun with 20" of penetration.  

    Hope that is helpful

     

    Also if you really want to learn about advanced armor penetration,   Get the data right from the expert (well via intermediaries)

    Badly given the fact that i chased of enemy fleet protecting MINE transports, that did not sustain any damage. I think i will give China a pass for some time or wait for some more fixes. :)

    This is the reason why Convoys need to stay around even if we accidentally destroy all their escorts first! :D

    i had one small battle 1 ca 1 cl and 1tb vs 1 ca 4 tbs

     

    My CA got damage (20%) and i lost 1 TB. Enemy lost 3 TBs and his CA also got damage  about (5-10%)

     

    My tb has about 750 tones his have about 450 tones so i lost

    750 vs his 1350.

     

    Why the hell did he got 1200 vp while i got 700?

    edit - example - most recent fight against Russia as Japan. I have sent the TBs and CLs on retreat after scrapping the screening force. I have 1 DN 13" and 2 CAs 11" battling a Russian DN. That DN at fairly close range is suffering 0.8 to hit. And is absolutely MANGLING mine. Critical hit after critical hit. Meanwhile, my 3 ships are struggling to even hit, with between 30-40%. What's more, when they do hit they are not penning the Harvey armor. While my Krupp is getting WTF pwned.

    I barely escaped with my bacon intact. With superior ships limping away.

    Yea... started legendary campaign. On the que Japan declers war after 1 year and i get nice small battle. My 1 ca (2x2 11.5 inch guns and 4x2 5 inch guns 2x2 per side). and for some reason my ship cannot score hits on 3-4 km distance against enemy cruiser which is heaply pounding me. So i check % and i have resonable 5-7 % hit chance while enemy has.... about 15-20%??? WTF? and TBs are like.... really bad i had one shoting torps to the wrong side....

  13. Well i have one small thing - nations that start in 1890 without ability to build bbs need a smaller hull of pocket battleships or something like that due to the way power projection is calculated.

     

    China which is very close to fight agains Japan is best example of it. I mean i would not mind being unable to build BBs but i get blockaded 1st turn of war...

    Well i do not agree with you. In my optics changes they made are for better especially regarding increased in customization of ships. 

     

    In fact i would argue that gun leanght that you can modify is necessery
