Finding missions

Hi guys. I've only played Naval Action for a few hours, I purchased last night. Anyway I'm struggling to find where my search and destroy missions are located. I've looked on the map and headed directly to where the crossed swords were. It seemed like I was sailing for a long time, and since there's no tracker on the map it's hard to get a sense of scale of the map. Like, I don't know if I sailed right passed it or I didn't sail enough, because I don't know the scale of the map and how long it takes to get to certain distances.

 

Anyway, any advice would help

Hello Capn Jack Rackham and welcome ! Sometimes when it's foggy and the mission is far away from the coast, it's possible to miss the icon. The best way is to estimate as accurately as possible the direction you have to sail to from the port you are in. Usually the missions aren't more far than 10-15min from the coast. If you didn't see the icon, reverse your course to the port.
