  2. What is interesting is

    A) The timing between this, and the SLRN trying to rally Sweden

B The Fact you can count all DRUNK members on 2 hands.

    C) The Fact DrunkenSloth here has a Union Jack in his Forum Avatar

    D) The Fact he feels the need to ALSO post a Rally Thread in forums despite the obvious defeat of his nation.

couple of brits rolled sweden recently? :D

  3. Admiral Jones has had too much gin, send him to bed before he and Admiral Caldwell unite all nations against the real enemy, the 88 port monster that is the British.

    actually slightly more i counted:

    Ports owned:

    1)Brits: 94

    2)Pirates: 51-53

    3)US: 48

    4)Dutch: 38

    5)Danes: 38

    6)Spanish: 35

    7)French: 19

    8)Sweden: 1

  4. . While your members are griping about us not helping you you didn't help yourselves we could not send ships to counter the Danes because of the timers they had set and that we were heavily engaged with the Pirate clans who had us fixed in Haiti.

I think the Dutch / Danes might have had a little something to do with that Llewellyn.  ;)

  5.

A real rivalry in Sport, National Pride and now in Naval Action

Do the Swedes give in so easily to any of the above?

    Then Fight Sweden, Fight!

    .

Not only is "Do the Swedes give in so easily" quite a big insult to your allies.  You seem to be missing the fact that they lost ALL their ports except their capital. I'm slightly dumbfounded at this thread.  I hope this was a brief lack of judgement Charles.

There was last night a council meeting between the leaders of the Danish, Dutch, French and Swedish nation, to which we came to an agreement that no more hostilties should exist between our nations, except those of controlled, friendly PvP.  The reason for doing so was in the interests of sustaining healthy communities in all involved nations, especially Sweden.

Militarily speaking, Sweden was economically obliterated, and their hopes of fielding, crafting or maintaining large SOLs were only dreams.  In that light, I do not really understand this post.

Though I'm glad you have recieved opposition from the Swedes and French on this matter, if the opposite was true, you'd spark up yet another war, in which one of the main priorities for the Dutch/Danes would be to keep Sweden as a 1 port Nation. Why fight 3v2 when you can fight 2v2?

This thread is encouraging what we spent a good 2+ hours yesterday trying to fix.  You, on the behalf of the SLRN, are insulting your allies Charles, and have no care for their interests & Community. In that light this thread is probably better deleted.

  6. However entertaining this squabbling is, it is worth bearing in mind, I think, that being polite to your enemies is not wasted courtesy as you never know when they may be your allies.

As far as ganking goes, I've seen and heard frenchies do it, and whilst I'm not aware of any DAS / BOAT members beating up on newbies, I wouldn't be completely shocked to hear it happens. So let's discourage it as much as we noble leaders / officers can, and give each other the benefit of the doubt.

  7.

As for the comment about seal-clubbing.. yeah, I won't even bother. Some people just can't be taught. So much salt; people need to learn to be gracious in both victory and defeat, lest they begin to look petty and ungentlemanly!

Cmooon It was pretty funny :P

The picture made me laugh very hard on teamspeak just now :D

  8. Hello!

I just wanted to briefly touch upon the fact that these ranks do not exist. I get a strong feeling the Devs have something in mind for this, and I figure there is a reason why Rear Admiral is the top rank.

However I'd just like to throw in a suggestion.

I believe the ranks as we know should be scaled down and the top rank: rear admiral should only give 650 crew. I think the ranks Admiral (1100 crew) Vice admiral (1000 crew) should be introduced as guild unlock able ranks. There should be 2 admiral rank and 3 vice admiral ranks a guild can unlock, and obviously these would be the guys expected to sail in the 1st rates / 2nd rates. (I chose only 2 and 3 because once guilds work together more 1st rates will be together)

This would not condemn people to 3rd rates for their entire naval action career, as the ranks can be refreshed every week. Meaning if the best 1st rate captain in EDR for example can play week 1, but is going on holiday in week 2, at the beginning of week 2, the rank can be assigned to someone else.

Each rank would cost more after each unlock in the same fashion as outposts currently are.

This would greatly help limited the amount of larger ships we see in battles. Whilst adding another carrot infront of our players.

    Thoughts?

  9. Hello!

Recently I've been reading up on a large amount of historical engagements, some of which turned the tides of war. The battle of the Nile, The battle of translation, the battle of Copenhagen etc.

I figured it would be fun to get a list of battles submitted by fellow captains and compile them into a poll.

Essentially you need to submit your favourite battle with the reason why it is your favourite and historically important. Also include an MVP if you wish , and a wiki link to the battle would also be lovely!

    I'll start!

    Submission by Monkey bullet: British

I WAS going to choose the Battle of Copenhagen but I've decided to go with The Battle of Toulon.

In this fight a combined Franco Spanish fleet fought off a much superior British force temporarily ending the British blockade and allowing Spain to deliver troops and supplies to their army in Italy.

This French side actually only joined the conflict when they saw the British floundering under Spanish guns. Shortly after France declared war on Britain.

I rather enjoyed this bit of history as, despite being a big British patriot, it reminds us even the mighty can fall, and it is easy to forget such losses neath the shield of victories achieved by other famous British Admirals

  10. Haha that made me chuckle Galileus, you French custard cream.

I do agree with Piet though. I have no sentimental preference on which Dutch flag, Being an Englishman myself but I certainly wouldn't say no to the rather charming orange white blue flag shown in one of those pics in the interests of contrast between the Dutch and French if it is indeed historically correct

  11. Hello!

As the last one seemed to be rather popular, and compiled a bunch of suggestions into one, ease to see and votable post, I figured I'd make a new, updated one. These are some ideas that people have already made, some that i've tweaked a bit, and some of my own.

Please vote and see below for a description of each Idea.

    1) Trade Routes & Alliances.

Essentially, this is very dependant on the alliance function being introduced, but enchances it, AND the port battle system. On top of that, it brings another end game feature into the game, which we sorely need.  When at war, blockading was not unusual, and the disruption of trade routes common.

Below is a very rough image of trade routes which give 20% passive profit/production [from free towns], and once two nations become allies, the trade routes are activated to give even further profit + production.  Whether a nation has allies or not, their trade routes are assaultable at all times, but cannot be permently captured.

    trade_route_idea.png

The trade route would also require a defense timer, an assault fleet to be made at port, and if the battle is won by the attackers, for 24 hours all production bonuses to the owner nations ceases.  After the 24 hours, it goes back to normal. [the image is extremely rough]

    2) Pirate Mercenary Guilds

I believe pirates should have a unique to the game, guild mechanic which allows them to employed under a particular nation as mercenaries.  This would allow the game to take a giant, VERY simple step to balancing out the nations.  Each guild would have honour reputation depending on their dedication to fill out a contract, and would recieve bigger rewards + bonuses for aiding smaller nations that attempt to employ them.  For instance, the spaniards at the moment may enter negotiations with a certain large pirate guild and ask them to take at least 4 ports under the spanish flag. As Spain is the 6th smallest nation in the game, for each port the pirates take, they recieve 6X xp / Honour / Money, whatever you choose.  Vice versa, if they decided to join up with the brits, who have the most ports, they'd only get x1 [normal] xp.

    3) Maps. EDIT  The global map should be broken down into fairly smaller sections. Much like a puzzle.  Each section requires a map, and to complete the entire map as we see it now, you'd need to somehow acquire 20 or so map pieces [though realistically depending on your location you'd only need to run with about 3-5].

Here's the catch. Each map piece has a wear and tear expiry date [it decays over time and is destroyed after 1 week].  So you may have 6 maps on day 3, but only have 4 on day 5.

You'd aquire map pieces through ordinary activies such as capturing ships or completeing missions / port battles.  Said maps can be traded between captains to add more economic options and fun!

See below picture of how this may work. Each segment is a map piece.

    4) After Action Combat Reports

Very simple request. After a large port battle or fight, i'd like to know exactly who did the most damage to players, ports etc in the form of a battle scoreboard. I'd like to know whom to fear and to make the enemy fear me!!

  12. Er, no.

It is unrealistic to think of limiting a player's choices based on the amount of time they have to play. Everybody paid the same for the game. Saying that you have to be playing X, Y, or Z hours to be eligible for 'the good stuff' is just going to lose the game an awful lot of players. Word will get around and income will be lost because casual players won't even bother buying it.

Hardly, humans by nature are extortionists. We always want more. Which is why I spent all that time grinding up from level 1 to 70 in world of Warcraft, 1 to 80 in guild wars 2 etc. your argument is against the long grind, the hours needed to gain all the end game stuff when intact in almost every major successful game, the grind is exists and is much worse.

The grind is also MUCH more relevant in this game as it helps you gain that much needed skill and experience that you'll sorely need against players who already have 2,500 hours invested in the game.

  13. I agree that 1st rates were nuclear weapons that day and should be very rare and 2nd should be uncommon but I think 3rd rates should be the main force of the fleet (historicly accurate).

And that people who are not part of a fleet should be in frigates as solo players.

Also I think that instead of limiting the numbers that can join a battle, we should limit the total amount of 1st rates and 2nd rates by making them way harder to get and to maintain, a 2nd should be for player who are spending a lot of time in the game, and a 1st rate should be a guild goal and otherwise (almost) unmaintainable.

This should be done true high maintenance costs and crafting costs, and not by a protective mechanic that they can't enter battles.

And please people should already be happy with a large frigate/3rd rate because the argument that people always need to have the best thing there is will ruinn this game for me by killing the realism.

Just mu thoughts on this one. ;)

Plucked the words out my mouth. +1 to this. Spot on.

  14. Really happy with the stern risk and damage being increased. By damage though what exactly do you mean? At the moment the stern can be completely destroyed with 1-2 great broadsides. However even fully destroyed, it causes barely any leaks and does not take on water. Please ensure (very much like the bow) that you DO take on water from a destroyed stern.

Also massive crew kills even from normal balls on a destroyed stern should exist.

  15. Hello Captains.

It came up in a moderators chat and we would like to discuss the problems of Spain as a nation with you. Solving those problems will help other nations experiencing the same issues in the future.

Some of the problems spain is experiencing are not intended as we expected Spain to be one of the most populated nations (like it was in POTBS)

Current priorities do not allow fixing the problems immediately but in the future we plan to address them.

    Current ideas.

    • Alliances system allowing port entry for allies and their participation in port battles
    • Limitations on flag purchases to slow down expansions for large nations (harder to address)
    • Spanish language advertising to bring more spanish players into the game - your help is needed here too
    • Hard limits on the number of players in nation (a-la other mmo games).
    • Underpopulated nation bonuses.

Please share your concerns and proposed solutions in this discussion.

This is a topic I am rather passionate about, and have several suggestions that may aid you here.

Taxes and Defense timers I believe are the answer.

Defense timers: At the moment on each port there is a two hour window allowing other nations to capture it.  We have the time, I believe introducing days is the next step.  At the moment, smaller nations such as the spanish are slightly overwhelmed at the daily barrage that is 2-5 port caps, causing frustration, disorgnisation and boredom.  EVERY day is committed to trying to hold back the onslaught, with no time for meetings, grinding and other guild formed activities.

Introducing day defense timers:  Make each port open to assault 4 days a week, leaving 3 days free to grind, regroup etc, and let the lord protector choose the days in the same way they can choose the times at the moment. So for example if I just captured a port, I could choose any 4 days out of the week, with the same time 6-8 / 7-9 etc.

Taxes. To reduce the ease of access in leaving fleets in free towns right in the centre of enemy territory. Introduce tax which charges the player each day a certain amount depending on the ship.

I also believe the increased cost of flag crafting is still far too generous. The flag I believe should be closer to 1 million gold to buy [but with the current incomplete mechanics, they are probably best at the current price.]

[sorry for the rushed reply, in a battle! :D ]

  16. For goodness sake. Why must it become all about crying, whining, pointing fingers etc. this is supposedly a mature community and it is better left in that state. My opening statement noted that my opinion is completely unbiased and I can assure you whatever nation I'm, whatever side I'm on, if there is a flawed mechanic as serious as this one I will point it out. You believe I deserve scolding for this?

I have also made several port battle threads in the past week that have thankfully NOT ended in heated arguments and pointed fingers which can support that.

  17. how many times must it be repeated that the mechanic is broken no matter who uses it Tabernac? Literally RIGHT above your post is me explaining any side using it, whether it be French, Dutch, British, Swedish is NOT to blame for a very flawed mechanic, it is up to the Devs to fix it!! Are you trying to troll, or do you genuinely need it spoon fed to you?
