But there is a PVP twist. Raids can be invaded.
Any player of the allied nation who owns the port can join the instance and take a NPC bot ship helping them defend the port from the raid.

Does this mean the player joining the defense will captain an NPC ship already in the defense, not their own ship? i.e. they arrive in an all gold Victory, but defense fleet is a bunch of grey frigates, and when they join they now captain a grey frigate.

  2. The issue is that it appears that you delayed or removed a feature purely to spite an individual, or small group of individuals. Now, maybe you were just trolling him, maybe you wrote it in a heated moment and didn't really mean it. Maybe the feature was delayed anyway and you were just winding him up. I don't really care which it is...I'm looking for reassurance that it is not the case that you make decisions on development based on whether somebody pisses you off on the forum.

  3. As mentioned before by many US players, they will quit the game if they move the PvP2 server to Europe, as the lag spikes on a 400 ping is unplayable. So, no, the numbers would not go up.

There are zero "lag spikes".  I play on PVP1 from USA every day and have never experienced lag.  If this were a game that required millisecond reaction times (i.e. a 60 fps FPS like COD) then this might be a problem.  But this game is slow paced so the difference between a 50ms ping and a 100ms ping is not even able to be detected.

  4. Good Lord, not this again! If the 'merged' servers are in Europe, the numbers will NOT rise, because nearly every US/Asian/Aus/S American player will simply quit the game due to the massive lag spikes. If you ever read ANY of the posts about this, you would already know to not say such a thing. This is getting extremely OLD!

There are no lag spikes, so you are wrong on this.  I play PVP1 from USA with a low-grade internet connection and it is just fine.  Get informed before broadcasting generalities.

  5. If some of you on PvP2 are so hot to merge with PvP1, just transfer over.  Don't force other good people to have to quit the game due to bad ping rates just because you're not happy.

I have been playing PVP1 from USA with ~100 ping for over 6 months.  Ping rates aren't an issue in a game with slow speed action like Naval Action.  If this was a 60 fps FPS, sure, but not this game.  Thus, Ping rates should not be cited as a fear for combining servers.  Stop speaking in gross generalities that are based on a false narrative.

  6. If you bothered to read the rest of my statement, you would see why I stated what I did.. But you were to bothered by the amount of sarcasm in my first line that you took it personally and decided to google a wiki link.

..perhaps you failed to read the rest of my post, where I indicate that in fact I did read the rest of your post, and addressed points from your post that you used to support your comparison, and which I thought were incorrect.  The other portions of your post do not pertain to your straw man argument, they pertain to you listing your gaming experience and how you personally just didn't like combined servers.  I fail to see what evidence for your claim "comparing EVE to Naval Action is like comparing UFC to Hello Kitty" I am missing.

It seems I have touched a nerve, for that I am sorry.  But you can't set up straw man arguments, knock them down, then say 'see, I am right. You don't understand', and then get all pissy when someone calls you out.

  7. Eve doesn't have ports to capture, and their territory control mechanic is completely different.

You are completely wrong.  EVE has systems, which have outposts, which can be destroyed and then the system captured.  Replace the words "system" with "port", and "outpost" with "tower" in the above sentence and you have Naval action.

Regarding your comment stating "comparing Naval Action to EVE is like comparing Hello Kitty to UFC" -  I will just direct you to the following link so you know the proper name of your argument style for next time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

  8. Apples and oranges my friend.

Really? That's what your going with?

    NORTH AMERICAN
(of two people or things) irreconcilably or fundamentally different.

So you are telling me that EVE and Naval Action are irreconcilably and fundamentally different?  Let's see if that holds water: they are both MMORPGs (check), have a word-wide community (check), involve players upgrading ships and their armaments (check), involve navigating around a vast open world in said ship (check) while interacting with other players and NPCs in their ships (check) and taking over other player-run ports (check), and are mainly composed of factions of players within each player race/nationality (check)...and that's just off the top of my head.  Sounds nothing like "fundamentally different" to me.  In fact, sounds to me like pretty much the same game, but one is in space and one is in the ocean, and one is much further along in development and contains more advanced RPG and economic factors.  I am not citing this as a reason of what should be done, but I am citing these facts as a support to the idea that a world-wide server for this type of game can work quite well.

Backing up your opinion with just your 'feelings on the issue' about how you wouldn't like it and quit is being closed-mided, dismissive, and is not productive.

If they merge the server to a Euro server, 300+ Americans on the PvP2 server will simply quit the game because we cannot stand the lag issues, hence why we play on PvP2 and not on PvP1.

This is simply not true.  A relatively slow-paced game like this does not suffer from "lag issues" with 100 ping.  If this was a 60 fps? sure.  But it is not.  I play on PVP1 and live in the US and have never seen a single lag issue ever.

  10. LOL PVP1 has had over 900 players on it during EU primetime.

and that is why they should be merged; PVP1 had well over 1.6k during EU primetime 5 months ago, an ~50% drop is not good.  Combine the server, bring the numbers back up.  imho, Naval action is not fun when there are not lots of other players around, and if folks log onto either server and less than 1k people (or less than 200 for that matter) are playing, it will hasten their departure from the game.

  11. Hi Naval Action devs, I really like your game!  And I like the lack of a location indicator (i.e. "you are here") blip on the in-game map.  I find it really adds to realism.  However, i still find it can be quite hard to locate myself when not right next to a port.

One suggestion would be to add a topographic base to your map.  This would allow for players to identify their location relative to certain peaks, valleys, and allow for self-locating when you are quite a distance from the shor but in view of prominent topo features.  If you eventually added the spotting scope feature to the open world, the topo base would be all the more useful.  And you already have the other half of the orienteering component to this triangulation method (an in-game bearing compass).  I would argue that a topographic base would be better than a simple relief map, but a relief map of this large region may be easier to generate and more acessible to the broader community.  Hope this is useful!
