  2. Naval Action was at its best when it was striving for Naval realism. Naval Immersion. And then the disastrous Perk-patch came out and you can see on the Steam tracker that that is where a huge dip tok place… and then continued down.

Naval Action needs to get back to its root! F-ing Epic PVP fights with realism in them! The ocean was a BIG place! And battles between two ships were often over before anyone ever knew they took place. Just your ship, your wind knowledge, and your gunnery skills!
Everything else is just cosmetic, or worse… Destructive.

    • No player-AI fleets.
    • No physics defying mechanics
    • Get rid of the crossed sword so Revenge Gankers actually have to hunt for the fight without visual cues.
    • Temporarily disable ALL perks, until they can be reworked realisticly so that the dev team can...

    Focus on;

    • ship combat mechanics
    • Historically believable port battle mechanics with; land / fort / team-order's mechanics.
    • Have fair and realistic battle tagging mechanic!

    Naval action is combat!

Naval Action is Historical Brand (™) small-ship piracy!

Naval Action is Epic flotilla battles!

Say "Aye!" If ye agree! [_]P

finishing touches are done on the patch. pessimistic date next tuesday wednesday. if land in port battles start delaying us more (complex feature)  we will deploy earlier without them as the rest is almost ready

Will mounted Ship mods be redeemed?

  4. So I were sail in along the US east coast today, and spoiling fer a fight!

Right out of port, at the start of the live stream I comes in battle with a Privateer (which is really a Baltimore Clipper)  I pounds him into snort and he runs to the protection of th Essex which got pulled in. I pepper that for a bit, n then be on my way. The Live Stream was a nice success. I capped three warships,

    • including a sandbagging Alt account in a Pickle, going by the Name o 'Taiki'    Ha! Pagan Pete called it right at that start, & Ole Pete is too clever to fall into traps!
    •
    • Croline Vodka declined my 'invitation' to fight.
    •
    • Shout out to Winterhawk for putting up a fight! :)
    •
    • BIG shout out to John Swigglebottoms for sailing in a long way... twice just to fight me!

Sorry it baint in more story sense, But I be just too dang tired, n that be too much to say any hap! here be the link fin ye wanna watch the archive

    Hunting in the Phantom!

    Ta! zzzZZZ

  5. Arrr, A few tales from the Phantom.

I were out sail in n searching fer prey when I comes across a feller in a trade Lynx. Now I like this so i makes after him. He espies me a common and he turns to beat the wind! I also beat the wind and start closing in on the hapless trader. I tags him n prepares fer a fight! As combat begins, he is already in range of me guns, all I have to do is turn n fire. But first… I wanna close up the distance a lil. I quickly start a gaining ground on this feller. he sees this too… He furls his sails n strikes his couloirs!

I comme abord and greet thé captain. I asks him, i does "Ye surrendered, much appreciated. But why so soon?"

"Your ship is too fast. There as no point in prolonging the inevitable." then he mumbles under his breath "pirate scum!"

I thank him fer his wisdom in saprin his crew. So I haves them set ashore with provisions and a long boat.

I decide to make the voyage down to Charleston, having not been there in a while. Then suddenly I sees a SLRN Connie bearing down on me! He be looking fer a battle, trying to hang me er wot not...

As we face each other, I get me shouting on "You Sure ye wanna do this?" I asks him.

"Pretty sure." He responds haughtily… He has NO idea wot he is in fer...

So i bear up wind and start Jibbing to and fro, firing as I go. My lil 4 lb cannons do there work mightily! His long 18 lb scatter ineffectively! After a time my many, many small pecks start takin a toll on him! His shots do little to me, as only 3 of them made contact! I counted 58 hits on him! Ive done twice to his sails, wot he has done to mine! :D
Crestfallen, and aghast he breaks off. No victory here for him! No Makin a name fer himself!
Pagan Pete carries the day against a ship almost 10 times his size!
The crew cheered so loud the went hoarse! Lil Willy were laughing so hard, he done wet himself… which made the crew laugh… which made him laugh harder…which made me laugh…
It was a good time!

  6. Sit close be the fire n warm yerselves, lads.

So there I were, sail in in The Phantom… successor to the undefeated Banshee, pleasantly stealing a trade brig. All of the Sudden TWO US ships appear over the horizon! Its Airwolf and a mate of his! Now, I knows I gots time to finish the brig and crew her to make a run fer it. Ill despoil the cargo later at me leisure. So I send me Coswain and a dozen mens over and tell him to "Follow me".
Airwolf send up his signal flags and says "Ill get you in a fight someday. Win or lose, I WILL get you in a fight!"
To Which I says… "You may be waiting a long time! And you may not like it when you get me in battle!"

SO we returns to port and sells our loots! But the prize was small and the weather be fine, so we sails out again.

    Ten minutes later...

Who Do I come across? its Airwolf! and in a trade Lynx!
SO I close in on him from astern and the chase is on! We wind and weave our way though the shallows as the Phantom slowly reels him in! Soon enough, the battle is joined!

I says to him, I says "Well Someday came real quick, didn't it?"
And I open fire! BOOM BOOM BOOM! Chain shot rips though his canvas! I come up on his Port side as his crew desperately rigs new sails! BOOM BOOM BOOM, i fire again to keep em busy, BOOM BOOM BOOM, i fire again! he's new sails are down to 80% i reckon. Coming close along side now, I fire a broadside of grape ship and prepare to board!

Its not necessary, The crew are all injured or killed! The ship be mine!

I transfer his cargo to my ship, as Airwolf stands tied to his own mainmast watching… Watching as I lead lil Sven the cabin boy by the arm to my ship.
Airwolf baint din much talkin' and I soon discovers why! Labor Contracts and such! Negotiable Labor Contracs and copper coins! Pay-Day fe the crew!

I smugly  clap Captain Airwolf on the shoulder, and leave him for his wounded crew to release.

Twas nice to seem him again so soon. :D

  7. Bermuda Cedar is fine the way it is, except for one glaring oversight. Cedar burns with incredible ferocity! The reason is that Cedar woods are full of volatile oils. These occur naturally in the tree to act as a natural insecticide. This is why clothing chests and wardrobes were made from cedar, it killed the moths.

Cedar ships should have a much harder time putting out a fire due to the highly flammable nature of the wood.

  8. Tagging for battle: Not fun because the draw circle is so large, I can't get in a 1-on-1 fight.

Player AI fleets: Not fun because it gives people an immunity bubble against 1-on-1 fights. Forces gank-fleets to occur.

Non-skill modifying perks, such as Determined Defender, because it cancels out your skill and effort unrealistically… which is frustrating.

    Thank you.

  9. The size of the Pull Circle should be scaled down with the attacker's BR.

The smaller the BR, the smaller the pull circle.

This would prevent small ships from having to deal with hoards of AI ships every time they want to attack one ship.

This would prevent our new players, and anyone in a small ship, from being constantly overwhelmed by AI fleets (which are far too numerous IMO).
