I've only noticed the AI do it when it decided it was at a disadvantage, but agree it is a lame tactic due to current rules for custom battles (i.e. sink all ships). It is one thing to run when there is a chance of escape, but since withdraw is not an option the AI just tries to run in circles away from you. Without other changes to the battle rules, the AI needs to fight to the death not run like a coward.

I've seen it do it when they outnumber me 2-1. As I said, ALWAYS, WITHOUT EXCEPTION.

  2. Custom battle observation.

So AI heavy ships ALWAYS, WITHOUT EXCEPTION put you on their quarter. Regardless of the situation, that is what they will do. Even if you are beyond their range to attack you.

With the AI's propensity to build speed boats, this devolves into a chase. It's very predictable and very frustrating, because at long rang there is NOTHING you can do about it.

Can this be looked at with some alacrity please.

Maybe there is nothing to fix here? Just usual human inability to comprehend probability in a rational way, especially gamers who aren’t wargamers.

Oh sure, the game is perfect. /sarc

So says a wargamer for over 30 years.

So can you actually elaborate on what happened? Not asking for a play by play, but how exactly were your BBs sunk? Flash fire detonation? What ranges? Did the AI happen to hit your towers?

Excessive fires. He was hitting me so often that the ships couldn't put out the fires fast enough. Ranges varied between 13k -> 20k. Flash fire has never been a problem for me. Never had one on a ship I've designed.

I have a good reason to assume what you did by the way you wrote it down, and if you don't want others to do that be more informative don't blame game mechanics for your lacking and be more nice. At any point I didn't shut you down and you could always brighten things up.

I have more then 400h in this game, I like it and I think you over reacting, the RNG isn't broken, it is the poor execution of the player who makes it so or the assumption of humans that think there is no grey in a world of black and white.

Sorry to tell you but you are wrong. Look up, in history and gaming pages there are numerous situations where that happened and still happens, welcome to real life.

If it would have happened the other way around would you have been reacting the same or had a proud smile on your face?

You arrogant little turd. 🤬  Length of play doesn't confer wisdom about how the game is programmed.

I gave the pertinent information. You assumed, with no evidence whatsoever, that my tactics were at fault. Name me one instance of a 1/2 crippled, obsolete capital ship outfought and sunk 2 modern counterparts. You can't, it's never happened in modern history.

White knight the game all you like. You've just made my 1st candidate on my ignore list.

I think you just closed in on him and circulated around...

And the basis for your assumption? No legitimate one that I've given you. Don't assume things you have no reason to. It gets people annoyed.

Even if that is what I did, a 1/2 crippled grossly inferior ship shot not be able to do what that one did.

edit: went over your description of events again, it seems more of a poor execution by your side. I didn't saw it myself so I might be wrong but it sounds like you used poor tactic when engaging and you mistaken the outcome of it of the RNG.

And what tactic would that be?

  8. Yes I know, selective memory etc ... no! Don't mention it. Don't want to hear it.

    My 2 Modern UK BB's, 9x 14", 16x5".

AI BB's turned out to be 10x13" each. Also about 15k tons lighter. Slower. Thinner, lower quality armour, etc.

So I put down one of them with no problem. The other is 1/2 dead. My hit chance is about 15% @ about 15k. The wreck of the ai ship is about 6%. He's down to about 30@ health, couple of turrets out. All of a sudden, he's hitting me 2-3 times a broadside, and I can't hit him at all. Zigzagging didn't do anything. I'm doing 20 kts, him about 7. By the end of the battle, he has sunk both my ships.

That's plain garbage. It was literally like a light switch, didn't matter what happened, no hits for me, multiple every salvo for him.

Rng IS NOT WORKING. Don't say otherwise, will ignore such claims it is.

I'm starting to notice something. A lot of the new hulls have flagpoles on the bow and stern but no flag but the old hulls do. Now it could just be the Devs just forgot to add the flags but I'm hoping this is a set up add our own custom flags in the future.

Most warships don't have flags on the ensign/jack staff at sea. Those flags shouldn't be there in reality.

These are some secret anti submarine guns xd

When silent hunter 4 was released, you could have ships completely capsized, but still steaming at full speed. The theory behind that? Secret underwater binoculars!

  11. Right now, no it isn't.

The AI is absolutely terrible at designing ships.

And the preview video that I saw is nothing like the ship designer in the game. In my opinion this is a borderline bait and switch. If the release version of the game doesn't have something approaching that designer, I'll be a very unhappy camper.

  12. It seems to me that as soon as a ship takes even the slightest damage, they won't keep up to the formation speed, no matter what it is set at.

I had a division of 4 Battleships, max speed 28.5 knots. Max division speed was 23 knots. As soon as they took ANY damage (including a ricochet), the ship speed headed south of 20 knots. Nothing I could do to make them speed up.

Formation keeping has taken a dive with this patch, in my opinion.

I wouldn't say there is a best citadel, they for the most part have their niches. very odd to be getting flashed with cit 5 however.

Bulkheads right now are super overpowered, I would suggest bumping that. Steeltrap doesn't doesn't even play with ships below "many" bulkheads. Personally, unless I'm struggling to cut weight to the point where the concept of the ship doesn't work if i cut something else out, im just playing straight max bulkheads. Tie that in with reinforced bulkheads and you'll have an instant zombie ship, and it's pretty much regardless of class.

Hehe. I think I worded the bulkheads aspect poorly. What I meant was that they are set at 'standard' at a minimum. Never less than that.

Can you tell us the citadel/barbette/shell type/shell count/propellent type you use?

Flashes aren't always from large magazines, they can be from any magazine, so a flash from a 4" gun might be mitigated by bulkheads. Watch where the shells land, and you can tell the difference.

Normally I use the best citadel available. Barbettes are the same, though if I'm scratching for weight I might drop it a step, but that's exceedingly rare. Shell type is heavy, count normal. Propellant is Ballistite/white/tnt. NEVER use lyddite or cordite. Bulkheads are a MINIMUM standard. Under no circumstances does that drop.

That applies for battleships and battlecruisers of any era. Of course, tech may limit certain things early on.

Cruisers have lower citadels and barbettes, but even then, the more the better.

I tend not to use the biggest guns, nor the most. I find under most circumstances, an 8 gun broadside does fine. And in most battleships, the main gun has a tech drop, usually 2-3 inches from the largest gun. I use the gun right before that drop. Sometimes even smaller. 16" is a rare beast in my navy. Unless you are facing a behemoth 8x 14" will get the job done.

And here's #3, actually got a shot. Hit at 5:30 w/ 16" "mid deck penitration". 1:11 later, without another hit, I see "Main Gun destroyed, Barbette destroyed, Fire, Rudder damaged, got Flash Fire, and Sinks due to structural damage. 1 hit....*BOOM*. 3 in one day. I should buy a lotto ticket. ;)

    Golden Twinkie #3.PNG

Read my OP here. That's a serious amount of flash fires. Funny thing - none of the 3 in that post was actually sunk by the flashes.

  16. I'm thinking that these happen too often. Just did a battle against an AI Chinese fleet. They had 4 battlecruisers with their main armament in a hexagonal layout ala the Nassau class. 3 ships had flash fires: 1 had one, 1 had 3, and the 3rd had 5 turrets cook off. Even accounting for the AI having thin belts (8" iirc), and minimal bulkheads, 5 out of 6 turrets is a bit much I think.

I've never had a flash fire on my designs, but the AI seems VERY prone to them.

I'm just not gonna comment on this one as I always go for using up every gram of displacement.

Yes, use every ton you have. But trying to put 12x 15" on 25k tons and then wondering why your ship is made of paper is a bit of a head scratcher. Having 4-5 different caliber batteries, with a battery of only 1-2 guns is a waste.
