  1. Ok so some of us are moving resources and ships ready for map reset.  This is meaning that a lot of things are getting moved into capital or to ports that we know will be safe.  Then sit on your hands and wait? One thing I would suggest is that they broadcast this in the login screen. I have spoken to lots of people who dont read the forums.  The only reason I suggest this is because it will reduce the amount of incoming messages of 'what the hell happened!'.

Something like ' Map resets in 7 days ' ... message in login screen.

I agree that having a broadcast message for major upcoming events (such as a map reset, patch deployment, etc) would be useful, particularly to those players who don't read the forums on a regular basis or who don't log into game on a daily/regular basis.  They have done it in the past for the PvP 3EU server merger so doing so would appear to be feasible.

  2. Interesting idea about the different fish species.

I am not so sure though about them being sold for high prices in Caribbean ports.

I thought I recalled reading somewhere that nothing (ships, resources, goods, etc) would be able to transfer from Caribbean to Pacific (or vice versa).  A player could transfer back and forth but nothing else.  If you can transfer exotic fish across from one to the other than it runs contrary to the above.

Besides, fish would probably spoil in the transit (IRL) unless they were smoked, salted or otherwise preserved.

  3. You vote green while being at war, the War status will not renew itself if the score is less that the other War votes.

What happens is population keeps voting war, so everything goes as normal. Everyone votes. Majority wins.

True, but in order to vote for an alliance partner you must first vote for war against someone.

In order to vote you must vote for war against someone.

(Not that I am against war..war promotes PVP).

  4. I been binge-watching Da Vinci's Demons (isn't On-Demand awesome?), and in Season 2 he creates a 2-man submersible with paddles and ballast.  I wonder if that ever really happened, or if just theatrical?  The earliest I know of is The Hunley, so brilliantly depicted in the movie of that name (with Armand Assante....bonus!), civil war era.

Someone actually bested the Huntley by about 88 years:

Turtle, built by the US in 1775 for use during the Revolutionary War/War for Independence:

Edit:  Just noticed the post about the Dutch submarine.

So the Turtle was the earliest American submarine; and possibly the first submarine used in naval combat.

  5. It would be cool to have a notepad in game to keep track of personal logs for those that do role play. Although they could always use the blog on the forum for that. :)

An in Game note Pad would be cool (but a player could track that sort of thing using the Microsoft Notepad application as well).

A blog at NA forum would work as well. I think Pagan Pete has a thread in the Naval Actin Tavern where he recounts his adventures.

The clan that I am in has a "Ships Log" in the members only section of its website where members can create and update a log of their ongoing adventures.

  6. It would be nice if we could have in the game (beside attacking a smuggler trader) an option (let say where we have mission and duels) where we can have a few ships together in a practice zone for sailing in group.

While perhaps not exactly what you are looking for you could gather a group of people together and take a regular mission. Depending on the number of people you have together, the competition could be a bit lopsided, but it would allow you to work together, work on formations, etc. using Teamspeak (or other voice communication) would assist in coordination. Also, once you sink the AI opponent, your group can remain in the battle and sail around practicing the various formations, working on getting your ships in line and turning, etc.

Once you have this down the group could take a Fleet Mission against more numbers. (While the AI on your side might get in the way, this "chaos" adds to the confusion that can result in a port battle and help your group fine tune its coordination).

  7. Shipwrecks sometimes contribute towards marine life......in fact, in the future, ships will sometimes be intentionally sunk:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFU-g_1CVnk

These wrecks can contribute towards marine life and also promote tourism:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKVBtMjHu9s

I presume that you have nothing against "tourists" (some wearing colorful uniforms)  from Great Britain, the VP and other nations "visiting" your ports, do you?    ;)

  8. From the "Port changes next content patch" thread.

    From this thread.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you for your post.

It clarifies some things but brings up some other questions.

    You cited this quote:

In October resource map will change requiring reset of production buildings.

    regarding production buildings.

So if I have a level 3 shipyard, I would have to "reset" it (presuming that I have to build it again--correct?)?

Building a level 3 shipyard is quite expensive.

Would I receive a redeemable in gold (or a shipyard redeemable) so that I can set up/restore that shipyard to the previous condition that it was in?

    You also cited this quote:

    Quote

The free town status will switch from a port to another. All the player assets (outpost, ships, warehouse) of the ex -free town will be transferred to the new free town.

    It says "player assets".

If a clan has a clan warehouse, will the clan warehouse (and everything inside it) be transferred to the new free town?

    Thank you.

  9. Dear Admin:

    1. Free town status and free town assets exchanged switched with another port - to save players time.

The free town status will switch from a port to another. All the player assets (outpost, ships, warehouse) of the ex -free town will be transferred to the new free town. Also, all the player assets of the ex- normal port will be transferred to the new standard port. This change concerns those pairs of ports:

    • Island Harbour  -  Hat Island

    • Plymouth  -  La Désirade

    • Caño Macareo  -  Guayaguayare

    • Canalete  -  Dariena

    • Victoria  -  Santa Ana

    • Tordo  -  Tamiagua

    • Aransas  -  El Rancho

    • Barataria  -  Saint-Malo

    • Key West  -  Las Tortugas

    • Cabo Cañaveral  -  Cayo Biscayno

    • Sunbury  -  Saint Marys

If you had assets in one of those free towns (on the left), you will find them in the corresponding new free town (on the right). If you had assets in one of those ports on the right of the list, you will find them in the new port on the left of the list.

Example. You had assets in Las Tortugas. It became a free town. To save players time we moved his assets to Key west.

    [My bold emphasis above]

Do these "assets" include things such as buildings?

For example: if a player has a shipyard in one of the ports listed above, does their shipyard also move to the new port?

Do these "assets" include assets belonging to a clan (rather than to individual players)?

For example:If a clan has a clan warehouse in one of the ports listed above, will the clan warehouse and all the assets within the clan warehouse also be moved?

Thank you in advance Admin for your response.

  10. (A topic with that title under my name, surely must receive lots of clicks. If so, then I finally learned to get a topic title right. :P)

    A real life story:

I'm currently negotiating terms of a lease contract between two parties.

Neither party wants to file for a lease permit at the municipality.

Both parties want an admission to this from the other party in the contract.

(As to assert liability and damages.)

I'm trying to convince both parties that any admission of guilt makes them both equally liable. :D

(So it is better not to put in the contract any mention of the lease-permit. But I'm not allowed to advocate that, now am I? :P:ph34r: )

I'm not exactly sure what your exact job description in this matter is, but would suggest this:

You say that you can neither advocate for one side or the other, correct?

Would there be any prohibition from you speaking in hypothetical terms?  Not specifically speaking about one party or the other but simply making suggestions of a hypothetical nature and allow them to read into it?

  11. The DEVS really need to work on there skills of how they give us correct info or not.  If this is so than a lot of folks might be pissed cause it's not just us that have been breaking them apart to try to get the BP's

    .

When did the DEVS give information or the impression that breaking up these special event ships would get you a BP?

  12. May I remind you that when there is a port reset,  We (SPAIN) will have no allies but enemies as the only way to secure our port.  .  Spain will control most of the map for that first 12 hours.

I would think that in all best interest , would be to wage all out war on England by all nations.   Convincing USA will be easy but convincing the orange cloggers will be tougher.

Time to spin some Dutch windmills.

You think that convincing the US to go to war with England (GB) will be easy?

Spain allied with the Pirates against the US. Many US players remember this.

And since the politics mechanic was introduced the US has pretty consistently voted to be at war with Spain.

I think the chances of the US voting for war with GB (a serious war, not one intended to merely trade ports) in the near future are "slim" and "none".

  13. Cutch:

    Question:

You suggested that the pirates may be hired as mercenaries by other nations.

The pirates are not one united group.  They are made up of clans (both large and small) as well as independent pirates.

Who for the pirates decides which mercenary contract they should take?

Would all pirates be bound by this contract?

Would the contract be implemented as an in game mechanic (preventing the pirates from attacking any ships of the nation that hired them)? [You might have answered this in your original post]
What about pirate individuals or clans that disagree?

I'm not saying your idea doesn't bear some merit.

I'm simply raising some questions or potential issues.

Thanks and I will look for your comments.

  14. If that little Spanish player didn't show up we prob would of never caught you either.  He wasn't even part of our group that was running around after the battle.  We got BigMO's Buc's just after yours.

Got to say that was my first time in a SOL in a port battle and it was the free ship they gave us.  I still like Frigates and below, but it was a good fun and WAY TO CLOSE battle.  Talk about in the nick of time.

Yeah, a Bucantaure is going to have a difficult time outrunning a Rattlesnake.

On the bright side, I suppose that I can use the new redeemable Gunboat in place of the Bucantaure for port battles.   ;)

You guys left me enough crew to man that 'ship'.

  15. (Playing with my GB character on PvP 2) I survived that port battle, only to be ganked in a 7 vs 1 this morning as I was sailing south rounding the corner at Port Morant.

Well coordinated gank sqiuad consisting of pirates, US and Spanish.

    Enjoy my Teak Bucentaure.

I am off to the lowest of taverns and hovels in KPR to press gang a replacement crew.

PS: some awesome screenshots to the original poster.

I loved the view through the stern cabin windows.

  16. As Prater already explained, currently, ANY player can form their own one man clan to take advantage of the Clan warehouse feature.  This clan dockspace would be the exact same thing, only for ships.  So anyone (by forming a one man clan) would be able to take advantage of this.

And if I recall, the cost of starting a clan is minimal (100,000 IIRC).

  17. Thank you for designing alliances! This should be fun to test.  Any reason why instead of rounds of voting directly on alliances, you didn't go the "elect a leader who quickly decides alliances and enemies" route?  Seems like a leader and/or his foreign minister could negotiate alliances quickly, and in interesting ways that voting could never do...  that said, I'm very grateful for the new content, and looking forward to testing it!

I would disagree with having one leader decide something as important as alliances and enemies.

Something as important as that should require a consensus of the population. Having one person make such a decision could potentially result in unpopular decisions that are not supported by a majority of that nation. Another problem with one leader making those decisions is what happens if that player decides to take a pause/vacation from the game?

  18. Come all you swedish sailors, With swords and pikes advance

The black plague our seas invade, Destroy our commerce and our trade

'Tis time the reckoning should be paid to brave OCEAN boys

On board the Indagator from Gustavia we came

We had a bold commander and Shelby was his name

Our ship she mounted fifty guns, and on the main so swiftly runs

To prove to rats Sweden's sons are brave OCEAN boys

We sailed to the West Indies in order to annoy

The invaders of our commerce, to burn, sink and destroy

Our Indagator shone so bright, those Pirates could not stand the sight

And away they scampered in a fright, from brave OCEAN boys

'Twas on the 26th of July at Inagua we lay

And there we spied a rat just at the break of day

We raised the orange and the blue, to see if they our signal knew

The Indagator and its crew of brave OCEAN boys

Then all hands were called to quarters while we pursued the chase

With well primed guns, our tompions out and well spliced the main-brace

Then soon to the Pirates we did draw nigh, compelled to fight they were or fly

These words were passed: "conquer or die, My brave OCEAN boys"

Then loud our cannon thundered with peals tremendous roar

And death that on our bullets wings did drench their decks with gore

The blood did from their scuppers run, their chief exclaimed, 'we are undone'

Their flag they struck, the battle was won by brave OCEAN boys

Then to Parrot Cay we steered and brought her safe in port

The grand salute was fired and answered from the fort

And now a round the flowing bowl, with hearty glee each jovial soul

Drink as you fought, without control, my brave OCEAN boys

Now here's a health to Shelby, who did not fear the sight,

And all those OCEAN sailors who for thier country fight

And here's to the girls that we love most, my brave OCEAN boys

    z4ys, a sailor and a poet.  ;-)
