  1. I'm not quite sure how relevant this would be to implement in the game. Although I see some uses for it like towing demasted SOLs as gunplatforms or dragging a prize or a friend away from battle.

    Anyway, I like your idea.

    yes, I thought of this because in a battle against Pirates, there was a large explosion that took out the masts of several surronding ships, including mine

    As you can see, I am the black and white Victory in the back, in this situation i had already used my sail repair and was stuck like that, going 1.1 knts, had someone been able to tow me, i would've potentially be able to rejoin the battle in some capacity, or even escape with some dignity, I can see this being used if/when the put land in port battles, as you can tow disabled ships and use them almost like block ships at the harbor entrance.

  2. Apologies, if this has been brought up before, but I've, yet to see the thread, and figured, why not bring it up again.

    Towing from what I've read, was quite common of sailing ships of this era, typically of disabled or captured line ships and frigates, but also of others.

    In game, this would allow disabled ships to remain relevant in the fight, (or at least get to it), but also to allow them to be towed to safety.

    how i think it would work;

    Ships would have to get close to each other to throw the line across, this would be done in a similar manner as boarding or assigning crew, both ships should be traveling less than 5 or so knts, and the ship being towed must accept the line, I.E. by pressing lets says B, but it could be any key, in turn the tower would have to offer it, and would have to build up prep to do it (it'd be a short timer, but should still need to be done I think so that you can't just slap a line across in no time at all) Once attached, both ships would have a shared escape timer, and only the tower can escape, I.E. the one being towed can't just disappear from battle, without his buddy towing him also leaving. additionally because whoever is towing, will have to tow, well another ship, speed will be greatly reduced, but as to how much I think would have to be calculated based, on weight, sail condition, sails of tow ship, sails (if any) of tow-e etc.

  3. Can I just say those 'Rouge & Noir' and 'Brest Harbour' paintschemes are true eyesores and border on being fantasy paints, which I thought many people had spoken against ? The former wouldn't look out of place in a POTC movie, while the latter looks like 'lipstick on a corpse'. Really not impressed by those.

    On the other hand, I wouldn't mind the 'Sicily' livery replacing the defaults for Constitution and Essex...

    Based on what Admin has said, the 'Brest Harbour' paint job is based off this painting depicted what appears to be a laid up French fleet of ships, preparing to be equipped

    That being said, I do agree on Rouge noir, in that its ugly as sin. but I really like the Swiss guard livery for the connie myself.

  4. We know that some folks sit in the battle screen to ambush other players or to avoid another combat.

    To limit the ability to ambush, add the time spent in the battle screen to the time before you can initiate or join a combat up to 10 minutes.  That way if someone spends 5 minutes in the battlescreen it will be 5 minutes plus the standard wait before they can join a combat.  Don't have the timer count for them being attacked.  Leave that the same, short timer.  That will increase the risk of using the battle screen and eliminate the aggressive abuse of it.

    though i suppose no Idea is without merit, I think this is a bit excessive, it'd be like sailing around with your hands tied, just doesn't make any sense gameplay, or realism wise. Personally I like the battle screen, it provides a venue to take a break, collect your thought and everything, i think the actual break of the BS is needed, people who say otherwise clearly have never needed to use it. Either way, my main frustration with the BS - if you can even call it that- is that you don'd know if they will come out or not (tbh best solution is probably just to not bother and patrol elsewhere on the island as opposed to sitting for 1.5 hrs on the swords in the first place). Texas' Idea is a excellent idea, realism wise, and could definitely work game play wise. Someone also suggested a message upon the enemy logging out in BS, or battle ending so ppl could wait an appropriate amount of time.

  5. Its been a wacky week thus far by Jamaica, Pirates, Spanish, Danes and swedes, oh my! If you're looking to get into an organized group to push the enemy back, or even take the fight to them, and see the world while you're at it, RELIC may just have a spot for you.     Otherwise you may end up like this, because this is what it can be like playing with the unorganized pubbies;

  6.

    Pirates advantages:

    - Are all high level players

    - On TS together

    - Well practiced as working as a team

    - spent the whole pre-battle and battle running, allowing kiting advantage AND better concentration of firepower.

    - Most/All had full gold upgrade setups specifically chosen for the type of pvp you do. e.g. most of your main ships could repair nearly 50% when low health

    - Brits were random collection of who were in the area at the time:

          - Many low ranks and poor ships

          - Not everyone with experience of working together as a group

          - Less than half actually on TS together, so couldn't communicate

          - Not in Specifically rigged gold PvP ships, just whatever was to hand at the time

    I'm not one to defend pirates or anything, but this list should be taken as a Lesson as opposed to some unfair thing the pirates did. It's our fault we're not well organized, to some extent our fault all our guys were not on Nation TS, and our fault we don't have ships set up for PvP. Live and Learn.

    Additionally we have the same ability to form a fleet on ts and go to their capital, to get the upgrades and perks, and to at learn to make good moves and maneuver our ships well. We may fight here and in games sometimes, but at least at the end of the fight they say gg, o7, gf etc. thats good enough for me.

    This battle was hard fought, well fought, and all in all im happy with the outcome. I got sunk, we sank some pirates and the British side held their own in battle until time ran out, more than some of our fleets have done.

  7. Can't wait :D! the only thing that really has me worried to any degree is the crafting changes, I don't want to lose all my beautiful BP ;-;

    Either way, i was exciting for this patch before this, now even more so. Should be interesting to test

  8. z4ys has another thread in suggestions which mentions that prize ship captures be split between all players in the 'gank' fleet, which at some point you'd have to measure out whether having 'too many players' in your 'gank' fleet is really going to be worth the reward.

    That is an example of a fresh idea which would limit the ganking WITHOUT going back to longer timers which was tried ultimately voted against. Let us at least evaluate new ideas rather than rehashing old ones.

    I have not seen this, but sounds like a great idea, something that would've be done historical no? splitting the prize money between everyone.

    but I was not arguing for 3+ min timers,  I am arguing for either no change in timers or just other changes. In fact sociable probably shouldn't make any kind of come back. the only reason why people liked it is because it decreased ganking somewhat because, you didn't know if someone def tagged you, that you were gonna get gang banged by ships or not. I might be misunderstanding you tone though that you were saying I was rehasing old ideas

  9. here is one thing I think many people forget about gankers, even the gankers themselves as far as I've seen forget to mention it. When you go out to gank, you primary purpose is to find PvP, not really to murder people 1v10. So when you go up to an enemy capital for Pvp and see a lone ship what are you gonna do? let him go, just because it wouldn't be fair? I wouldn't I'd gank the sh*t out of him because i Came there to get PvP regardless of the odds. That being said, gankers aren't suicidal, they wont fight against a fleet of connies in renos, thats dumb so they run. its what is done. If you don't like gankers, the best way to combat them is to form a patrol, and you may say "oh they don't catch anything, the pirates just log out in battle screen" and that is true, but guess what? at least those pirates are gone for an hour or so and your waters are just that little bit safer. Or my preference, go to the enemy capital and gank their newbies :D

    2 min timers I don't think hamper either side, but it does force as I think thomas shelby mentioned, "what you see is what you get" During the other timers, the ships  you were engaging were probably scouting for a fleet over the horizon that you can't see. the 2 min timers are fine IMO, they fixed a bunch of problems we had earlier, and the ganking you are mentioning has always been around,and there is ways to fight it

    or in shorter terms I have no issues with 2 min timers, (for some of the thoughts i have above) and don't think it should be increased, that being said, i think the ROE changes that admin, and hethwill brought up about changing/expanding the ROE circle. that i think is a meritful idea that should be tried in lieu of timers.

  10. The quote that comes to mind is "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"

    If you reduce the Spanish to one port and eliminate their players, where does it end? next the french? then the Danes? do it enough times and there will be no 'enemies' to play the game with anymore. then whats the point? No point in PvP when your enemy doesn't exist any more. that why the treaty was written (as I understood it). to avoid completely crushing the spainish so they could fight another day, and that in the end we'd have more fun because our enemy would fight longer. seems kind of odd, but this isn't a real war, we gain little to nothing by crushing our enemy into dust, especially when we derive enjoyment off our combat

  11. Stupid? what? I think this is a great idea, certainly a better environment to learn to play, all the ports are near each other the ships are small, and its a pretty easy sail to most of the nations main territory when they chose to 'leave the nest' as it were. At the very least worth a try, and it even has special ROE? it sounds pretty good to me, the only thing i fear is the port conquest, I presume (and hope) that a nation cannot completely lost their newbie zone. otherwise you may see one nation send vets up there to help their newbies wipe the others out.

  12. First off congrats on 1000 subs. I have watched virtually every episode of LTTK and always eagerly await the next!

    Sadly the resolution of my images was too big to have in post so some links will have to do.

    The first is a glorious thing indeed, a large dutch fleet got intercepted by the pirates on their way to inagua, I hopped in with my frigate, to assist.

    Next, the nation of neutral is more powerful than we thought

    And lastly this, which I call 'orgy of destruction'

  13. overall, I find the changes for this even good, the increased weight helps spread out the chests. Additionally i think it will 'spread out the event' for the people who wanted to delay th chest spawns, as this limits the number chests people can hold, so i think you'll see this event remain 'alive' for longer. Also I'm happy to see th posts from admin saying that these will be expanded upon/bps more accessible in the coming patches, regardless of my ability to participate thats good enough for me.e
