First Impressions

I'd like to lead with noting that this game looks and sounds great. I also really like the UI. This looks like it's shaping up to be epic. Well done!

A few things I'd like to see improved in rough order of importance:

  • Union moral needs to be improved - I think we all know that the Union formations weren't as durable as their Confederate counterparts, but, currently, it seems really unbalanced.
  • Defensive terrain needs to be improved - It feels like terrain doesn't really matter much. I move guys around with less of an eye for terrain and just trying to flank. I think elevation should matter much more. It's really, really hard to push up a hill and be expected to go hand to hand immediately after.
  • The ability to dig in - So I win a minor victory or draw on the first battle as the Union, I choose to fallback, and my troops start really far forward. When I do get them into what should be a formidable line, they just stand there. In reality, they would start improvising field defenses that would make frontal attacks so dangerous and presage the coming of trench warfare. As it is now, all the confederates have to do is blob the salient and huzzah. This mixed with that last point makes creating a line of defense an after thought and really not doing justice to the tactics of the time.
  • Would like to default artillery to target other artillery or infantry, maybe also select closest/strongest/weakest etc
  • Reduce the default game speed and allow for time compression
  • I didn't test this, but give orders while the game is paused (it this is possible please ignore)
  • Would like a prompt when reinforcements have arrived.
  • An order of battle menu would be nice to see who's on the field and when reinforcements are expected.
  • Can't wait for oblique movement

Great game, hope the above is on the agenda.
