    Hello Admirals,

There is a new update to check out and some interesting news!

    v1.5.1.1
    https://steamcommunity.com/games/1069660/announcements/detail/4195742629914367846

Multiplayer sounds cool, and I would be interested in purchasing it when it comes out in a playable state. However, I found something in the patch notes that makes very little sense:

    - Balanced the accuracy system, so that the difference of accuracy between short barrel and long barrel length guns is not as vast as before, simulating better the effects of gun barrel erosion. In certain cases the extreme length of the barrel will be overall not as effective for accuracy at long ranges. The gun length for your designs should be now offering more options, than forcing you to maximize the length and become overpowered vs the AI.
    - Adjusted the Battle AI to the new accuracy system.

I noticed that when I am playing, the longer guns cant hit the broad side of a barn, even at point blank range, while guns with horrible velocity and highly arced trajectories hit more often. I saw nothing wrong with the previous accuracy system, and if anything, the design capabilities of the AI need to be vastly improved, rather than kneecapping players with ahistorical nerfs. I am fairly certain that the AI ships have been the butt of many jokes ("clown cars", etc.) since I started playing back in the alpha days. Previously, longer barrels were balanced out by the longer reload times and heavier weight, which seemed to be perfectly fine. In regards to the barrel erosion argument, the propellent has far more to do with erosion than the length of the barrel, and as such, accuracy modifiers tied to erosion should be tied to the propellent and not the barrel length. I will probably be playing on the last version until this gets rolled back or properly fixed.

an interesting paper on gun erosion:

After optimizing the game to a good level, we will continue with the next major patch and the addition of new ship hulls.

here are some suggestions for new hulls/groups of hulls:

    • unique Austrian, Chinese, and Spanish hulls and towers for late eras (1930+)
    • Tillman-type super dreadnoughts for the late dreadnought era (1920-1928)
      • some modernized variants would be cool too
      • similar size to Chinese  and Austrian modernized dreadnought 2
    • destroyer escorts/frigates (1940+)
      • put in TB category
    • add all of the newer towers to the older hulls
      • a lot of older Russian and Italian hulls are missing their respective newer towers
    • one of the USA standard battleships (Nevada Class to Colorado CLass)
      • could be scaled up to make the Tillmans
    • speculative German modernized dreadnought
    • Japanese fast battleship hull

    [Update 6]
    - +15 New hulls increasing the total new hulls of the current beta to 57 (a few more will be added). The list is too long. Please read the total list of hulls added which became updated.
    - Various and many fixes and improvements on old and new hulls.
    - Fixed temporary issues with scale for some new quad guns. Please report if you find any remaining inconsistency.
    - Auto-Design optimizations.
    - New balance on armor, and ship weights.
    - Battle AI adjustments.
    - Port Strike missions that have no opponent have now a "Withdraw" option.
    - Various repairs to issues with LOD of hull parts. This fix should increase fps performance in constructor and combat.

Please note: Saves had to be reset due to the magnitude of fixes and repairs which would make many of designed ships to break.

Please Restart Steam to get this update fast.

The update looks alright, except for these few issues:

As it stands, armor is about 50 percent too heavy in the late game, especially on the main turrets. currently, a Yamato turret in game weighs about 4100 tons, compared to the real life example that weights 2800 tons. Given the current weight of armor, it is impossible to replicate a Yamato battleship in-game. If anything, 1.3.9 armor was far more realistic.

Another thing I noticed is that the "Hull size" doesn't actually have anything to do with the size of the hull, and seems to be there to artificially buff/nerf armor  on certain hulls. For example, the USA modern heavy cruiser 1 has a hull size stat greater than all of the USA modern battleships, despite being a fraction of the size. I think that the "hull size" stat should be tied directly to displacement instead of the arbitrary listing currently in-game. Something similar should also be done about the resistance stat as well.

Another thing that I noticed is that damage bleeds far too easily into the citadel, which means a few big HE hits to the fore and aft can sink a ship without ever penetrating the citadel, which makes armor even weaker than it already is, especially on ships with poor resistance stats like USA and Britain.

  4. I noticed ever since the shared design system was added that there is a strange bug where if you have multiple shared designs for a certain era ship, like a 1920 British battlecruiser, and set the shared designs setting to always, it seems to choose the designs randomly from the pool of existing shared designs rather then the one I selected.

With 1.4 not too far off, I would certainly like to see this rather annoying bug fixed so I don't have to restart the battle a few times to get the ships I want.

I think I have submitted at least a few bug reports on the matter, including one today.

  5. With 1.3.4 out, this would probably be my current list of things I would like to see fixed/improved

    1. fix pitch and roll. they worked perfectly fine  before 1.3.
    2. add the newer nation specific towers to the older beta-era hulls
    3. more large modernized dreadnoughts for more countries, like the chinese and austrian modernized dreadnought 2
    4. unique chinese, austrian, and spanish hulls and towers. right now ,they are basically filler nations with only copy/paste hulls and towers from other nations.
    5. mod/steam workshop support

    Beta Update v1.3 "Build 9"
    - New USA ""Dreadnought IV"" with a displacement between 28,500 and 39,500 tons, as an enlarged variant of the New York class battleships, and is available from 1914 to 1926.
    - New USA ""Dreadnought V"" with a displacement between 32,500 and 44,500 tons, available from 1919 to 1926.

Seeing as in game the old USA "Dreadnought IV" hull, will we be getting a hull of similar displacement (50-70k tons) to replace it? As it stands, the USA currently has a large size disadvantage compared to other fleets from about 1920 to 1930.  Almost everyone else can field 70k ton dreadnoughts while the USA can only construct dreadnoughts up to 50k tons during that time, and the player would have to wait until modern battleships to have competitively sized ships again.

    Hello all,

Please have a little patience with the weather as the randomization system is not working yet as it is expected, with varied weights according to weather and daytime. So very frequently you might get too bad weather. We will add the complete randomization in the next update soon.

Please share feedback on other things of the campaign which need our attention, excluding the much repeated known issues we will address, such as the common alliance.
It would help to know if the current financial balance of the campaign is too generous or it is challenging enough.

What I notice about the state of finances in the campaign is that I tend to scrape the barrel in the first few years, and than accumulate a massive stockpile of tens of billions of dollars when a war comes around, which then makes finances a non-factor.

    Hello again Admirals,

New and important fixes are available!

    Hotfix Update v1.1.5 1/2/2023
    https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1069660/view/3656395357997444457

Big guns still need a giant buff. they currently have shit base accuracy compared to 12 inchers, very low muzzle velocity compared to smaller guns of similar calibers, and painfully slow reload times that are still more than 2 minutes even with autoloaders. In the range department, these guns can't shoot out to their designed range due to artificially nerfed accuracy. As of now, the only things going for them are pen and damage, which simply aren't enough to warrant their use except on niche ships.

  10. Here's a big list of stuff I'd like to see in the game before final release:

    • FIX ALL THE BUGS, notably:
      • hawaii is glitched on the campaign map
      • "select ship of the required type", mostly happens when the custom_battle_data file is too big
      • reload on big guns is way too low still, even with autoloader 2
      • Muzzle velocity for big guns is too low fixed in 1.1.4 broken again in 1.1.5
    • HULLS
      • USA standard battleship and Tillman battleship (could reuse some of these parts for a Lexington BC shipset)
      • German Scharnhorst/Geneisenau
      • treaty era cruisers in general
      • more light cruisers and destroyers in general
      • unique chinese, spanish, and austrian late era shipsets, even if they are fictional designs unique to UAD
      • retroactively apply newer towers to older hulls, like:
        • Russian modern battleship 1, 2 and super battleship 1
        • Italian Modern Battleships 1 and 2
        • Spanish, Austrian, and Chinese battleships if they get new shipsets
    • CAMPAIGN
      • dedicated refit for removing ship flaws
    • NEW MAPS (the endless ocean does get a bit boring sometimes)
      • different coastal maps for invasion missions
      • different colored oceans for different regions (not all oceans are the same color)
      • icebergs for polar areas
        • icebergs would be static objects that deal ramming damage when hit by a ship
    • EXTRAS (it'd be nice to have these, but i'd be okay if they weren't there)
      • Steam Workshop compatibility to make sharing designs a bit easier
      • basic FFA multiplayer arena???

  11. While this update is certainly better then the 1.09 dumpster fire, there are some thing that could use fixing, notably:

-muzzle velocities for large guns (16in+) are way lower than they should be, currently they are about 20 percent slower than real life examples.

-smaller guns have more  muzzle velocity than larger guns of the same length in calibers. 12"/60 guns have about 900m/s velocity, compared with about 700m/s for a 19"/60 gun

-too many deck hits at close range, probably has something to do with low muzzle velocities.

-weird shotgunning effect from main guns at close range.  simple fix would be to limit the angle of dispersion to 1 to 5 degrees depending on gun mark.

-too many partial pens and overpens, even at close range.

    - Fixed a hull availability issue for the Italian "Small Semi-Dreadnought".

please add it back as a joke

I know it isn't exactly supposed to belong there but it was quite funny to build memeships on the thing.

at least the spanish armored cruiser 2 is still available for memeing...

  13. I think there are still a number of problems with this update that need fixing before release, namely:

    • campaign stability (game hanging up or bricking the computer between turns)
    • ship maneuvering, namely the excessively unrealistic oversteering which warrants micromanaging the entire fleet's maneuvers.
    • stormtrooper level accuracy for larger (16+ inch) guns. they are already burdened with long reloads and heavy weight.
    • abnormally low muzzle velocities compared to historical examples
    • displacement caps for shared designs. hacking larger designs in is a pain, and sometimes I just want to fight a super battleship that is competently designed.
