Ya know I watched the Hearts of Oak trailer and it looks pretty neat. Although they only show screen shots, it looks pretty good. It would be pretty interesting if that panned out because it appears to be completely made by moders. I'm wondering if it will be free.
I saw two videos about Hearts of Oak, they showed the ship's reaction to wind, and the ship actually went backwards upwind!
I tried to find it, but with no sucess :/

Hey Plerrick, that text was lovely :')
I too should have let my account die with FLS, but I made myself even more sad, with false hopes of a good Potbs in the future.
The age of Potbs (2008-2014) is over, there are other sailing games being developed, such as Wind of Luck, Naval Action and Hearts of Oak, from Pirates Ahoy. All these games are more recent, with more features and the world more dynamic!
I really cannot wait for Naval Action
-
I just like drawing things, mostly as orthographic projections. I usually try to put in as much detail as I can get confirmed by historic sources.
Having said that, it would be superb if this ship would collect enough votes for it to get included into Naval Action off course
Cheers,
Brigand
That drawing conquered me so I'll give my vote
You're a true artist, no kidding!

I'm trully impressed aswell! I really thought that the image had came from a book!
You're really passionate about that ship
-
Yeah, I know what you're talking about, thanks for the heads up!

..found it's history during the age of sail intoxicating.
Could you share more about the place's age of sail history? You got me interested!
-
Hmm, I see. Shame that the design came so late indeed.

I sailed the Van Hoorn for a really long time when I was just starting out in PoTBS and found it to be a very cool ship indeed! The van Hoorn I believe was modeled after a snow, whereas the Speedy was a brig. I'm not sure if the Speedy's design was implemented into PoTBS or not, but would have loved to be able to sail her!
Edit: The closest thing to Speedy I could find on the PoTBS Wiki was the Lexington Brig. Though there was a USS Lexington in 1776, she was a brigantine and her lines were completely different.
Hmm, the Speedy's design isn't in Potbs, the ship's timeframe reaches the 1800's. Potbs timeframe ends way before that, even flat decked frigates, from the Nelson era, aren't allowed in the game.
Btw, the Lexington in-game has a very strange thing in my opinion, the hull is too high up on the water, it looks like a ballet dancer standing on her big toe! I don't know if it's working as intended or not, all I know is that I haven't sailed that ship for long because of that.

The HMS Speedy's first image link shows a ship that makes me remember the Van Hoorn, a newbie ship in Potbs. It's a very cool model!

This is verging on the kind of ship interior layout as implemented by Perfect World in Star Trek Online. I approve!
I never played Star Trek Online but my research shows that a similar system for Naval Action could work well!
Although not every ship will have its own cabin model in my opinion. It would take up a lot of developing time and artist manpower that could be better used somewhere else.
I'm all for roleplaying in a good looking game like this one, cant wait for the avatar development!
-
Excellent! Was just sitting here and thinking and hoping it would be in. Also hoping we will be able to access the captains cabin. The ships looks beautiful, can't wait to see it in first person myself
I agree with you! Cabin access would give such a bump in roleplay! It would be incredibly awesome if several players could meet on each others ships, for planning purposes.

I would like to see D.Fernando II, a portuguese frigate that is currently fully restored and in dry dock.
The frigate could employ 50 cannons, 28 in the deck and 22 on the deck. Although it never took the full load since the ship was never used in battle, mainly for cargo transport and prisioners from Portugal to India and back.
Although I can't seem to find any ship plans, that's a major difficulty in getting this ship into the game :/
I would so enjoy seeing this amazing ship in-game!

Huh? The Raa was one the better PotBS models, too low poly for modern standards, okay, but it still looks quite nice. And it was a real ship, the contemporary plans for her and her sister ship can be found at orlogsbasen.dk.
Thanks for the support Bava! My suggestion remains, use a ship model and perfect it to modern standards, possibly minimizing developing time.
-
I didn't knew that the Raa frigate was a made up model, like the Oliphant...
Although my idea was to get a model and convert/perfect it, so there are more ship models to test.
It was just a suggestion, not an order
Merry Christmas!

Oh that's SO cool!
I wish I could see it, that GIF doesn't shows the deck a lot, it makes me drool in antecipation!

Hello Game-Labs!
I came up with a suggestion, 1st person camera mode. One thing that many people would like is to sail a 1st rate in 1st person view!
The sheer size of the ship, plus all the weaponry is a very cool sight, even cooler during a storm or battle, with splinters and powder smoke flying everywhere!
It doesn't has to be too advanced, something of the sort that Potbs has. There, the camera zooms in to the maximum, revealing a deck view that allowed for some cool moments despite the bad playability.
Or you can focus on the Assassin's Creed Black Flag's style. With much more detail, functionality and action that Potbs one.
I would so enjoy the deck view on the current available ship models, they are astounding!

That part I knew, just curious about how to be able to list this game. But I suppose it requires enough people with GPU's connected to the Nvidia cloud to play it.
Well, the Nvidia team needs to play Naval Action and fiddle around with the definitions. So far only a few people managed to be testers.
Geforce Experience won't work with Naval Action until it is released. So that the NDA can be lifted.

Here's a quote from a FAQ
Second, GeForce Experience optimizes graphics settings in your games based on your hardware configuration. NVIDIA performs extensive game testing for various combinations of GPUs, CPUs, and monitor resolutions and stores this information in the NVIDIA cloud. GeForce Experience connects to the NVIDIA Cloud and downloads optimized game settings tailored specifically to your PC.
And here's the FAQ link: http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience/faq
Hope this helps

Yeah +1 for your suggestion!
What I really don't want to see it's a ship of the line having its lower deck completely submersed due to the waves like Potbs shows. If that happened in real life, the ship wouldn't sail for a long time, and the crewmen that were down there would drown...
But that's another topic.
I really hope I can see the hull properly, it's a piece of art!
-
Thank you
Optimization will become a priority once we nail the Game-play.
That's great to know!
-
Hmm, something like what Potbs has? Not as visible though.

I always wondered where the hell was that ship... Afterall it wasn't implimented into the game...
I would like very much to see this ship in-game aswell!
