  1. technically, a tall ship of the line can have an edge in speed compared to smaller vessels with lower masts in situations where only a light breeze is blowing or ships are nearly becalmed.

E.g. a 3rd rates masts reach higher, their royals are able to catch the slightest wind movement in heights a smaller square rigger can't reach due to lower mast height.

I suppose this should be considered as well when balancing out ship speeds.

    • how will htis work out on PvE? Will it even be implemented there
    • Concern: big clans will benefit the most from this system, small clans or even solo players will get their arse's kicked due to the link between labour hours and estates. Clan leaders might actually decide what's happening on servers then. I predict: this will lead to a great amount of frustration.

do not give the fate of naval action in-game nations in the hand of a small amount of people. War and peace mechanics need to be set by algorithms balancing the game out and mantaining an equal chance for everyone.

  2. Thanks! i just checked into it and the PvP2 server has a character creation warning stating that if I Create a new character on this server it will reset all characters and all servers.

this is true. You will loose all BPs, gold, ships and assets.

Crafting XP and Rank XP are stored along your steam account and are not affected by deleting existing characters.

  3. excellent work, good Sir! This is a must-read for every beginner. From now on we might safely link the poor sailors lost in the sea of Cluelessness into your safe haven ;)

I'd still love to have a Dev clarify the penetration issue once and for all. The data is still rather based on empiric conclusions than hard facts.

(P.S. There's a minor data swap mishap with longs crew number's in the spreadsheet in chapter "recap and comparison")

  4. I'd second that proposition. In parts.

    1. give the biggest ships into AI hands, including Trincomalee again
    2. remove player's ability to cap ships larger than Frigates as in: can not use them after battle
    3. give players a reasonable XP+money boost for capping ships bigger than Frigs to compensate this

economy will profit from it. Ship losses will be more severe, crafting more useful and rewarding. There really shouldn't be masses of ships larger than Frigates everywhere.

Everything above a Frigate should be a treasured commodity.

  5. Some pretty interesting poins, OP.

Pirates in 3rd rates gave me headaches (pun intended) from day one.

Piracy should be all about hit&run in small, fast vessels, stuffed with guns and boarding parties.

Naval Action should not miss the chance to make piracy demanding and more historically accurate.

So: plunder, plunder, even more plunder. Not nation building and building pirate Navies as large as only the most sophisticated and rich European countries could afford to maintain.

  6. If you are complaining about AI difficulty.....

it's not about the difficulty it's about the way it is balanced.

It's about the cheese that is hidden bonuses.

It's about the way it doesn't present a challenge.

It behaves pretty clueless. giving the AI the ability to hold formations and act accordingly would increase it's effectiveness by an enormous amount. Imagine a line of battle with pickets rather than a huge clusterfuck where single ships constantly spiral around like kerbals with damaged thrusters.

  7. the cheating AI is getting on me nerves, yes.

I see that a player will always be better with current AI level, so something should be done to make them at least comparable and a challenge.

But hidden stat bonuses and secret workarounds for the AI just inflate frustration amongst players.

Esp. on the PvE server where everything circles around the AI ships.

I'd rather see more and more dangerous opponents in missions, bigger fleets and for the love of god teach the AI how to sail in a porper line with 3 3rd rates!

If we'd see 1st and 2nd rates AI ships, this would help as well to keep players busy and contempt. Just make sure that larger vessel can't be capped but are auto-sent to the admiralty for an XP buff, problem solved.

I should probably post this in the suggestion forums, I know :P

  8. ok, to summon this up: "I won't give back what I won, 'cause I want all-out PvP. Even if I only will get PvE 'cause eliminating two nations from game will drive their players off and expose my nation to the dooming enemies in the west, that will take me out of the game next. I don't give a f'***, because I don't care about what's next week."

    oooookay.  :P

In the end you'll have only PvE servers in NA- PvP ones will be completely dominated by one nation desparately searching for a PvP fight. Lol.

  9. I have been following the L'Hermione story since I accidentially stumbled upon her in 2014. Been watching their vids with my kids ever since :)

She really is an impressive, magnificently executed project and a real beauty to watch.

Looking forward to see her ingame- and mayhaps in real life some day!

If I were French I would be proud of this ambassador! As I'm not I'm struck with admiration nonetheless  :)

  10. they said from the beginning: 10-14 days, but it may take longer. Nothing has changed from that shedule...I've seen so many hype trains derailed into shitstorms because devs missed their deadline by 2 hours. In the end all the hate evaporates into love again when we've finally arrived on christmas eve and are allowed to play with our toys.

After the patch has been released- everyone now complaining will then spam "i love you devs" memes again  :P
