  1. I remember the days in Sid Miers pirates when the low swipe was the way to go. Here we have people complaining about the rock, paper, scissors approach that we have now so it's quite simple really.

1:Keep your speed above 3.5 knots.

2:Make sure you have boarding mods too! Even having just Blue Marines will make it harder for your opponent in boarding.

3:Make sure you can shoot sails effectively so the enemy can't get to you in the first place.

4:Know the signs these are usually he has more crew than is standard for the ship he is sailing so if you see a Connie with anything over 450 crew it most likely means he is speed/boarding rigged which probably means he is less manoverable than normal.

What I am saying is there are things you can do to stop these boarding monsters but it's down to you to be prepared to deal with it.

yes yes common sense, though its impossible now to stay above 3.5 knots with 5 ships firing chain at you. and no, having boarding mods is not how this game started off, that's the meta change, where you are forced to have boarding mods on to be competitive, to play that *****ing mini game. do you have something to actually contribute to this discussion or copy pasting a guide the jist of it. The bigger question im trying to bring up here is, do the devs ever imagine having naval action in their naval action, because its missing that, and being bypassed with boarding which takes little skill in comparison to the rest of the game at large.

  2. Are you talking about the combat in general or boarding itself (as an easy way to win with full boarded set up?)

what i'm talking about is when boarding was a minor component to overall combat, now, in pvp that minor component, has grown to be the entirety of the experience.

yes im talking about how combat in pvp has been bypassed for boarding. somebody fully boarded  in the game can now ram you, slow you and board/kill you in no time at all and with little skill, is that what the devs intended?

the actual naval combat had been replaced with this, mini game now. Thats not what I would imagine the devs had intended, but that is in fact whats happened. Before when it was small battles, people didn't coral you into a mess of ships and slow you by only ramming into you, along with the rest of the ppl fighting you, so you 'll go slow enough that that they can board you and kill you off. that's the new "meta" for pvp now. And thats what I'm trying to get across. There is no skill in hitting attack 1/2 sec before the round is over, yet Aiming, proper tacing, trimming, aiming, and planning have been effectively taken out of the experience by pressing one button with 4 mods. You don't have to know anything  about sailing or this game. or naval combat. 4 mods now makes you viable a pvp threat.

  3. its not always about pvp, in fact witrh the numbers faslling like a stone it has to do with the fact that nobody can do anything in the arena of conquest because almost ALL TIMERS are locked for their time of day.

    for example look at pvp2

9/10th of the port timers are set to 2 dif timezones, austrailian and US primetimes

    thats it

who would continue to play if they had to either get up at 4 am PST or the aus equiv.?

and look how the original system is turning out, splendid i see.

i would rather economics be the deciding factor rather than just logging in to look at the map and not be able to do a damned thing about it

  4. i remember playing this game when pvp didnt mean rock paper scissors. you know WHEN THE GAME WAS ABOUT NAVAL ACTION, nowadays ppl have gravitated to the easiest way to win..

with 4 mods (and thanks to you taking out ramming leaks) this game goes from a game of skill to a simple push button combat reminiscent of the days of playing lemonade on a commie 64.

    WHY?

this game was filled with promise, and good combat. it wasn't easy, and it wasn't meant to be.

so why are you ****ing this game up now?

It would be nice if boarding combat was something like a 5% chance to achieve, because think about all of you who crave your reality in the game, you try hooking in a ship and boarding it while still moving? realistic that it should happen every time right?

and make it so that it took time to retry like 1 min per try

make it a 15% chance if the target is stationary

make it 50% if both ships are stationary.

simply put the boarding mini game is becoming the game, is that what you, the devs, want?

all i know is that if somebody was trying to board my ship, i wouldnt just lower my sails and say "ok, lets rock paper scissors for it"

  5. i like how there is no option to vote on pirates doing exactly as they have been, wonder who isn't a pirate *cough OP cough*

SO no option for no change at all. if pirates cant hold ports then how can they craft ANY SHIP, let alone 3rds. What at MT? or are we not to have that one as well? I see the OP really wants to neuter a whole faction. thankfully this poll is not by the devs or anybody important and means nothing at all except the OP needs better mascara because it looks like its starting to run at this point

Also just to clarify. Would you prefer that the US just waltz on through and have some sort of enhanced easy mode? because if pirates can hold anything cant craft anything above a 3rd. Doesn't that pretty much sound like what you want?

Could you please rename this thread to "how to raise the sea level with carefully disguised crying"

  6. I didn't mention anything about me complaining about losing any ports, that is irrelevant to the conversation.

if you would care to scroll up, neither did I

  7. As we all know port battle timers are a pain.

Either you have to be awake at some godawful hour or you cant get the support for it during your primetime.

BUT, What if you could in a sense have your cake and eat it too.

My proposal is a simple one. Keep the port timers.

And in addition to them make it so you can buy the flag at anytime but at the expense of 5-10x the base cost of the flag. So it is possible to get that port you wanted, but at a cost. The one thing the devs arent looking at really is the mechanic of our own economics. Do some ppl have the ability to throw down upwards 6 mil for a port flag? sure. but will they for long if they keep doing that? not really or realistically.

So instead of the devs trying to make everybody happy by engineering a new system, why not keep the one we all know with the added ability to not be so strongly tied to it. Also know that if you set the timer to when you cant defend but still lose it, that the enemy paid one way or another to get it.

Plus we are talking about the chance to take a port not the foregone conclusion that they actually win it. buying the flag doesn't mean anything unless you win the battle.

    so my idea in example

say you wanted to sack "generic portname here" and the timer is set for 04-06. At those times the cost is 400k

now if you dont have the manpower at that time you can buy the flag still but at 5-10x the cost, (only balancing would come up with a real number) for the sake of simplicity we'll say its 10x. now that port flag can be bought at anytime but for 4 mil when not in the port's time slot.

Could the multiplier be static across all ports? sure

could the multiplier be on a sliding scale with a mechanic added like how many times its been sacked in say a 30 day period (again, spit balling) so that the multiplying cost would go up to limit the amount of times its been hit? sure.

Again let economics be the mechanic instead of anything else

    thoughts? ideas? please post

  8. Will you still get the redeemable on your account for a known blueprint you had on PVP3 even if you already have the blueprint on PVP1.

Reason being, if someone was going to use the opportunity to switch nations with their character on PVP1 and already had blueprints, will they need to delete BEFORE the merge happens or can they wait until after the dust settles on populations?

that is a good question. im just hoping everything goes well so they can announce the pvp2 merger

  9. How about a chat filter and the end of the pvp via chat reporting and hall monitors in the form of mods.

Seriously I cant be the only person fed up with this nonsense,

that way people who care about the internet beiong a safe place can have it, and people who dont care dont have to worry about getting banned when this was not a consequence that we either knew about or explicitly agreed to at the time of purchase

  10. chat limited, so what is it this time in game name cheatos

    also this....

    Its not a game problem.
The rules are very simple. DONT BE A DICK
if you are a dick you will get banned. I don't want such players in the game. If they are in the game - i will be very happy to lose them.

yeah you feel like quantifying what constitutes a dick? please i would love to see how thats going to work out when you specify this in an EULA without a ton of refund requests because we may be sailors, but god forbid if we ever talk like anything but ned flanders from the simpsons, in your game of conflict, greed, and murder.

So is it be a dick in chat? in the game?

its not a secret that im not nice in chat, but i do act in the best interests of my faction. think malcolm reynolds from firefly, he was a dick. even if he was doing the right thing. so is that bannable? do you think.....i dont know have you gone too far? Being that this was not a condition of signing up, im curious

  11. Sound like that is what you are doing to me. English is my first language.

You are testing the game and your reward for doing so is you get to keep your exp. You are lucky you get to keep that. Most MMO's would wipe you altogether and make you start over. Apparently you have played many Alpha's or Beta's.

except AO, MWO, DCUO, EVE. And my point much like the one that seems to be on the top of your head is this: By having a system like the one i described then the game wouldnt be a matter of continually starting over, that is driving people away, and not to the game. Its frightening how you miss that issue and my solution for it altogether. As it stands there is absolutely no reason to play the game if you are max lvl.

So, for you people that seem to be well....slow, I'll try again

    MECHANIC OUTLINE AND FUNCTION:

lets say there is going to be a server merge, call the servers to be merged A and B

    Target server is C

The players on both A and B have amassed all of their assets there. And the current mechanics allow for faction jumping at the time of server merge (which they do) so to preserve their assets, the current servers tally up all resources and cash (treated as a resource) and boats.

Tokens would be generated for each resource type :

an example of this would be: PLAYER X has coal in 4 ports totaling 7500, so that would generate a token for the resource which would be redeemable by the player when that player sets up on any faction at any spot on the new map on server C. Now in order to not abuse the system in any forseeable long term way Have the tokens be on a timer and not usable post say 2 weeks after the creation of server C. That way if there were to be seasons for the map where the map would be reset on a fairly consistent basis there couldn't be a carry over from the previous season.

Ships, because of the current restriction of ships capable of being in a port would use the same mechanic that was employed by the yacht and Niagara.

All of the "tokens" should be account specific so that way there is no chance of having a possible ownership exploit occur, this was handled pretty well with the redeemable ships before it just a matter of expanding that system's size and scope

As for the ports and such, I believe those should not come over to the new server so there is a few quality of life things you still would have to work for, or at least pay to have

Its one thing to keep your lvls and craft exp. But its quite another to be able to support either one of them. That is where the disconnect comes in with the progression of the game. because eventually we will all be max rank in both. Fighting for the map seems to be where the devs have decided where the actual game is to center around. And given that there will be no more NPC resources, the idea of starting from scratch with nothing but a cutter and zero money, no ability to buy resources from any port means we will be in those cutters alot longer then just jumping from PVP 2 to PVP1 where everybody is already established. Comparing the relative ease of the current situation to a full nuking of player assets across the board is not appealing to alot of players. And if that is the case then there is absolutely no reason at all to play the game if you have max rank in either crafting or lvl until the server merge/nuke/wipe happens.

My idea would keep people playing because everything they are working for would not be a futile gesture. This in turn keeps the tinfoil hat crowd from saying the game is dying and don't bother buying it. Because without a player base no MMO, in any stage of development can survive without players. Which if I were a dev, I would be trying to have not happen.

So my simple little forum trolls, its not just a matter of me wanting to keep the things i worked for, its a matter of keeping the population from saying "eff that im tired of starting over ....again" Which btw i already have, more than once

  12. no, there will be an asset wipe and a map wipe, this is an alpha, you bought it as an alpha, they have been very clear about what you will keep. Stop begging for more, you wont get it. If you didn't want to lose the work them perhaps you should not have invested the time in the game until it was released

not begging for more, if you think that's what im doing then English comprehension must not be your thing, try a different forum

  13. The thing that kills the game for me is the fact that i spent literally hundreds of hours last month collecting resources for when the NPC created resources finally went away completely, (something on the order of 280+ hours) This is some of the most boring, monotonous game play you can imagine trying to do. So why do it? the goal was to have  well over 10k of every resource so that way i wouldn't have to worry about the production shortfalls that are still going to come.Simply put, it was a short term loss over a long term gain. With the server merge happening Those of us who planned accordingly are in no small way F#<ked out of that time spent. Not only that but now there is absolutely no way to make up that volume of dwindling resources. I have amassed tens of thousands of resources in ports in preparation for the paradigm shift from NPC created resources to 100% player based ones

    BUT

I have a solution. The server has to know exactly what your total assets are every time you logt into the server ( obviously) so why not turn that data to a redeemable , one time use ( with unique ID) token that can be redeemed like a redeemable ship? this would  work for all assets currently held by the player on the different server. This both validates the time and effort people have made in the game and will help stop the people that are already heading for the door. Also this mechanic wouldn't have any problems with players who are moving to different factions on pvp1 such as myself who was USA on pvp2 but am now pirate on pvp1.

In addition to those issues being solved for, this same mechanic can be used in the future of the game and instead of having the map be stale and static, You could have seasons much like there was on POTBS. This overall mechanic can be used at the end of each season in preparation of the map being reset and going again. Yes your position is reset but you aren't left with the feeling that there is no progression for you individually, Which is starting to drive people away from this game and not toward it.

My plan would enable the devs to make changes and resets to the map as they need but also keeps the player base from feeling like, given the facts at the time that they didn't just blow a month of not leveling for nothing. especially in light of the fact that these same resources cannot ever be obtained in this manner again. There are enough aspects of the game that are making it an ever easier choice for them to leave, do the devs really want to add to the list?

  14. I as well as most of JUL will be hopping back and forth between servers.

JUL and SKY have merged on PVP1 to form FUBAR. So alot of changes. We dont hold out hope for the devs to really give us anything more than a token "here, sorry about your dead server". So we are establishing ourselves full time for a couple weeks then we'll prob come back and go all out tilt and blow the server up[ because frankly, it deserves a proper viking funeral. Hope everybody is there for WW....... .05.

  15. Thanks for this post OP. You are a perfect example of RP and delusions of grandeur  gone too far. Your "council" is only as powerful as OTHER people, not you, think it is. You seem view you as important while obviously other people dont have (and understandably) the same impression of your self perceived importance. If and when the JUL and PRICK coalition join your nation, expect the same "rogue" clan action. because no player in this game will dictate my actions, targets, or plans.

  16. this is yet another example of using this horrible idea as a means to solving a dispute. and another reason why the tribunal idea as a whole will fail.

more people will use this as a shield to goad people they dont like into saying something. or in this case use this as a means to settle a grudge over minor crap. a year from now this tribunal probably at best will be a farce with no teeth to it what so ever

  17. hi new to the game and very excited, I just put up a 100 slot public server and i will scale this upwards as needed. it is a spare server i have doing nothing that is already paid for for a year so finally it has a job.

depending on usage levels i can scale this to 400

if you need a room for a clan please feel free to pm me or a minion bot and ill get on it as  soon as i can

    server address is

    vs23.tserverhq.com:7230            no pw currently

if anybody would like to help admin that would be great as i have 2 other huge servers i currently tend to for other games and clans and i'd really like a chance to play test / review / and enjoy this game so any help in that regard is always appreciated.
