Buy now, playing via Steam later - with same Account?

i would also like to set sail shortly, but the relaunch at steam is still tba.

will there be problems to continue playing with a now existing account via steam later?

Steam keys will be given to anyone who buys the game now if that is what you are asking.

oh, that's good.

i initially assumed that this is a standalone version and immigration to steam later might be problematic.

so i could buy it now and after release the version would be in steam as already owned and i could continue playing there (or possibly start over incl campaign etc) - without creating a completely new account.

No the Dev team will be sending steam keys to everyone who purchased a copy eligible for play testing (if there are even two versions like when I bought now). So you will have to redeem the key on Steam, then download. I do not imagine they will migrate existing saves or anything. It may be possible to do it manually, assuming the steam release does not majorly change the code.
