If you pick the wrong nation when you first join..just delete your character and start again, it costs nothing

Yes but you're assuming new players think that way instead of having a horrible time and quitting the game. Is it a good thing to have to leave your nation regardless? I see it too often that players either quit or just switch to the strongest nation for the best advantage because the game is very tedious and tiring to play in the bad nations. This isn't necessarily because they were pvped or zerged but because of crafting/clan system/pve missions. This system does not support new players and that's a flaw at the base of the game.

  2. The war server is far from having a "little danger" and if you join the wrong nation, consider yourself screwed. Can changes be made to inform new players on the realistic choices they have when picking a server and nation? If I could have first joined the game I would have picked a different nation but you don't realize these things until it's too late and you have too much time dedicated and no logical reason to buy a DLC that doesn't support or help encourage the game to become better other than encouraging zerg. Instead how about "War server is perfect if you don't always want a hardcore time but it will eventually find you regardless of what you are doing."

Not a bad idea. How many of these can we realistically come up with? The goal is to fit as many unique bonuses to as few woods as possible. Something like fire/crew resistance doesn't need it's own wood. Oak I think deserves the cargo bonus, moreso than a heavier wood, even merging crew space with oak would immediately remove 1 redundant trim from the game while giving value back to overlooked oak wood that has no sort of bonus and has no niche.

Pretty hard to come up with things not already in the game that could be used to differentiate certain woods.

Wood types makes shipbuilding more flexible and affordable to people that can't afford to have all ships Teak/WO or LO/WO. Wood system also motivates to capture specific ports making particular wood type, if you would want to have access to higher quality wood. Also - it makes profit to someone who will manage to cap that X port and starts to export wood exclusive to a strict list of ports. Merging woods wouldn't have any sense now.

I agree with you because if you merge woods nothing good comes out of it other than having less woods to choose from. But there are too many woods that are not worth using compared to fir/teak/wo/lo. A suggestion is to give certain woods bonuses in cargo capacity/draught/etc. What else do you guys think could be done to unused woods that would make them worth using/balanced?

The goal of the wipe is to remove money/assets made on untuned mechanics, remove ships received because of bugs, remove the extra resources and other things received due to early access problems. The goal of the wipe is not to punish players.

Ship XP levels for example did not have any major exploits and it was not possible to gain ship XP by using bugs = thus ship XP level can be kept.
Reals - we indeed closed multiple loopholes during early access which generated extra money = thus reals can be wiped (at least above a certain threshold)

We see less and less compared to our initial announcements. We will keep you posted if something changes on this.

Do you guys have any plans on advertising or how will new players join when the game is released?

  6. It depends on if the developers advertise the game otherwise what's the point of wiping if the majority of the players aren't new? If 30-40% of the population are old players then a full wipe could be considered other than that there is no benefit. I personally do not like to grind ship slots or books even in this current patch and you're telling me I would have to restart to give a few new players some imaginary advantage over someone who has played for multiple years? New players will get wrecked no matter what you do because it takes more than books to get good.

  7. This is exactly what the game is missing because it feels like such an endless grind. If a proper quest-line was added then it should focus on gearing the player towards end-game ranks/books such as Art of Ship Handling, Gunnery Encyclopedia, and The Book Of Five Rings. Would it be better to have your average player looking forward to obtaining something if they successfully complete a skillful quest, or have a player endlessly grinding AI to no avail. All the developers have to do is have the community come together and create a bunch of quests and they could implement the best ones. Maybe have a boss system where you have to fight unobtainable ships that are incredibly skilled and then be rewarded with book knowledge/xp?

  8. Since some people prefer to do different things such as RvR/PvP/OW Ganking/Trading/ PvE I do not believe the community will ever progress towards finding a solution to balancing the game unless they add game mechanics uniquely defining each nation.  I am suggesting each nation provides a passive benefit such as % speed bonus/% HP/thickness/trading benefits/pve benefits/etc so you don't have players complaining about their nation only doing this or only doing that. This will make it so when a new player starts the game he will have an idea of what the nation does as a whole and what type of play style he would like to do. Not including hardcore nations, currently the only benefit to joining a nation is the amount of players and this results in an unbalanced game. You could even add disadvantages to nations such as decreased cargo hold/slower ships/etc.

There should be three nations that are well rounded for everything providing a slight bonus to everything, the majority of players will join these nations. Pirates should only be able to use up ships up to 4th rates or have boarding/speed benefits in battle. There could also be a nation that has larger reinforcement zone/PvE/trading benefits so players from PvE server might possibly start playing again because higher population looks a lot better. Hardcore nations could possibly gain bonuses to RvR/OW PvP but have decreased cargo hold/higher taxes when purchasing things. Not everything I suggested is set in stone, it's just a general idea on what you could do to change each nation. Please feel free to give ideas on which passive abilities each nation should get or not get. Please refrain from arguing or changing the topic to something irrelevant.
